2016 Recruits

Just my opinion, but Nzekwesi seems to be better equipped to be a 5 than Dallas, at least at this point in their development. Who develops and in what ways is what makes the situation so interesting. There surely will be some surprises along the way. I think that can be said about our recruiting as well.

Sayeed Pridgett is a better point guard than anyone on Weber's team right now... All of you who raved about our freshman point, about his defense and passing ability, should get super excited about Sayeed. He makes Junior look like the high schooler he is. It would be awesome to have a 6'5" inch guy playing point for us...

Here's the current list, as best as I can tell:

Guards:

Sayeed Pridgett (3-Star; Oakland, CA; other offers from St Mary's, San Fran, Montana, Utah St)

* Originally class of 2015, will attend prep school and re-classify as class of 2016

Committed elsewhere:
G Cameron Satterwhite - Colorado
G Tyrell Henderson - Portland St

Heard that 4 Star recruit Frank Jackson visited the campus last week for a few days. He stopped by to play pickup with a recent graduate of the institution. Not saying anything, but there is a slight, outside, chance that he sees Weber as his backup. He was originally committed to BYU. Good thing he changed his mind on that option. VC has UCLA, Maryland, and Utah are offers, but heard the Duke is interested as well.

Read through his twitter...NCAA should see a couple of interesting posts from BYU Boosters on it. Rules don't apply to the Y.

Didn't BYU offer him as a 9th grader? That is crazy, what kid can even start to think about that decision before their high school career gets going. I am not holding my breath, but it is always nice to have a high profile alum that will come in and play pickup games with high level local players. If by some miracle he came to Weber, this would be biggest recruiting coupe we have ever pulled off. Taking down Utah, UCLA, Maryland and BYU.

These summertime visits are always informal and player driven. They are not official recruiting visits. That comes after school has started. It's going to be a little quiet for the next month or two. There is usually a lot more activity in August and September. By October, 80% of it is over for the year; all but the actual signing. Of course, there are always some who go unsigned and the JCs that sign in the spring.

Unless somebody is just not working out or is a behavior problem, I feel that we will only sign one player this fall. I also feel that it doesn't really matter much what position they play, as long as they are the best player we can get. Like every team in the US, we will be looking for an impact player. The kind of player that moves us forward. We don't need a project. We can get project players any time we want them. Impact players are harder to come by. :coffee:

Sounds like he will be going on a mission right out of HS.

Some of these bigger guards would have a chance to play at the point in D1 ball and others might project as wing players. The fact that they have the ball handling skills to play the point for their HS or AAU teams is a plus at any position they may play in D1 ball. Some of these kids will grow a little between ages 17 and 21. Who knows how tall he might be coming off his mission. He could end up as a power forward for all we know. I think we are just looking for skilled basketball players. :coffee:

Good for Austin.

I just don't see how anyone can get excited about playing in Laramie, Wyoming. It really blows there. I mean, there is no real use for hair driers. The school must be good, because the community is just a bunch of drunken cowboys and truckers. There are a lot nicer places in Wyoming.

Uhg... Laramie! :tothehand:

The coaches will be hitting the road over the next few weeks, for an open recruiting period. I would expect that some information will filter through the system. There may now be some new updates to our recruiting list. We may get a clearer picture of what our coaches feel we need to move the program forward.

I would love to see some early commitments. :coffee:

Alpha Diallo, 3-Star SF from Denver, has been offered.

Roman Davis committed to Cal.

Very late commitment, but great for Davis. Cal already has another guy almost exactly like him committed for next year. We might want to wait and see what happens in the future.

Major offer here. 6-5 wing...just what coach wants. I'm a bit shocked we haven't seen more bigs, but I'm sure we will. Weber did offer a ESPN 3 PF:

Tyler Bey 6-6 PF: http://verbalcommits.com/players/tyler-bey" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

SUU and NAU from the Sky have also offered. As has SMU, NMSU, and Auburn. Not bad company to be in. He might be one of coaches biggest pursuits.

UPDATE: Spencer Johnson (American Fork) receiving "high" interest from Montana, Utah State, Utah Valley, and Idaho State. Weber can beat out 3 of the 4. Be tough to get him if USU offers. I hope we can keep him. He would be a really awesome player once he got back from his mission.

On a side note...a couple of major recruits in the Utah region.

Christian Popoola
Frank Jackson

Summer recruiting is heating up. Here is the latest, via Verbal Commits.

Enjoy!

On a side note, Emmanuel didn't make it through the NCAA clearing house for admittance to an American school of higher education, this year. I hope he makes it in the future, and I hope that he ends up at WSU. I think that the young man has great potential. I would hate to see that potential not realized due to political wrangling over immigration laws. No matter what happens, I'm with you Emmanuel Nzekwesi. Good luck with all that you do. :thumb: :thumb:

Weber State and Iona have offered Sheridan JC Pablo Rivas

6-6 kid who had a strong Freshman year. In high school he averaged over 10 rpg. He seems like a bit undersized to play the 4, but looks like he could end up being a decent 3. He shoots the 3 okay and seems like he can play with his back toward the basket. Might not be a bad option.

On another note, and I'm not totally sure about this, but is Nzekwesi still on our radar? I know, due to immigration issues, he didn't qualify this year, and has decided to take the prep school route. To me, this seems like the best route for him to take. He still gets to play. He will mature a bit more and gets some more academics under his belt. Regardless, for the Cats at least, it doesn't seems like a good deal. To me, this means he gets to reopen his recruiting. My questions for the Coach would be, do you still have a lock on Nzekwesi, so is he going to be joining the Cats for sure next year? Or, does this mean that he is for sure gone? I'm a bit confused about this whole situation. Out of all the kids we signed last Novemeber, I thought Nzekwesi was the biggest star that was grabbed by the Cats.

Would love to see this kid at the Dee.
