2025 Spring Ball

The Spring Game will be here before we know it, and with the excitement back around Hornet Football right now, I am interested to see how long the wave can ride until the Fall season starts. Can we get a significant turn out for the Spring Game (2000 - 4000 fans)?? Some of you that are local maybe have attended a few in recent years. Is there already that many attending? Are we way off? I don’t believe in my playing years (2012-2014) we were anywhere even 1000.

When I was a player there was a chance for fan engagement with players after the game but no other real attraction for being there? Has the administration considered bringing a couple of the food trucks? I think it also could be good rather than only even sending invites to top recruits to attend, which is what we did in the past, but also invite entire local high school teams to attend. Do we get any involvement from those that pay for premium season tickets or our main donors? How can we get the student body to be interested in a Spring Game at Sac State?

Coach Marion and his staff seem to be fully on board trying to build hype and excitement around the program. If we are hoping to get ready for the next step of FBS something like the Spring Game can be a unique recruiting tool/weekend each season to set ourselves apart from the rest and show our level of excitement and commitment around Hornet football. And also build more of the community engagement amongst young fans and families that we need to fill the stadium come Fall.

If I was local I’d certainly be attending this year, there will be a lot of meshing needing to be done in a short amount of practice time with all the new faces brought in but the physical stature of the team already feels different and I would be excited to see how we look coming out of the locker rooms.

This is an FBS level RB room --- the O line will need to gel this summer. But something special seems to be afoot here.

As a guy who likes the running game, this is VERY good news. Lots of yardage on the ground, to be followed with some well-executed reverses and option- and play-action passes. Thank you for the gouge, Sting....

Is there anyone that is attending the Spring Game? If I lived in the area I would but I am very interested to see what people think of the team passing the eye test, the talent level, and what sort of fan turn out we get.

I am no longer local, but still have season tix, and plan to bring the whole family for a day on campus. The weather will be beautiful.

I expect this will be the best attended Spring Game in Sac history.

I'm planning on attending the spring game. I've been to some in the past, doesn't really do anything for me however this spring game should have a different vibe. It looks like the admin is setting up events to generate some turnout (halftime concert with some people I've never heard of) so I'm interested to see how this goes.

Okay, my quick observations from my phone.

-Carson made pinpoint passes in tight windows, but also threw a couple INTs. Nothing to worry about, but he looked fine.

-QB2 Cordell Williams is the running QB. He has a bigger frame than KB, with a bigger arm, but less accurate. Lotta Garrett Saffron in this kid.

-Jamar Curtis is a game breaker, my goodness. He’s deadly out of the slot too. He’s going to be all over the field.

-Onterrio Smith Jr. looked like WR 1 - played fantastic with the 1s.

-TE1 was Jordan Williams, no sign of Coleman Kurtz. Williams is physically imposing.

-Jaxon Fresques is shifty AF, looked like a little Scudero out there playing with the 2s.

-Defense got sacks, highlight was probably seeing Xavier Williams with the 1s, back from injury.

Wow 7100?! Far more than I could have hoped for that is amazing. I was thinking 2 to 3000 would have been above expectation.
IT was packed, they weren’t ready for a group that big bathroom and concession wise. Game had good pace, but could’ve been a better atmosphere.

There was a long line to get into the stadium due to the security check but I had no issue getting to a pisser. Concessions were crammed but there were only 3 or 4 food trucks. Oh well, should have tailgated like us seasoned vets. Lesson learned for those noobs.

Impressive turnout and credit to everyone from Dr. Wood all the way down the line for making this happen. The crowd was very youthful and a ton of future recruits were on hand. While in line to enter the stadium, I struck up a conversation with a HS senior behind me. He said he's going to Sac State in the fall and figured he drive up from Modesto to check out the game. This is exactly what Dr. Wood is talking about when he makes reference to elevating the university with the move to FBS. This move is a very big deal.

I don't have much comment to add for the on the field action, I was too busy soaking up the atmosphere and trying to digest/believe that 7k showed up to a spring game. I've been to a handful of spring games in the past but this one had a much different vibe than others. Players looked very athletic and I loved the live on the field interviews with various players during the game. The Xavier Williams interview was great:

Interviewer: Which games on the schedule are you looking forward to?
Xavier: All of them. We're going to give it to everyone.

Straight fire.
