2016 Recruits

Weber State and Iona have offered Sheridan JC Pablo Rivas

6-6 kid who had a strong Freshman year. In high school he averaged over 10 rpg. He seems like a bit undersized to play the 4, but looks like he could end up being a decent 3. He shoots the 3 okay and seems like he can play with his back toward the basket. Might not be a bad option.

On another note, and I'm not totally sure about this, but is Nzekwesi still on our radar? I know, due to immigration issues, he didn't qualify this year, and has decided to take the prep school route. To me, this seems like the best route for him to take. He still gets to play. He will mature a bit more and gets some more academics under his belt. Regardless, for the Cats at least, it doesn't seems like a good deal. To me, this means he gets to reopen his recruiting. My questions for the Coach would be, do you still have a lock on Nzekwesi, so is he going to be joining the Cats for sure next year? Or, does this mean that he is for sure gone? I'm a bit confused about this whole situation. Out of all the kids we signed last Novemeber, I thought Nzekwesi was the biggest star that was grabbed by the Cats.

I'm not positive on this but I believe Nzedwesi would be available to whoever wants to recruit him out of prep school....I can't see how Weber could "lock" him up for another year without counting him against their scholarship allotment....the plus for you is that he already knows Weber is interested and he obviously liked Weber or he wouldn't of signed LOI the first time...but as far as him being unrecruitable for other schools, I don't think that is the way it works...

F Tim Fuller, Gilbert, AZ offered.

From what I can tell, I could be wrong about this, but he looks like an automatic mission kid, much like Spencer Johnson could be. I like the idea of signing two or three with a couple being mission kids, since we all know that, technically, there is only 1 scholie available next year. In two years, there will be a lot of open scholarships and having a couple of guys who are 20 instead of 18 available can only be a bonus for the Cats. We have the guys in place to wait two years, especially if the Cats pick up a JUCO big this Fall instead of a high school kid.

Stats:

Spencer Johnson's numbers from high school:

Amazing nobody else, other than SUU, is going after this kid.

This is a 2017 recruit, but I really like this kid. Nigel Shadd, 6'8'', 210 PF/SF/C

We are getting into some high quality big kids, this year and next. We will be replacing Bolomboy and Hill. :coffee:

Trying to keep up with recruiting right now is tough, but agreed Old's. Randy and Co. have really got a great pulse going on right now.

Another 2017 guy, lefty PG Maxwell Evans:

This is total conjecture on my part, but I feel that Weber's top recruit right now is either Wyatt Lowell, Alpha Diallo, Andrew Jones, or Sayeed Pridgett. Dashawn McDowell would be huge, but I think his star is too big. He has some serious offers. I'm thinking that Randy would like to sign both Spencer Johnson and Tim Fuller because they are both automatic mission kids and a lot of schools are backing off making offers to either player because of that. I see these guys are huge pluses, because when they get back they will be 2 years older and still have red shirts available. Granted, they might not play till they are 21, but a 21 year old freshman is pretty sweet based off of their physical potential and knowing that they are probably fully done growing and can, in that situation, put on muscle quicker.

2016 PG Justin Bassey 6-4 175 Denver CO. Wyo, AF, and Weber

2016 CG Justinian Jessup 6-5 180 Longmont CO. Boise, Colorado, UNCO, Weber

Justin Bassey committed to Harvard.

I'm not so sure on some of the others you mention.

I've said it before, and not been right, but it feels like there may already be some commitments out there for the 2016 class. Just not announced. We may be telling kids to hold off until they have an official visit in September or October.

We are spending a lot of time on the 2017 class, and that's a good thing. :thumb: :thumb:

If you look at his tweets it sounds like he's a real good kid (not).....I don't think he has the character that you need in Utah.....IMHO....I really wonder how these kids nowadays don't think what they write on twitter won't be read and judged by EVERYONE....

I looked at his tweets and didn't see what you saw. He had some RTs that were the regular teenage stuff. His own comments seemed OK to me. Anyway, I'm sure the coaches vet all that stuff out. You may be seeing the environment that a kid grows up in and assuming that he is reflective of that. I would give the kid some wiggle room until proven that he is not deserving. For now, he has to survive in the environment he is in. If he chooses a new environment in the future, it will be due to his looking for a change.

I'm not going to pass judgment on him based on a few RTs on twitter. It's hard enough being a teenager, let alone being under the magnifying glass that is D1 basketball recruiting. :coffee:

To be honest, I have no idea what twitter account you guys were looking at. I couldn't find any for him. I don't think he has one. It isn't the one provided by Verbal Commits.

As for DeJon, he seems like a good find. He had a handful of double-doubles last year and has done an adequate job this summer in AAU. He is pretty close to Sayeed Pridgett, who I think we are pretty high on. I'm not so sure that we really have a chance at Pridgett, but if it means bringing in DeJon to get him, I wouldn't put that past coach.

I'm started to get a feeling that coach might sign more than what I originally thought. I wouldn't doubt, if he can get two kids that are automatic mission kids, that he would sign them both. Next, we all know we need a big, but if he gets the guard he wants he might still sign a big, because he doesn't know if Kiko will work out. Who knows. I'm just hoping that he isn't giving up on Nzekwesi. Wow...lots of back stories going on in the recruiting class.

I'm kinda curious to see who the coaches bring in. In the past there have been a couple of guys visi, who were under the radar. Jeremiah Jefferson, Joel Bolomboy, and Kyle Tresnak were all guys who were brought in that most of us knew nothing about. I'm sure coach has a wildcard up his sleeve and we might get another surprise visit. As for visits...who knows what is going to happen. It is definitely going to be interesting.
