5 Weeks until Signing Day. . . . .

I'm hearing that recruiting isn't going very well (no surprise). A number of the O/D linemen that were interested in September and October are no longer receptive to playing for the Bears. Also hearing that UNC has been slow-playing the best player in their back yard - a kid that's always wanted to be a Bear - leaving the door open for several other Big Sky schools. It'll be devastating if they lose him to a conference opponent.

No offense intended Blofeld, but no...no things aren't being done the right way. Beardown, I apologize for one last time regarding my memory lapse concerning coaches bailing out of UNC. My memory had continued to deteoriate. I continue to provide every ounce of support for the Bears (our Bears, my Bears)...
But for now, I am OUT until things do get done "the right way".....which, by the way, has little to do with a win here or there. Go Bears!

I wasn't endorsing what Dunn said I was more calling him out for making such a foolish comment... It's been a year since Dunn was hired right? What has he "dunn" exactly? I guess he can get credit for the naming rights to Butler Hancock... and he got them to add a bouncey castle to the tailgate area for football games... and he gave a football coach with a terrible record an extension and a ringing endorsement.

So for my one year Dunn perfromance review I'll keep it short and sweet...

Not impressed.

Edited to add: To be fair he did hire that women's basketball coach and I do applaud that as appearing to be a great hire so I do want to give credit where due.

What?

Any word on how recruiting is doing? Is it mostly first hand stories, or is there an article floating around? I'm curious what exactly is going on with the recruiting.

Beardown, I was referencing a post that incorrectly tabbed one of our previous o-line coaches as a member of collins' staff. I pride myself of holding opinions based on fact.....
I screwed that one up.......bad information presented as fact is rarely a good thing.

The only recruits I can find is two running backs from the South. Jerrold West, and Johnny Hankins. Both seem pretty solid, but they committed back in the summer, and we have a new running backs coach, so I don't know if either are still coming to Greeley.

Haven't seen or heard much. Of course it is still officially the Dead Period for recruiting, so it probably isn't all the surprising.

Did pick this up on Twitter though-

I AM OFFICIALLY COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO!!! FINALLY DID IT #D1Bound

Looks like it is Denzel Hatcher out of Florida. Graduated in 2013 and then played last season at East Coast Prep. He is a 5'11", 220 lb linebacker.

Here are his highlights from East Coast Prep-

Not sure it matters does it? I think the coaching staff has done a fair to good job recruiting over the years. The problem is what happens when these guys make it to Greeley.

Comments like this only hurt recruiting.

That may be true, but the football program in Greeley is not smelling like roses no matter how you spin it. Prospective recruits and their parents deserve to know that. Particularly when the coaches who are recruiting them are telling them they are buying a Mercedes when what they are actually selling is a Pinto.

That's very true. Recruits do read this board. I'm guilty for being negative as well, but perhaps we should put this aspect in perspective. We should end every negative comment with a "*UNC was once and can still be a great place to play football," (I'm half joking).

Now 3 weeks until signing day. . . . no reporting out of the worst newspaper in Colorado. Don't really know what's going on but some of my HS coaching contacts have told me that their kids that have been hotly pursued have not heard much from UNC in recent weeks. Don't know if out-of-state kids are suddenly coming on board or what.

It is not surprising that the kids haven't heard from the coaches the last few weeks since recruiting has been in the dead period since mid December. It does end tomorrow though, so if the kids are hotly recruited they should start hearing from the coaches soon.

I have two key concerns with recruiting right now-

1. If you take a look at last year's thread on recruiting we had already been able to identify a number of commitments and even more offers by this point. A lot of that was via social media. Kids love to Tweet about their offers and commitments. Twitter has been absolutely silent the last couple of months. I find that to be a very concerning indicator of how recruiting is going.

2. I have talked with 2 different high school head coaches in the Denver area and both have said that the UNC program is a mess and that they are telling their kids not to consider UNC as an option. One of these coaches has more than a couple kids on his team with offers from the Bears. Again a concerning indicator. If these two Colorado coaches are steering kids away, How many other Colorado coaches are doing the same?

He is a 3 star on Rivals:

Bryan Stansbury, a JuCo middle LB is joining or has joined the Bears. I believe he's on campus already, prepping for Spring ball.

Brandon Biggs, a LB from Valor has committed to the Bears. Also, I have seen 3 or 4 preps commit to UND - No Names. What's the deal? When Collins was hired, he made a point that his goal is to keep other Colorado preps from going to other Big Sky schools. So far it hasn't worked. I've seen UND, SDSU, and USD all pick up Colorado kids. :ohno:
