2014 WSU Head Coach?

I'm with 'wildcat2014' in preferring a coach that has had experience at the college level (plus at Weber St--in a positive way!). McBride, at WSU, smartly hired assistants he could depend on and wanted to give an opportunity to (namely McGiven & Clune). Anderson said when McGiven left from his staff, that good coaches like Kevin will get noticed and have other opportunities. Question I have is the timing of all this, as to their interest & availability (if either of the two did apply and got chosen). The Aggies have two more football games left and several weeks involved (with a bowl game). Does that effect their judgment on applying & how about the decision of AD Bovee regarding a new coach recruiting ASAP? Will be interesting to see how it goes. :twocents:

Weber State: Don't be surprised if Tulane offensive coordinator Eric Price emerges as a candidate in Weber State's search.

Looks like the Tulane coaching staff will be getting raises. I'm guessing Price will be making more at Tulane than what Weber could pay him.

I'm glad you shared this. Idaho coach Robb Akey, a Weber State alumnus, may be another candidate WSU considers, assuming he would be willing to leave the comforts of his job in Moscow for us.

Akey was fired last season.

Big Deal! Akey was fired at Idaho (and no wonder!)...a plus that he's a WSU alumnus? Think about the John L. experience & look at Akey's past endeavors (some of his moves aren't so nice!).

Personally, I just hope that Bovee makes a sensible decision on it (wish that 'oldrunner' 'GeorgeHayduke' & 'wildcat2014' (with their wise threads (to me), would volunteer to be on the selection committee, if there is one??).
:x

Eric Price, wow, I never even thought about him. He is a local boy. An Ogden High and Weber State graduate. His offensive teams at UTEP and Tulane have been highly successful; UTEP went from averaging 22ppg to something like 35ppg, and Tulane has had an offensive resurgence under his tutelage. If Weber could get him to come back to Ogden to be the HC, that would be a huge coup. Weber is assembling quite the list of potential coaches.

Two things that the new HC has got to be able to do, immediately are assemble an excellent coaching staff and be able to recruit. Yes it is important to be able to prove that you can put together a good and successful game plan, but a coach has to be able to do those two first things well, or else, a game plan will never come together.

:+1: Yes, & I nominate 'NOgdenCat' to be on the selection committee as well.

It's been dead quiet on who has officially applied, anyone have a list, or seen any candidates on campus?

This is what I saw on twitter yesterday...

Brandon Doman
Nick Howell
Mike McGiven
+
2 out of state candidates.

No Justin Ena or anyone with connections to the University of Utah and no current assistants like Pflu.

I spoke to someone this morning who recently played football for BYU who I commute with, he said that Doman was the most inspirational coach on the staff when he was there. But that Nick Howell would be a good choice as well.

Weber State’s search for a new football coach is "progressing" but hasn’t reached the stage where a hiring is imminent, according to athletic director Jerry Bovee.

"There is a lot of interest in our program," Bovee said. "As I talk to people, generally there is a feeling that this is a great job and a great place to work." ...

Although Bovee’s interest in them is unknown, former Idaho coach Robb Akey and bowl-bound Tulane offensive coordinator Eric Price have been mentioned on national websites as potential candidates for the Weber job.

Akey is a former Wildcat player and assistant coach under Price’s father, Mike.

Eric Price attended Ogden High and also played at Weber State.

John Wristen, a former assistant at Northwestern and UCLA who has built a successful program from scratch at Division II Colorado State-Pueblo, apparently is not a candidate.

so does this mean they aren't hiring pflugrad?

Who knows, it's all fan speculation with any of the names listed, Bovee is taking a page from the Jazz front office and keeping mum on any candidates.
