I agree certainly that EWU has looked the part of the 2nd best team in the Big Sky, but I think it's a bit premature to crown them as the biggest threat to Weber and be done with it. Montana is still a pretty good club (they have arguably the best non-conference win of anyone in the conference, against Long Beach State), and there are a couple reasons I still think they may be the second best.
One, Tinkle has been experimenting a lot with rotations in the non-conference schedule, and in particular they have two freshman wings that I think will get better and better as the season goes on. Keron DeShields is a 2/3 that has slowly been getting a bigger role (he didn't even play the first two games of the year, and has double digit mins in the last 3, including 3 3s against North Dakota) and Kevin Henderson might be their most athletic guy, and could be an excellent defender by the end of the year. In the post, that is their big weakness, but it should get better as Billy Reader gets more time and experience. He is a redshirt freshman, but is the best in the program at scoring down low, and also maybe the best rebounder in the team. He is still doing dumb freshman things (foul trouble, and I have heard he takes defensive possessions off), but if the light clicks, he will be a weapon for them.
At this point EWU looks like #2, but it is too early to really say definitively in my mind who the top challenger will be. EWU and Montana and 2 and 3 in the conference, but I'm not sure what order yet.
