2025 Recruiting Tracker

I am hoping that AB can land at least one defensive lineman that weighs at least 280lbs before the season starts. I cant even recall the last time we had an all league defensive interior lineman.
 
The backfield was mostly the problem last year on defense. Not that the whole defense needs drastic improvement. The season before last size wasn't the problem on the dline, they weren't being pushed around, they just could recognize misdirection which is a huge thing now a days. I think they got better last year but coaching is still lacking.

But as we all learned from the super bowl. Being able to consistently get pressure while rushing 4 guys is like a football cheat code.
 
jalen hurts said it best yesterday. "Defense wins Championships". You saw it yesterday, you have a strong defensive line it makes the rest of your defense look real good. Your right Coaching is lacking on defense , He has 13 Offensive lineman and 5 interior Defensive lineman, two of those guys are big but slow, the other three are undersized. we are terrible against the run...

I don't think the roster on the website is accurate at this point. I counted over 20 offensive lineman at one point. FCS schools should have 15-20 offensive lineman and 8 to 12 defensive lineman. I could 100% see Best taking a few DL scholarships and giving them to the OL though.

I think you might want to manage your expectations, we are an FCS school. We're not Alabama who is gonna get the 320 pounder who can run a 4.6 sec 40 yard dash. I don't expect interior guys to chase down a running back as much as collapse the pocket or close running lanes. Running down a running back is for linebackers and defensive ends. I don't think we've had a really good pass rushing DE since Ebukam.
 
I don't expect EWU to put out nfl caliber defensive lineman. However, its all relative at the FCS level. Why can some other schools in the big sky have a good defensive line and stop the run in the Big Sky.? . Opposing running backs lick their chops at our porous defensive line.





The Eastern Washington Eagles football defense was ranked ninth in the Big Sky Conference and among the worst in the nation in 2024. We gave up an average 36 PPG and were ranked 112th out 123 teams.at the FCS level.
I don't even want to go back to 2023 and 2022, probably more of the same. Remember we aren't facing SEC offensive lines week in and week out in the BSC. We are facing FCS offenses, we just aren't good on defense. My expectations aren't high at all, especially with Coach Best at the helm. I would like to see a decent defense that gives are offense more opportunities. I am a realist, I just don't see EWU making a big jump on defense anytime soon. I love my eagles but i have given up on them with AB in charge.

Teams aren't "licking their chops" cause our d line is undersized or not athletic enough. More like the running backs run one direction and the d-line runs the other.its not size or athleticism, is coaching.

If you wanted to argue a group where the talent and size isn't there or just sheer numbers, its the linebackers. Past red/white spring games the few linebackers we had had to play both sides because we didn't have enough. If we don't have enough to play two sides, we don't have enough for there to be good competition in the position group. Its the front 7 that stops the run, not just the defensive tackles. I can't even remember the last time we had a good linebacker. Chis Ojoh who transferred? Ketner Kupp? And when is the last time we had a good outside linebacker or a defensive end? Samson Ebukam? I guess Best is trying to address that with a full time LB coach and letting Eric Sanders just to DC stuff. It maybe the one smart move he has done lately. I wonder how he'll fuck it up.

Yea no shit we're not going against SEC offenses, I never said we were or even indicated we were. Like Zornes said, Matthew Brown was second team big sky. Talent is there, coaching isn't. Best hires shitty coaches and the few good ones he hires run for another job ASAP.

Also why are you giving me stats. I'm the one that made the stats page. Believe me I know.
