This year's approach is 100% different than last years. Last year in the preseason we were trying to win every game and highlight our NBA draft pick, Dillon Jones. We used a tight rotation from the get go and it probably hurt us in the late season. This year, even in the bigger games, we are playing 10 and 11 guys significant minutes. With all of the new faces and three freshmen getting a lot of minutes against really good competition, you can expect a lot of inconsisencies. The idea is to get these guys ready to play major roles as depth for later in the season. We may take our lumps now, but the plan is to have better depth and be playing at our peak in February and March. Can these recruits play now? The last two games aren’t really encouraging. Sure they are against good teams but it’s not looking good getting rolled by USU, Oregon State, and Nevada.
Sounds a lot like the synopsis from the last Eric Duft roundball excuse speech? Build up the highs and downplay the lows. It is okay to really look in the mirror and form your own opinionsThis year's approach is 100% different than last years. Personally, I like the longer range perspective. Let's visit this again in late March.
So far, this recruiting class is very, very good. Time will tell, but maybe one of the best we have ever had. I don't remember any recruiting class being rated higher than this one. In past years we have had maybe one player rated this high, but never all four rated as high as these guys are. To give you a little perspective, Damian Lillard and Dillon Jones were not rated as high as the lowest one of these four. Now, will they work as hard and turn out as good as Lillard and Jones? Nobody really knows.
