What was different about the 2015 team Vs the team of 2018.

1. The 2015 team was not coming off an 0-fer season
2. The 2015 team had a new coach fighting for his job.

I see where you're going with this and I like it, but well, you asked. :D

I think the both the O line and D Line was superior in 2015. Better coached (most of those guys had spent time with Coach Davis) Better players.

From my point of view, I believe it was drastically different talent. We had some really really good players that were just above and beyond most teams... Burton recruited guys that you would just say “how the hell do we have him?” Also seemed like almost every game the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams just clicked. If one of those were struggling, the other two would make huge plays to get us back in the game. And of course as mentioned above, coaches were fighting for their spots (as were we with the never ending rumors of the program being shut down). I want to say we will be 5-6?

Burton hung his hat on recruiting. Just couldn't coach.

@bigskyconf is right. Great recruiter but... Then by 2016 we started to graduate some good defensive players. In 2017 we had lost most on defense and special teams and were left with Barney recruits (I've heard every year for 3 years "we are a young team" which @teamholt shows is not the case). By 2018 the only stable group was the Oline (Mostly Burton recruits with one year under Coach Davis)

This year is all Barney recruits and coaches. Sad to say we will continue to struggle: the backfield probably will struggle, special teams will be a challenge, Oline is all replaced, hopefully defense will show some signs of strength. The result this year in my opinion is poor but at least 100% more optimistic than Alan. ;) I say we go 2-9. (maybe 3-8 if we get a bounce or two).

I want to see a HUNGRY QB ready to lead and WIN. I would also like to see an Aggressive QB meaning if the pass isn't there take off and run. If the online blocking schemes are good and Strong the RB'S can get loose. For the defense if the front four can get good push that will help big time with the younger players in coverage. I did get up to watch the coach and player's interviews, Artuz spoke about the egos in the locker room and we all know that's number one for creating division on a team. He said he was going to step up so that wouldn't be a problem for team this year.

@teamholt I appreciate your positive attitude and Hope. I would love to be pleasantly surprised this year...I think we all would. Interesting to hear about locker room egos. We struggle with leadership. If we don't start figuring that out "we are doomed to repeat recent history".

Ego's were probably the downfall of Burton and Co. He was notorious for not treating players equally. There was a star treatment mentality in the locker room. I'm not overly optimistic about this season. There just weren't enough flashes of improvement to get me excited after last season. Barnum is great in the living room I'm sure, but he needs to show a little creativity on the field with the starters in place. This jumping around from starting QB to QB is really a sign of a weak program.

I was a little concerned about the fact at the spring game the offence had trouble moving the ball. Yes I remain optimistic because after the rain everything grows.

:ugeek: If it rains too hard you get a flood and then it takes quite a bit for something to start growing again...

Most floodplains I've seen, the grass is green and lush. :D
