2025 Offseason Portal Tracker

I wonder how many of our 2024 seniors with JUCO experience that will return, basically there is a new court ruling that Vandy QB won which makes JUCO football time not count for 4 yr D1 eligibility. That would be a lot of them, Moleni, Grover, number 0, etc)
Refer to my post #137 on this thread… that was not a class action suit. Ruling is a temporary injunction specifically to Pavia and his case is not a final ruling yet either.

Wow. Are we tapping into that NIL money already?
I know you’re joking, but no.

I honestly think our biggest “get” is keeping KR and getting Meek out of the portal.

We get transfers from SDSU, Utah, Cal, Colorado etc every year. A high % don’t work out for whatever reason, so I’m not planning a parade based on the commits so far.

With that said - if Rodney Hammond comes in ready to play, he has Big Sky Offensive POY potential.

How much is this Cardell Williams transfer going to change Carson Conklin's commitment to stay? I would think that Cardell is not blindly transferring to Sac State without some assurances from Marion that he would be a starter, right?

I think it would be a stretch for Marion to name a transfer that was QB3 at Tulsa
the starter. But I’m sure there was a discussion of being involved. If my memory serves me right we have been successful with a 2 QB system before. And given Conklin’s decision to stay should suggest there has been positive discussion from Marion of “you’re our guy”, now let me go get you some weapons. And lastly, we have no choice but to get some help, the QB room is depleted.

Plus no winning team gets by with one good QB for the season. Williams is a better runner than Conklin, that will help at the goal line. Also, I’ve been skeptical of these FBS transfers in the past but if you look at these new commitments, these guys for the most part were “players” at the FBS level (the guys we’ve gotten in the past have been FBS scout team players/no real stats-film before coming here)

Looks like Williams split time at QB in '23 (got hurt maybe?) as he had a decent stat line that season. Played in 7 game in '24 but only 24 snaps. Put in for certain situations maybe?

I believe it is very likely the case that Coach Marion advised both Carson Conklin and Cardell Williams that there will be an open competition for the position. And that he may very well use 2 QB's at times.

But even if he opts for only one QB as his bonafide starter, I can't imagine Williams would transfer over w/o the assurance of an open competition. And I doubt Carson Conklin would remain with the program w/o the same assurance.

The same type of thing happened in 2023 when Carson Camp transferred over and eventually won the opening game gig before losing it soon thereafter.
