Harding is an awesome scorer! The issue isn’t the players...... it’s what you’re dreaming of in the offense isn’t the offense that Rahe currently has in place. Also let’s be honest, Harding wasn’t a proficient passer. He’s a shooter and as a PG you have to be able to pass. He looked like he was having a seizure when he needed to make a pass to the post. That’s what keeping him out of the NBA. LOL that you think his assist numbers were low because players were missing shots. He wasn’t making the pass! Rahe doesn’t want a dominant big. He wants combo guards that shoot 3’s. Braxton/Hill we’re huge in the pick and roll and were beast on dump offs, they both shot over 50% from the field, but I remember many nights when they would have 2-3 shots a game because they weren’t being utilized. If Rahe really cared about developing bigs, Duft wouldn’t be his bigs coach. :wtf: The issue is that Rahe is recruiting talent that’s different than in the past. He wants bigs that can shoot the 3! That’s his right as head coach. So we will live and die by the three........ hopefully Rahe’s offensive scheme will get traction, but it was a hot mess last year. Even in all the mercenaries he’s bringing into the program now, there’s no dominant big. We go significant minutes in games without the post even touching the ball. That’s the new style of play at Weber........

Brick3’s - Try reading what I said; I didn’t say Coach Rahe was running the offense “I was dreaming of”! I said they should be running it through the bigs and the best guard on the team, which would have been Harding. I don’t know what you are watching, but Braxton didn’t get the ball because he was horrible! He digressed significantly over the last year. I was optimistic after his Junior year and thought he would be great, but it didn’t happen.
Also allow me to correct you on a few things! You can’t be a proficient passer if you have no one who can finish after the pass is made!! It takes 2 to complete an assist! And furthermore, I never once watched Harding convulse while trying to pass the ball! Seriously?? And nothing is keeping him out of the NBA at this point in time other than the Coronavirus! Nor did I say he is an automatic NBA player, but rather that he has a pronounced NBA skill in his ability to get to the rim and finish with contact!
Also, Braxton was average at dump offs! A beast on dump offs averages over 60% because every shot is a dunk or layup! He might have been a bit better if they ran an offense that made those passes. Don’t blame that on Harding! The Big has to be taught how to set a hard screen and then keep his defender off the guard who is coming around the screen. The coaching staff doesn’t teach these guys how to set a hard screen and roll. So you tell me how the guard is supposed to make the dump off?
I am not one to agree with Rahe, but your statement that he now only recruits bigs to shoot threes. That’s odd, because Braxton wasn’t a 3 point shooter, Zdor rarely shot 3’s, and Tim Fuller isn’t a 3 point shooter either. Neither was Dallas Jordan! Yes it’s true he doesn’t use the bigs in the offense and that goes back to what I just said! They don’t teach there bigs how to set a solid pick!
As far as combo guards? You are correct! That is what we are recruiting and in love with and if you read any of my other posts I don’t like it either. The reason I don’t think it’s a good way to go is because it seems they are all the identical player on different levels. 6’2” or 3. No length and horrible shooters from the outside. It doesn’t matter if you have 5 guys like that who can drive to the hole if no one can hit an outside shot or use there length to get hands in the passing lanes on defense.
Needless to say, we will have to agree to disagree! I’ve coached for 20 years and have played my entire life. If you are a Jerrick Harding in the situation he was in this last year, you do whatever you have to do to win! And that consisted of scoring every night, because there was no one else to pick up the slack. And the fact is he didn’t seize when he had to make a pass! No one on that team could make an outside shot besides Kozak the last month of the season! Find someone else to bag on Brick!

I agree with a lot of what has been said.

A. Cody John is a black hole. He never changed in the five years he was at Weber. He had a decent career and worked hard, but at the end, Weber was a much better team before he came and he's left it destitute. Good SG, terrible PG. That Cannon, Doc, Nero, were run off in favor of John getting mins...Ugh! I still contend that the kid has something on Randy.

B. Jerrick Harding is an amazing scoring talent. One of the absolute best to ever play on the floor at the Dee. However, he was NEVER a PG and NEVER should have been played as a PG. If he could have learned how to pass, he would be a 2nd round pick this June. BUT, because of his inability to pass or make his teammates better (i.e. lead) he will play a career overseas. YES, it will be much like his college career. He will score a lot of points. Play ho-hum defense (if he really wanted to, the kid could be a lock down defender) and make great money. He will have an amazing career playing in Europe. He will also get chances to play in the NBA but until he learns how to pass consistently (he did have a couple of games with some nice assist numbers) see the floor clearer and be a floor QB, the chances will be limited to summer games and the G-league. He had plenty of talent around him as a sophomore and junior.

C. Randy puts too much faith in Duft. The guy was the architect of last years offense and he has been the bigs coach since Smiley left. What are the two biggest complaints we, as Wildcat fans have? Offense and how our bigs are not developing. Rebounding was a major issue and we had two all league bigs two years ago. Braxton and Chapman seemed to regress as players. I watched them both play in Europe this past winter and was wonder what happened. GOOD coaching goes a looooonnnnggg way. Randy is hurting himself by being loyal. Duft is the weakest link.

2020-21: In my opinion and you guys can take that for what its worth, which isn't much, but I feel Randy has definitely improved the talent this spring. Weber needs another big to sign and I think we are ready to go. If not, or if the 8th guy has to sit a year, we will be fine. Bassett, Fuller, Kozak, and Kupsas are players we can put our trust in. However, it all comes down to chemistry and development and that is coaching. If nobody is coaching and developing these kids, then whats the purpose? The biggest change needed to happen and didn't.

Hey Talhad- I agree that it is all going to come down to coaching! I would love to see this team come in and make it happen, but unfortunately I don’t have faith in the system, the coaches, and I really don’t have faith in the recruiting. I see a very poor season on the horizon! I think everyone is going to find out that Harding was the only thing keeping this ship from sinking! I might eat crow, but I would put my money on the table to back up my claims.
I’m a huge fan, but I’m not a blind walking the blind kinda guy.
I really do hope you are right though Tal. I would gladly eat a crow pie next year if this team comes out and gets it done!

Webergrad- Totally with you on that! I was hoping Cody John could be that guy, as well, but he never developed. He was the same one dimensional player his senior year that he was when he was younger. When he got the ball his court vision was limited. I would have loved to have seen Harding with a couple knock down shooters. Man that would have been fun to watch!
Think if they had a legit big who could finish in the pick and roll. Who do you guard? Harding either gets all the way to the rim, hits a mid range jumper or the big gets dunks and layups and every other player finds the open spots and knock down threes. I personally feel that the whole motion, weave offense we are running isn’t a good offense, nor has it been working. We have no back cuts, our screens are weak and only serve as a little deterrent to the defense.
Either the coaching staff decides exactly what they are going to run and then recruits the right player for that system or we will continue to struggle. Defensively, we don’t get enough deflections, which in turns makes it difficult to get out and run the break. It really hurts us not having the length to get our hands in the passing lanes.
IMHO, what we saw out of Cody was everything he had. I believe he reached his full potential or very near it. What we needed was for at least one of our big men to become a dominant player. I feel like they improved during the year, but had too far to go, to be that guy. We were so close, in so many games, just a few more rebounds, a few more blocks, or a few more layups made, could have gone a long ways. I feel that this recruiting class is a move in the right direction. How well it all comes together remains to be seen.

I disagree in regards to John. Even in his freshmen season it was evident that there was ball movement issues when he was on the floor. IMO he was like an anchor keeping the team from progressing offensively. It never got better and last season when he was on the floor, an assist was rare sight. Last season we had Braxton and Chapman that were very capable and promising recruits that just never reached the full potential. It's funny that you are the one making this point. Whenever someone states that we do horrible job developing and coaching big men, you argue with them. Have you changed your tune Olds?
You didn't really read what I said. I didn't say that Cody was a complete, well rounded player. What I said was that he had reached his potential and wasn't going to get any better. He worked as hard as anyone out there and the coaches worked with him constantly. He actually played better as a senior than I thought he would. He really did improve, but he was never going to be the scorer that Harding was or the PG that we all wanted. What you saw out of him was his best in that senior year.

A quarter horse is a fine animal for riding, cutting, barrel racing, and such. A mule is a great animal for riding in rocky, mountain terrain and carrying heavy loads. You can train the crap out of either of them and still not ride them to victory in the Kentucky Derby. In the end, the mule is still the mule and the quarter horse the quarter horse.

I am honestly surprised and the quality of talent and the number of players from D1 schools that have signed. And so quickly. BUT not a single person has said Randy couldnt recruit. He is a fantastic recruiter. Its what happens after they get here is when the concerns start.

I am going to agree with you as I dont have much faith in the system and them coming together as a team. Who is going to lead them? Its a broken systerm with possibly 8 new guys running around. I feel bad for these guys who are going to waste a precious year. I really hope they prove me wrong.

I know you understand Basketball! It was Chapman’s and Braxton’s Last year that Rahe put in the new offense. Yes, They showed huge promise their Jr season and Rahe that summer installed the new offense. Funny how well Chapman and Braxton are playing well in Europe, but had tough Senior seasons at Weber. Rahe put in an offense to allow Harding to score........ the bigs weren’t part of that offense. Number of shots went down but shooting percentage was still high! Players don’t desire to play D1 ball to just set ball screens and rebound. Bigs want to eat too! That’s why bigs are turning their back on Weber! I wonder if those two would’ve transferred if they knew about the new offense BEFORE their Senior practices started? I’m surprised Fuller hasn’t transferred. Basketball is about having a system that you can maximize the potential of the players on the floor. The problem with Rahe’s program is when he changed the system, the players didn’t buy into it because it didn't fit the talent he had on the floor. The players felt like they were recruited for one system and then everything changed. BTW....... interesting that you didn’t include Kozak in the Bigs shooting 3s......

I agree Harding is a phenomenal scorer and he didn’t have the most help THIS year but the NBA scouts last summer told him he had to improve is assists if he wanted a chance in the NBA. He had more than enough help to win the years before though and his selfish play is what cost them. Someone on here said that Jeremy Senglin had Ryan Richardson but Richardson played with Harding for a year and barely saw the ball in the same ways he saw playing with Senglin. That same year we got booted in the tourney by 30 points and the main concern I heard from players was that Harding didn’t pass the ball. Braxton and Chapman the next year suffered the same fate. Braxton has played terrific overseas it wasn’t his lack of skill or ability that lead to his decline his last season it was the lack of being used in the offense and lack of guards throwing it in. This very reason is why Zdor chose to transfer. Not because he was “hurt” and had a bad year or because there are outside influences like Brett Hein seems to think  but because he knew the system didn’t utilize big men.

I read this and agree that Braxton and Chapman didn’t have the senior seasons we wished they would have and I’m not 100% sure what to attribute that to. I just wanted to fact check you when you said that Braxton wasn’t a beast on dump downs because he didn’t shoot over 60%... I looked it up on the team’s website and he shot 61%. I don’t think he was ever great on the block, maybe average at best, but I bet all he’s doing in Europe is scoring off dump downs. To say he was average at best on the block and still shot 61% from the floor must mean he does something right on dump downs because he wasn’t shooting many other shots.

I think it is safe to say it, we all agree...after this past season it’s going to be tough watching Wildcat Basketball. I think we hope for a successful season, at least I do (Randy isn’t going anywhere for four seasons) but what is the likelihood of that happening?

Looking at next years starting 5 and rotation I see success but a lot of that depends on Xs and Os. What scheme will be developed. Will Randy change the defense ever? Will we see the cards again (I think we might)? Player development and team chemistry are huge. Lots of questions. Thankfully, the team cancer is gone though.
PG: Brown
SG: Hunter
SF: Porter/Mocsan
PF: Kozak
C: Bassett

Mocsan/Porter, Davis, Jawara, Fuller, Kupsas? 10 man rotation?! Ha!! I believe it should happen but doesn’t. And there are still 2 more planning on signing. Another wing who will probably red shirt and another Big

Let's see what this team looks like next year, right now. Does WSU have any freshman signees for next year yet?

Seniors -
Balint Mocsan (transfer)
Kham Davis
Michal Kozak
Dontay Bassett (transfer)
Isaiah Brown (transfer)

Juniors -
Zahir Porter (transfer)

Sophomores -
KJ Cunningham
Tim Fuller
Mitch Brizee (2019 walk-on)
Darweshi Hunter
Donatas Kupsas (redshirt)

Freshmen -

Offers -
Dillon Jones (?)

Lots of offers but all have committed or signed elsewhere. D1 programs are allotted 13 scholarships. If Mitch and Sano remain walk-ons then WSU has 2 more. Am I missing anyone?

Brett hein has said that the 7th scholarship has been filled but has yet to announce who it is. Judah Jordan is expected to announce his transfer at the end of this month so there will be an 8th scholarship open and from what I’ve heard Sano Gasana will not be asked back as a walk on.

I don't want to speculate on who might start or who might red shirt, but it is possible that we could have 5 brand new starters and a deeper rotation. It's been mentioned a few times here, but almost everything will hinge on how they come together as a team and how a totally new offense gets implemented, and it will. We certainly were not the only ones to see inefficiencies. Defensively, we may now have the length and depth at guard to effectively press every once in a while. We may also have the length needed to play a bit more zone. Length is a big help in those things and getting more deflections. I'm fairly certain that our rebounding will improve. It certainly can't get much worse. Our returning players will have another summer to get better, damn it virus, and hopefully will take full advantage of it. I'm expecting a better team. How much better, remains to be seen.

I’m just going to address a few itemS and then call it good! Agree or not, I’m not going to continue to refute every little claim from BigWaldo and Brick3’s.
1st - Zack Braxton. If you read the other posts BigWaldo, I never looked at Braxtons numbers his senior year. A previous post listed his 50+ shooting percentage and I stated that isn’t dominant inside. Furthermore we can split hairs all you want, but Braxton wasn’t good his senior year. Rahe actually benched him a lot more down the stretch. I happen to think Zack is a nice kid and with the right coaching could be a good player. But busting out his success over seas in Austria Bundesliga is ridiculous! I’m glad he is playing better, but it’s Austria! They don’t play basketball there, they ski! He would make more money as a garbage truck driver than playing in the Austrian League.Furthermore, if he wasn’t successful because of Jerrick Harding give me some proof. Randy Rahe? Ask him! No one was stopping Braxton from getting offensive rebounds and put backs! As a matter of fact they went into him quite a bit at the beginning of the year, but he didn’t perform. I don’t understand how hard it is for people to get it? If you have a Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, on your team, do you throw it down low to Bill Cartwright to make a move or do you leave it in the hands of the man. You tell me how many times someone other than Harding made the clutch shots? I watched over and over last year, he would defer to other guys, stand in the corner while the ran the weave to no avail and then dropped it into Harding’s hands expecting him to make a play, and still managed to shoot 48% from the field. Which he usually did, may I add!
2nd - Ryan Richardson played with both Senglin and Harding! And as a matter of fact Richardson scored 13 points a game playing with Harding and 8 points a game playing with Senglin. So explain that to me? Did Harding pass less enabling Richardson to hit more 3’s and score 5 points more per game? Nope!!!! Harding helped Richardson and would have helped and passed even more his senior year if he had a couple Richardson and even a Braxton and Chapman to pass too and still would have scored 20 plus a night.
If your going to use the same logic you are using to supposedly expose Harding’s weaknesses, then please do the same with every other player on the team!!! If you do, then there isn’t much to say is there?
Mark this down in your little notebook! Harding might not make the NBA, but I guarantee he will be playing for one of the top leagues in Europe! Not the Austrian League or Suriname!
I’m done with this convo! Give me something worth debating!

One more thing! Any big can have 60 percent shooting the ball 4 times a game, because generally they are getting a wide open layup or dunk! The Point of basketball is to score more points than the other team, I’m the master of the obvious! So you go with the highest percentage option. Harding was that option!! If we had other players, he would have got them the ball. Ie... Richardson! Richardson was a spot up shooter, he didn’t create his own shots. He got open looks because of his teammates, Harding being one of them!
When is the last time you watched an NBA game? It’s not like the good old days with John Stockton slinging it to everyone for an assist. It’s all drive and kick and rotate until you find the open guy. And in order to do that, you have to have a guy who can break down the defense. So even if the NBA scouts said what you are implying they said about Harding’s passing, when it comes down to it, they aren’t looking at it as much as you think. His verifiable skill of breaking guys off the dribble is much more what they are looking for. Was Donovan Mitchell a good passer when he came into the NBA, nope!!! Is he a much better passer now? Yep!!! You can’t teach what Harding has and you can’t teach what Mitchell has, but you can teach a guy to find the open spot, and I don’t doubt Harding can do the same. Whether it’s the NBA or Europe!

BigT; I gave up trying to reason with some of these guys a long time ago. They see what they want to see. Some of them haven't even seen a game in the past few years and yet they still have strong opinions. Try to keep your sanity. :wall:

Wasn’t saying Harding was a bad player and I never said he couldn’t play in a high European league I just don’t think he helped the team as much as you think he did and I think other people would agree. Richardson averaged more points his senior year because he had to create more for himself rewatch the games you’ll see that to be true, he wasn’t getting the same spot up looks with Harding. The ignorance you have to imply that the Austrian league isn’t good because it is full of skiing Austrians shows just how little you know about professional basketball and comparing him to Kobe and Jordan? Come on man  The kid is the all time leading scorer for a reason I will give him that but the chemistry has been off in the program since he started playing significant minutes and i remember watching the games he didn’t play (other than this season) where ball movement was far better. The final result is no championships for the kid and I’m certain it’s not all his fault. Also how many clutch game winning shots did Harding make in his career? I think maybe 1 maybe 2. Let’s agree to disagree but if I were asked to choose between Senglin and Harding I would take Senglin 100% in a heartbeat.

I hear yeah olds! There is only so many facts that can be presented! It’s easy to question anything and everything when you don’t have facts and don’t understand the game other than being a casual observer.
I truly only want the wildcats to kick butt! Otherwise I wouldn’t say anything. I would love nothing more than to see this years team come out, play as a team, move the ball, hit open shots, hustle on defense and put it all out there on the floor, but I can’t sit back and pretend or agree with anyone who has the audacity to call out Harding, after all the hard work, good attitude, and proving the most he could to help an inferior team win! And I’ve never heard any of his teammates talk bad about him.

Yet another clueless post by BigWaldo!! I watch every game, home or away! I go to the big sky tourney every year and I watch every game while I’m there including all the other schools! Don’t even go there buddy! I know more about Basketball in my big toe that you have in your entire body!
The Austrian league is not good!!! They aren’t even in the top 20 best leagues in Europe! Where are you getting your info from!
Furthermore I never was making an argument of who was a better player between Harding and Senglin! I was pointing out the facts! 8 points with Senglin and 13 points with Harding!! And you need some Lasik if you think Ryan Richardson all of sudden starting creating his own shots off the dribble! No he didn’t! Maybe you should go back at review the film!
My comparison wasn’t that Harding is Michael Jordan! It’s called a parallel! A comparison between similar things! They both play basketball, and they are both the best player on their team.
Tell me you are joking about him making two clutch plays in his career? Maybe you are the one who needs to watch the game and watch the film. Do I need to pull up all the times he scored in the final two minutes? I think I won’t for the sake of your embarrassment! Your ridiculous! He made 2 clutch shots and 2 free throw against Sac State at home this year to get us the win. We’re you at that game??? Oh you forgot???

While you have been watching the games I have actually played for the Wildcats  played in a lot of games with a lot of good players while you sat in the stands and observed us. I’m not sure why I argue with fans that have only observed and never played. I guess I like to provide inside info but informant people don’t seem to care about it. He hit 2 free throws  go back and look at every gaming winning shot Harding has made compared to the number of gaming winning shots Senglin has made. Seriously go back and look at all the times Harding has a chance to win a game and didn’t :coffee:

Yep! You have proved you are clueless! Funny! What you say and write in your posts would lead anyone with any knowledge of basketball to laugh when you say you know because you actually played for Weber. What players did you play with? Or should I say what players did you get lit up by?
I also played against players from Weber and many other college athletes., when I wasn’t watching the games! I could name many you might know, but I will save everyone from that. As a matter of fact I haven’t been able to play in many years, because my orthopedic surgeon told me I’m done, due to injuries? Surgery! Physical therapy! Too much basketball for too long. Now I’m paying for it! I don’t give a flying turd about who you claim you played with or who you played for. Your posts make no sense and have no statistical backing whatsoever! The fact that you claim you are a player makes me question you even more. Here is what I’m gonna do for you, because you don’t have a clue! I’m going to go ahead and and go back to every game Harding played in, and I’m going to actually come up with an exact number of shots made in the final 2 minutes, then I will post the numbers here! Then what your going to do, is realize how blind you are!
Actually I will make you a deal. If I’m right and Harding made more than 2 clutch shots in last years season(I’m not going to even take previous years) then you shut your pie hole and remove yourself from this site! If I’m wrong, I will do the same!
Give me some facts pal!!!!!!
