2016 Football Season

Back2Wsu and Wildcat, I admire and appreciate your glass half-full outlook. Big fan of what you add to this forum and I always look forward to your posts and opinions. Like you two, I'm pretty stoked by our current win streak and record. However, the Cats have to improve in certain areas to continue competing. Beating UC Davis and Sac were expected. I'm not upset over the wins, I'm concerned over how we won. Those games were too close. Yes, I feel the Cats win over PSU is a solid W and a good win but you can't say our passing game is healthy right now. 86 yards in 25 attempts is rather anemic! To continue competing Weber has to get better and that includes the passing game. It isn't fully Jadrians's fault. He doesn't have good receivers. They aren't bad just not good. Future wins depend on our offense being two-dimensional. We must get more out of the passing game.

Hey Wildcat your optimism is a breath of fresh air, you definitely don't read very much of that in these forums. Not a damn thing wrong with having a positive outlook.

I'm not sure I'd call it a glass half full outlook, more like a letting the cards play out kinda outlook. Im not letting 3 less than stellar outcomes dictate the way I look at future games.

Yes I'm happy about our 3 game streak, It good to see the Cats finishing games finally. But Im also not happy about the way we are winning these games. mistakes on offense really hurt us against Sac State (mistakes that kept the game from being a blowout). Our defense played great against UC Davis until the end (another game that could have been a blowout) And then you have Portland State who other than USU and maybe South Dakota has been our toughest game. It wasn't a pretty win but our defense (who had been crucified on this board leading up to the game) did a spectacular job of containing PSU's dangerous run game and limited the Vikings to 317 yards of total offense (PSU averaged 437.6 total YPG coming into the game) and only 10 points. Only # 8 Washington held them to fewer yards and points than us. And before you ask, no I'm not comparing Weber to Washington. Im not completely happy with the way we are winning games either, but these are the kinda games Weber would have lost in the past and I'd rather win close games than lose them because in the end a win is a win and a loss is a loss whether it is by 1 point or 40.

Im not saying the Cats are juggernauts because they aren't. We aren't playing to our full potential but we are seeing glimpses of it. Heck if the offense that played vs Davis and South Dak and the defense that played against PSU and Sac both show up in the same game. Watch out.

Again there is plenty of room for improvement. But I don't believe this team and it's coaches deserve a lot of the hate that is being directed at them on this forum especially from a few certain posters (Some called for Coach Hill to be fired after the loss to SUU at home last year). I agree it's their right to do so, as it is my right to believe that some of them are being a bunch of Bengaltards. There is not one game left on our schedule that we cannot win, it's true we have hit the meat of our schedule (starting with PSU) and the games are gonna be tougher. But lets let the team show us what they can do.

On a finishing note
A. Yes the passing game is weak, thankfully it has come through for us when we have needed it and our running game and offensive line are picking up the slack.
B. Clark's pass still looks like a duck but he has done a better job at getting most of his passes where they need to be, but they could still use some work. He also needs to be better at his timing. Weber had two touchdown passes that he threw late or way overhead. Clark has done a lot for Weber on the ground too, gotta give him credit where it is due.
C. Despite being injured and young our defense is one of the fastest and most physical defenses in the sky and will only improve as the season progresses.
D. We really need a field goal kicker, yes I realize Hintze is only a freshman but I really don't want our field goals to be our freethrows of football and cost us a game. (cough cough USD cough cough)
E. This team is exactly where most if not all of the posters on this forum thought they would be 5 games in. Sooooooooo why all the hate?

Ok I'm done.

GO WILDCATS

Yeah I'm with Wildcat. Honestly on both this forum and the basketball forum there is waaaaay too much negativity. Unless the Wildcats win in a huge blowout, posters on here nitpick everything to death until you think that the Wildcats are the worst team in the conference.

I'm all for the team improving, and yes I also thought the team would be performing better than what we've seen this season, but a win is a win and I think a lot of you guys seem to forget that

FYI... there 'is' another field goal kicker. I have it on good authority that he beats #47 in practice regularly. I noticed he got in for one PAT against Sac, and 47 had a tantrum on the sideline, planting himself on the bench and not supporting his teammates, yet he was put back in. 3/8 is ridiculous. The other kicker, 60, needs a chance. They have already burned his redshirt with the one PAT. I saw his bio, and he's good. We are going to lose a good kicker if a change isn't made. Many of these last games could come down to a field goal. 38% isn't cutting it.

If you think there is to much negativity maybe you should go onto the SEC or Big 10 football fan base blogs, It makes the WSU bigskyfans blog look and sound like a cupcake party for a 6 year waiting for the pony ride to show up.

Forgive me if I don't jump up-and-down for moral victories of individual wins or even pulling out a winning season in the last game or two. It's been a long lifetime of following Wildcat Football with very few seasons to truly be excited for. It's pretty discouraging when you realize there's a fair chance you'll be dead before the next BSC or playoff run. That might be an exaggeration, but not by much.

What's worse is years of unexciting football that have added up. Weber has often struggled with attendance and excitement for the program but can you really blame the fans? Put an entertaining team on the field to watch and despite the win/loss column, I'll be there enjoying good football. Too often it seems there is sub-par talent or coaching or both. Once again, the team this year is just not getting it done entertainment-wise.

Count me with those who are high on Coach Hill and were high on the outlook for this season. There's a pretty good chance Weber goes 6-5; 5-3 this season, after going 6-5; 5-3, 2-10; 2-6, and 2-10; 1-7. That's not regressing as far as the record goes but in my opinion the quality of play and certainly the excitement did. Again, if Weber has to win in Poky in addition to some big-time luck in Cedar (that was a difficult 2-1/2 quarters to watch) to salvage a winning season, I'm just not running around saying what a great season it was.

Coach Hill needs some help on the sidelines and some breaks with regards to injury, but what's needed even more is fundamentally sound play and play call despite the overall level of talent.

This. We are killing ourselves with poor decisions and playcalling.

The team needs to play with more discipline and at least be fundamentally sound. The lack of outside contain for about 90% of defensive plays is mostly bad coaching.

Special teams has also been a disaster in almost all facets except punting. Yay for having a good punter.

I like coach Hill, but he has some less than stellar coaches right now.

Really questioning some of the recruiting decisions/efforts, especially in the recruiting of QB's and a place kicker. When you play a team like NAU, who's BACKUP QB looks 10x's better than anything else we have, you see how badly the QB position has been recruited. I'm really worried about how bad our QB play could be over the next two seasons. We've got no one, and history shows that we won't be recruiting anyone that's capable. And, did they put ANY effort at all into finding a real D1 place kicker?
