The Spokane Spokesman-Review doesn't think we have much of a chance in the Big Sky this season: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/jun/16/an-early-look-at-how-the-2017-big-sky-conference-f/

For that matter, Eastern doesn't look so great, losing its OC this week. All new coaches and temporary coaches.

Gotta love the line "this is the choice of a realist, not a homer", then you put your team at #1 and your rival at #11, behind Sac State. You need great QB play to succeed in the conference, and Gubrud showed to be a great QB, but with a whole new staff and new receivers, it may be a tough climb.

I have been doing the conference power rankings for both AGS and CS.com since 2004 under my moniker JALMOND. I do think our youth will hurt us this year, but I like our chances next year. We need to settle quickly on a replacement for Kuresa and get some strong performances from the youngsters on both sides of the ball to surprise this year.

What I am working on right now (I don't post it on the two sites until right before the season begins)...
1. UND---the most complete team in the conference right now.
2. NAU---Both Cookus and Butler are back and healthy.
3. Cal Poly---Prothroe is back healthy and the Mustangs have a bunch returning.
4. EWU---Gubrud is back, but questions all around the team.
5. MSU---Young team last year, but came on strong at the end.
6. WSU---A lot of returnees, but need a QB. However, they may have one.
7. Montana---Griz need help at QB. Defense will keep them alive early.
8. SUU---Excellent QB back, need some help on both sides.
9. UNC---Strong returnees on offense, lacking a bit on defense.
10. PSU---Really young compared to others in the conference.
11. UCD---Dynamic coach coming in, but need help.
12. Sac St---Strong returnees, but QB transferred out.
13. ISU---Just a mess. Good thing is Kramer left.

Subject to change, of course. We still have fall practice left.

I predict the Vikings are building the program according to a 5-year plan, last year being Year-1. What will Year-2 bring? Better to ask Coach Barnum et al.

"9) Northern Colorado – The Rams are coming off their first back-to-back winning seasons in their D-1 history, but they return just five starters on defense."

Rams, Bears, Whatever.
