#4 Weber State @ Idaho

Wasn't always pretty but a road win in conference is always a good win. If UI gets some coaching they may have something.

Not a fan of Weber's inability to close out games strong when they are in control. It almost feels like an attitude. A win's a win but looking ahead to better opponents and/or possible playoff games, it's not what you hope for.

No complaining now.

Josh Davis sat 2nd half with concussion protocol. Hope it's negative. If not, good thing we're deep at RB and we're playing the TBirds next.

Too funny. I guess I need to be happy and smile when the offense puts a knee on it for half the game, too. Lol.

Sac State and Montana look like incredibly tough road games. Need to clean up the mess and have the offense play to score points the whole game and put games away by then.

Still, it’s a big win. Any road win is. Big Sky looks tough, very little separation if any from top to bottom.

Go Wildcats!

Did you all notice the adjustments made along the O line in the second half? Their stud DE wasn't in Jake's face as much in the second half and our run plays off tackle were more efficient. It looked to me like we changed the spacing just a bit and it gave our young tackles some better angles to work with. We had much better offensive flow in the second half.

Our D looked a bit off. We may have missed one or two key players more than I thought we would.

Special teams were great the whole game, up until that last return. That was pathetic.

For the second game in a row, our punter gets the game ball, for some all new reasons.

On to SUU. Don't forget the last time they came to Ogden for Homecoming, as clear underdogs. We need to get better, not stumble over our little bro. :coffee:

Just win baby. Not a pretty game, but it is a W. Lots to improve upon this week.

Offense - B minus
The good - Weber ran the ball effectively with 4 rushing TDs and several explosive gains. Cooley had a strong game receiving with 9 receptions.
The bad - Weber struggled to capitalize on turnovers with just 2 field goals and a punt.
The ugly - Pass blocking was terrible, especially on the edges. Weber did make an adjustment or two, with quicker passes, a counter running attack, and leaving in an extra blocker. But they gave up 3 sacks including a fumble and Constantine was under pressure on many plays.
Weber was 5 of 14 on 3rd down and 3 of 3 in the redzone.

Defense - B minus
Tackling was not good this game, way too many plays extended by poor tackling. Despite a decent amount of pressure by the front 7, Weber lost containment on the QB several times. Mobile QBs have continued to cause problems for Weber. On the bright side, Weber won the turnover battle again with three fumbles recovered.

Special Teams - A (minus for the last garbage kick coverage)
Simply amazing special teams play this game, minus the one play we won't discuss. Doug Lloyd averaged 45.2 yards a punt, but his two fakes won the game. Tuttle was very good as well with two long field goals.

Injuries
Constantine played, though I don't think he looked completely healthy. Josh Davis (concussion protocol) left the game at half time and did not return. Adam Rodriguez (concussion protocol) and Tyler Downs (knee) were still out and did not play.

Penalties
Weber was a little undisciplined this game with 11 penalties for 99 yards. Gotta clean that up.

First win at Idaho since 1987.

Congrats to Tarlas. You know you're deep when your back-up is getting POW. Also nominated were Kris Jackson for Offense and Doug Lloyd for Special Teams. Hard to believe Lloyd doesn't get it for Special Teams. Without him Weber probably loses that game.

Solid win by the Cats and getting a W on the road is even better. Idaho isn't a bad team and has the potential to win a few games; especially on its home field. They are definitely better than last year. Yet, we also made them look a lot better than what they actually are. It is really nice knowing that Coach Hill will use this as a learning experience and the team will get a lot better because of this outing. We are soooo fortunate to have Coach Hill and some really good assistants here at Weber. He's building something exceptional.

Amazing how good, talented, kickers can change momentum with special abilities and plays. Doug Lloyd and Trey Tuttle are definitely special players and we are extremely lucky to have them. In my opinion both of them should have gotten game balls. So fun watching our special teams.

Our OL has to get better if our offense is going to have a chance at improving. Constantine didn't have the best passing game, but he was running for his life most of the time. If the OL could give him another second or two, he has the skill players available to open up the field and make completions. He had around 10 passes that were incomplete because he had to rush the throw. Give either Jake or Jenks time and both can break up a secondary.
