2016 Recruits

I can't believe I need to start this thread this early, but...

Weber has made an offer to 2016 SG Dashawn McDowell (6'4", 165, 2 Stars).

To put this in perspective, he'll never share the court at the Dee with anyone that competed on it last season. Anybody know anything about this kid?

Crazy we are already writing about 2016 recruits. Looks like he has a lot of upside!!

6-9 PF Wyatt Lowell, Gilbert AZ.
He has 6 offers, as of right now, along with Weber, UNCO, Colgate, Rice, UC Davis, and Lehigh.

6-6 SF Autin Mueller Highlands Ranch. This kid reminds me a lot of Nic Sparrow.

I can see the comparison to Nic. However, this kid is a little bigger than Nic. He reminds me more of a slightly more athletic Josh Fuller. Either way, he is a darn good player. He will be a three star before the summer is over. I would say the same thing about the kid from Arizona.

Our list will begin to grow for a while now. Looks to me like we are looking for two things here. We are looking to fill the gap when Bolomboy graduates, and we are still looking for that dynamic wing player/big guard. We have some really good ones on our list now, and I suspect that we will see more added over the next couple of months.

Shocking that none of those three are from Texas.

Before the summer is over, you can bet that there will be players from Texas, and a few other places, on that list. There will also be guys we are recruiting who don't show on the list at all. Some will be on that list when we aren't recruiting them at all. The VC list isn't the end all, just like the star rating system isn't gospel either. Both are good indicators, but there is more to the story.

Buckle up, a lot happens in the summer. :twocents:

Andrew Jones 6-3 PG Irving Texas (Irving MacArthur School)

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Andrew-Jones-165841?colleges=show#college_choices" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Currently has six offers: Weber State, Texas A&M, Texas Arlington, Richmond, Tulsa, Western Kentucky.

Here is your Texas kid Olds.

So...and of course none of us are experts on recruiting and the overall needs of our program, but what, in your opinion, is the biggest need for the program.

We have a feel for what Coach is looking for with the recruits who have received offers. Coach is in the market for either a PG or a big wing type player like Davion Berry. Kinda makes sense about the big wing, that is a hot commodity in college basketball right now. I don't understand the PG position, but that does make some sense. Who knows if Cannon or Johns will work out. I hope that both end up being special, but...one never knows.

In my opinion, which, lets face it, isn't really worth much, I think a big wing would be great, but I think we are in a bigger need of a Center. A guy who is 6-9/10 and weighing in around 250 or 260.

At this point, we are stocked at all positions and will be losing a 6'9'', athletic, power forward to graduation. Although, we wouldn't anticipate any transfers next year, it seems to happen every year anyway. Replacing possible transfers is the big unknown.

To me, if I go on the assumption that there will be no transfers next season, I would say that you take the most talented, highest impact player that you can get. The bigger that player is, the better. If we do turn out to have transfers, then you need to be ready to move quick to pick up the players you need to fill those holes. It hurts a program to be scrambling to pick up JCs or other transfers at the last minute. Sure, you might luck out on some of them, but it is certainly a long shot. :coffee:

After a few more cups, I would pose this question a little bit differently.

With just one opening after this year, it might be a better question to ask what they should not do??

With just one grant to give, the worst thing they can do is to bring on a question mark, a project, or settle for less than stellar. To me, you might as well leave that grant open for an unforeseen, mid year opportunity than fill it with less than a sure bet. :twocents: :twocents:

I agree...go for the best player possible. If that player is a big or a wing, whatever, just get the player that will make the biggest impact for the program. And you are absolutely right Olds...the recruiting season is barely just getting going. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Personally, I'd like to see another center, but that is me.

There is a unique opportunity this Fall for Rahe. He could go after local talent that will be automatic mission kids and sign them. We will have the space in two years. Last year's class was stock full of DI talent and Weber got two really great Utah kids in Riley Court and Cody John. Not to mention the rest of the state. I'm somewhat beside myself thinking about our instate and area recruiting. Oh well...I feel the staff did a great job recruiting and look forward to see what happens this Summer and Fall.

This kid is not on our list yet, but I'm hoping that we go after him.

R. J. Nembhard of Keller, Texas. He is a 6'3'' guard who can do everything we need him to do. I don't know if he is directly related to our former player, Ruben Nembhard, but it is sure worth looking into. He looks like he could play point or wing, and he may still be growing. He is really young. :thumb: :thumb:

PS. One of his AAU coaches is named Ruben. Hmmm. Class of 2017. We've got a couple of years to work on this.

Shocked nothing has been said...but 6-5 195lb PG Sayeed Pridgett from Oakland has an open offer from the Cats. He is that big guard that the Cats have been looking for. He is playing AAU ball for the Oakland Rebels.

He holds offers from Weber, Montana, St. Mary's (he isn't Australian so who knows why Bennett is recruiting him) and San Fran. USU is on the list, but is doesn't look like it is open.

Sayeed is a very talented kid. I would be happy with him in purple. However, I like all of the guys on our list so far.

After watching our guys play and develop over the next month or so, our coaches will have a clearer picture of where they need to go with this recruiting class. If a few of the incoming players hit the ground running, it may shape how we recruit over the rest of the summer. There are still a lot of unknowns. :coffee:

We've chatted about this a bit, and I totally agree with you, after the next few weeks the coaches most definitely will have a better idea of what they will need. Right now, we can kinda tell that they are looking for that, as you have said, big guard/wing type; a Davion Berry type player. And, they are also looking for another big. Either a big SF or stretch 4 type guy.

So far, with who has been offered, it is looking more and more likely that the coaches want to sign 2 this fall. I don't know how that'll be possible with the current talent, and available scholarship/s that will become available at the end of the season. Yes, it is always good to keep your options open and hedge your bets, but if all of the players buy in, develop, and do what is required of them the coaches will, really, only have 1 scholarship. However, this makes things somewhat interesting...Braxton seems like the only legitimate 5, maybe the coaches are planning on developing Dallas into a 5 also? Hill and Nzekwesi would be the other 4s?
