2022 preseason thread

Haven't learned much about the QB competition. The video yesterday makes it sound like the evaluation could go deep into the fall camp. Lest we forget:

Chism will help make our QB look good this upcoming season.

First scrimmage report: https://goeags.com/news/2022/4/23/f...leading-up-to-next-saturdays-spring-game.aspx

There was a total of four touchdowns in today's play, plus two field goals for 34 points. Five quarterbacks saw action, led by Ryan Kelley who had two touchdowns and completed five of his seven pass attempts for 81 yards. Gunner Talkington was 6-of-10 for 72 yards plus a touchdown.

Kelley struck first on the second possession of the game, finding Josh Johnson for a 16-yard touchdown. The Eagles would find the endzone again on the ensuing possession, this time on a 12-yard strike from Gunner Talkington to Nolan Ulm.

After looking down the roster was SUPER happy to see this.. they had said he might be an OL and his skillset screams DL. Sanity prevails. :thumb:

Saw at least one name that wasn't familiar... walk-on? Critical DL Collin Fujimoto-Young 6'4" 300+ All I found was some old 2020 tape of him playing OT. We all wish we could move this well.

The running backs were the only studs today. Nothing looked great or as “crisp” as previous years.

Honestly not sure what to be excited about, but I think across the board we have good starters, not sure about our depth. Hopefully some good chemistry works itself out this summer.

I did like Tuna a lot, almost 5 yards when he touched the ball, and he had a few catches. Micah Smith and the other RB really tore it up as well.

Brandon Montoya and Josh Johnson had some quality touches. Trying to figure out QB situation but Simon Burkett throws a nice ball., they all showed some sparks at times. Left early so didn't see much of Kelly and see by the stats he went 2 for 5. Had to edit perhaps it wasn't josh johnson just thought they were calling his name but whoever I'm talking about played good...lol. Kickers did well in tough wet weather which was assuring. WR ULM stepped up.

On the scrimmage says Ely Doyle and Jordan Prunty led the White team with eight tackles each, and Prunty led all players with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Weird I can't find any info on senior Jordon Prunty on the roster list .Looks like Tyson prunty may have been his brother https://goeags.com/sports/football/roster/tysen-prunty/6743 is he perhaps a transfer from somewhere? https://goeags.com/sports/football/roster/jordan-prunty/7950

Sounds like the OL for the Red team created some space and that the Eag's have 3-5 studs to run the ball. I'm OK with that in the face of a QB change. Also glad that at least two WR studs committed (green and williams) and will be in camp this fall along with Adimora to add even more RB depth. Sounds like the defensive backfield will be well stocked with playmakers as well.

Obviously, would like to see some significant highlights like NAU, Texas, Georgia and other schools put out for Spring games to get a look at some of the names we aren't as familiar with playing, aka Prunty. In my case, would like to see what Chapin is doing with the OL blocking; especially on runs. Prunty is fast. The last play on this video is amazing. Could be a special teams stud.

Thanks for that Lucky. Funny how watching most of it in person then on tape when i can rerun certain plays like two different games. Many players looked real good on tape...making plays off/def. Doyle is sharp and our new ghost player Jorda Prunty (if thats his real name) really looked good. Glad I'm not having to sieve through choosing 1,2,3,4 qb's. Not sure if they want to get a young one in now or bridge a real promising one with another year or two experience. Semms the stable of rb's and wr's are solid. I do wonder how our depth is...always a challenge. The bar is always set high!

Always difficult to see what's happening in person. Some DL guys played for both teams. Mitchell Johnson looked unblockable but didn't seek to annihilate the QB. Hope he stays healthy. QB play was less stellar except for Burkett, who looked poised, accurate and on time. There is a lot more evaluation to go. OL's looked goodish. More hat on hat blocking, lots of pulling, better up field blocking, better back side blocking on some plays, some mistakes but overall it was a good base to build on. Liked the depth at DB, lots of talent there. RB too. Ulm had a good game, his size and strength showed. Hard to evaluate the playcalling, only saw one boneheaded call on the goal line when guard and tackle pulled to lead block and the DL was in the backfield before the ball was handed off. I don't know what if any of the OC's or Best but I don't want to see asinine crap like that in short down and distance situations ever again. Guess I'll have to learn to close my eyes on those plays.

Thought Eags had good depth in the defensive backfield but if there are openings in general and they can fill them with special teams bodies/mentalities I'm all for it.
