Lots of great stuff in this thread! Some thoughts:
- With Montana State I think they have the talent, but it is a lot of guys that will be new faces. There is also word that Biglow won't be eligible to play until January, and a chance he doesn't play for the Bobcats all year. That would be a big loss for them if he is not eligible. They have a chance to be really good this year, and next I like them a lot.
- Agreed with skeeter about
Tremayne Johnson and his importance to the team this year. It's true we don't know quite how good Chiverton will be yet, but either way their backcourt should be solid. They need frontcourt production, and Johnson is their best frontcourt player. If he can be a little more efficient scoring the ball, they will be very good. Crogsile (one of the transfers Tal was talking about) was a nice recruit and played good minutes for St. Joe's, so I am excited to see him play next year.
- Feel like UNC could be middle of the pack, but definitely a year away from being a true contender. Garnica and Unruh are really solid, and I like Addo a lot in the frontcourt. Solid give man recruiting class as well. But they will be young, very young.
- I think NAU is a year away also. Rogers and Saldivar are solid, but a lot of question marks everywhere else. Solid recruits, but it's tought to ask a freshman to come in and contribute right away. In the
frontcourt they have an interesting mix of guys (returners, newcomers, redshirts, guys coming back from injury) but they will need a couple of guys to step up, don't know who it will be yet.
- PSU has coaching questions, but I think they are on the right track. Academically they are improved, and that off-court stuff can affect things on the court. Odum and Tapscott are solid returners, McMullan is a solid JUCO PG, Michael Harthun transferred from WSU and could be a nice contributor, and Brandon Cataldo (who redshirted last year) was a top 10 center recruit before he got injured his senior year of high school. If he can get back his explosiveness, he will be very solid right away.
- ISU and SacSt, yuck. They will have some long seasons.
- Next year, UND will be a nice addition for the conference and should be competitive right away. They had 5 freshman that played big minutes last year... of the 10 youngest teams in America last season, only them and Memphis finished above .500. I'm interested to see if they can improve on that next year, and then they will be dangerous in their first year of Big Sky play.
This will be a great year... the top 7 is very topsy turvy and could legitimately go a number of different ways. It should be a lot of fun to see how things shake out. Is it time for the season to start yet??
