2020 RECRUITING

I’ll also predict that we sign 3 star SDE DeShawn Lynch from Folsom High who has 8 FBS offers.

You seem to have some inside knowledge, so I'll throw this out there. Heard any rumors on offering QB Justin Lamson from Oak Ridge? Only a JR, but should get plenty of attention next year. I know Taylor and crew have been to some of his games. Local talent equals more local interest in the program.
I think I heard the same as you, about watching him play. I don’t put too much stock in 2021 recruits, because too much could happen between now and then, he might get some offers from bigger schools, but you still want to build those relationships just in case.

I know you have been a following this team for a long time and seen a lot of stuff, were on the same team. I have known Troy since middle school, so I followed him closely at Folsom, Eastern Washington, then Utah, hence the passion I have about Sac State. The narrative is already starting to change, it doesn’t happen overnight, but is happening more quickly than I imagined.

There’s no guarantees with recruits, they can change their mind quickly, just hope we get that qb signed tomorrow.

My team played against Troy/Cordova in HS. Ran into him out at Woodcreek HS his last season coaching at Folsom while he was scouting during a off week. Helluva nice guy. I’ve followed him closely as well, which is why I lobbied for him to get the job at Sac State years before it happened. Clearly, I believe in him. Still, I recognize the challenges recruiting against FBS programs. But, like you, I’ve been promoting his success coaching QB’s the past 12 years at both the HS and collegiate level. His track record speaks for itself. All of the QB’s he worked with at Folsom earned D1 scholarships. Many others he also mentored. Then, of course, he’s already coached 2 Big Sky Conference Offensive players of the year.

Hopefully it will draw some really good QB prospects to the program.

You didn’t ask me, but I’ll still offer up that I saw Troy and staff out at a couple Oak Ridge games last season. They’re definitely interested and following his social media. But no formal offer has been confirmed. The only D1 offer Justin has acknowledged was made by fellow Big Sky foe Idaho. It was supposedly his very first offer.

Eventually I fully expect Justin to be recruited as heavily as Ian Book was coming out of OR several years ago. He’s bigger and flashes more potential IMO.

Looks like coaches on Twitter are expecting a big haul tomorrow, historic. We shall see - most important signing day probably ever for SAC... let’s see how real the Taylor Effect is!

Yeah, the coaches have been building it up for sure.

But I’m not so sure they’ve got all that many scholarships left to hand out after the December signing day. In fact, a couple of the coaches have stated via social media to be careful not to wait too long to commit because the offers may disappear.

IIRC, the program had 16 graduating seniors. Not sure how many others have moved on.

Little frustrating though how we lose good local talent like JT Reed from Valley Christian San Jose to MSU, I keep hearing how we need more offensive linemen too. This shouldn’t happen.

It's official! 3 Star quarterback Yaro Duvalkov from WA is a Hornet! Turning down grey-shirt offers from the likes of Utah State/Boise State/UNLV!!!!!

This would be a surprise and possibly a very good get. I’m a bit torn because Lynch wasn’t as dominant a player as I expected him to be this past season. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I hope a player with 8 FBS offers ends up in SAC. Especially with a staff that really knows him. But I’m just not sure he’s as good as I once thought he’d be. But this staff might get that potential out of him.

I would have to agree with you. I watched a couple games and was not impressed. Maybe that's not the right way to word it. They hype didn't match the production. I hope it was just lack of motivation, boredom or something like thatand now he'll he abkw to live up to the hype with his old coaches.

It’s official!!! Former 4 star and now 3 star national recruit is a Hornet!!!

You did nail both. I’m very happy to be wrong. Consider it a reverse jinx!

I’m really most surprised about Lynch, who held an offer from Arizona State, Oregon and USC among others. I still stand by my concern over his underwhelming play last season, but since this staff knows him very, very well — I’m hopeful they’ll get the most out of him. It could be a major coup.

Again, glad to be wrong about Duvalko. Perhaps it’s the first legit sign beyond last season’s playoff birth that things are indeed changing for the better.

Now if they really want to shock me, announce some major improvements to the facilities!

Well done Hornets! Looks like a tremendous recruiting class!

Yeah, I don’t mean to be down or negative on the kid, but I saw Folsom play numerous times last season and he didn’t impress and overwhelm to the degree I had expected. I was very impressed his JR season and had high expectations for him this past fall. But he was largely negated in games I saw against Oak Ridge and De La Salle, among others.

I hope his old coaching staff is able to develop his talent because he has a lot of it. I wonder if they’ll play him solely on defense or if he’ll get some run at TE, because I found him to be quite impressive there, he’s huge and can really run.

Lynch and Xavier Williams could be a scary combo.

Regarding DeShawn Lynch, it looks like it got my answer from JoeD’s latest article:

“I’m relieved, mostly, and proud,” Lynch said. “It got to the point where it was a grind. I like Sac State because it’s a good school, I know the coaches and they gave me the option to play both sides of the ball. I’m very happy. I saw Sac State play (in 2019) and knew they’d go crazy with success with the coaches.”

Smart move. I believe he’ll be a huge weapon (literally) at TE.

Side note: I know I’ve brought this up before. But does anyone know what happened to Daniel Fortune? It seems like he’s nowhere to be found as far as our official roster and such. In addition, he removed a lot of Sac State related things on his Twitter? He was supposed to be next in line to replace Dotson.

I looked earlier today and he’s back on the roster, I guess they just redshirted him?

Looks like we may be getting a kicker, Joshua Baron. Baron recently attended the 2019 Western Winter Showcase. He is an excellent field goal kicker with D1 scholarship level talent. He has improved his leg strength and charted well on both field goals and kickoffs at the event. Baron had a strong showing at the 2019 Western Spring Showcase Camp. He was the winner of the kickoff competition and hit some consistent field goals throughout the day. His leg strength was good and increasing the lift on the ball and controlling his hips through contact will help him continue to climb the rankings.

Not seeing either of these guys listed as official signees yet. Sometimes these NLI come in late. Or perhaps a change of heart occurred? Or there are no more scholarships left?

You hear anything Sac_hornets ?
