A win is a win but...

Being told what to do in all caps and being called boy would make me want to run out to Cheney and take pictures immediately if I was a man in my sixties...

Vernon Adams
Pro's:
- Much more mobile than Padron, can make a lot of plays with his feet
- Has a year plus in the system, since he ran the scout team last year
- The read-option - well, becomes an option

Con's:
- Hasn't shown the ability to stretch the field yet. This is my main concern, since our entire offense is predicated on it. This may change in the future, but right now it's an issue
- Only 6'0" and it seemed like he didn't have great field vision
- Decent accuracy, but not great. This will probably get better with time, but lots of underthrown balls to wide-open receivers and TE's. Hard to judge through only 1/2 of a game, though

Vernon Adams played high school ball in arguably the toughest division in the land. He is a "special" player that does not come around very often. His athletic ability is matched by his football IQ. Please understand that if he were a few inches taller he would not be at EWU, and I mean no disrespect. For those of you who may not know or maybe haven't seen here is his a short film of his HS days. Give this young man the reigns for 4 years and you will be AMAZED with what he will do for your program. http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=gkvBWhDblj8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hardly think that 1/2 of a real game qualifies someone to discern an athletes "pros" and "cons", but that's just me. Good luck Vernon and to the rest of the team as well!!!! HYDRATE DUMMY!

Good post, and welcome, Coach. Hope you stick around, it'd be great to have someone around who's watched Vernon play a while. :thumb:

I have very mixed feelings on starting Adams and then playing Padron in the 2nd half. I trust what the coaching staff is up to, so I guess we'll just see how things play out. Maybe it's possible that KP still had a sore ankle and they wanted to go to more of a mobile game as Weber's secondary is also pretty good.

I think EWU played well considering it was on the road against a desperate 0-3 team with a veteran QB. A said before, a win is a win and we'll take it whatever way it's given.

I'm a little worried about the Griz coming in here really pissed off and almost facing a "must win" but I think EWU is the better team if they just play their game! Can't wait until Saturday!

I'm a fan of having one QB be the starter, but everybody witnessed how a QB like Adams coming in can work to our advantage. Weber wasn't prepared, because nothing was said. However every other opponent will have to game plan for both QBs which will take a lot more time, since both are so different. Also, when we were backed up on the 1 yard line in the second half, Adams came in to take advantage with his speed and made a lot out of nothing when Weber crashed the edges. I hope Padron is the main starter for the rest of the season, but at the same time I hope we find ways to utilize Adams and get him in the game for a series, a couple plays, whatever. Too much talent to sit on the bench.

Also, I feel sorry for whoever faces the Griz after us... because they're gonna be REALLY pissed off.

GO EAGS!!

EWUeag,
You are so right, doesn't look a day over 39, remember Jack Benny? He stayed 39 until the day he left this EARTH.  Reference younger Vic, he is now the Coach at West Valley, going on his 12th year. Vic

This, a 100 times this.

Adams is obviously a play maker and I love how the Griz will have to game plan for two different QB's.

I suppose we will all, forever more, make comparisons to the 2010 team. But just like at this point during that season, we still don't have an identity. I'm not saying that's bad, but we're still an unknown commodity. What I DO like is that we have some playmakers on both sides of the ball. For example, TJ Lee's corner blitz, forced fumble, and recovery yesterday is just the type of difference maker that helped us win a bunch of close games that year. Or when our backs were against the wall at WSU we forced a fumble on the goal line that got us back in the game.

The line between 6-5 and 9-2 is razor thin. Perhaps even more so now that the conference is deeper and has more talent. Our next four games are against Montana, UND, MSU, and Sac. Four teams that are all, or at least could be ranked and/or have enough talent like we do to knock off FBS programs.

Strap in and enjoy the ride.

Yesterday was a good win for the team. Weber is a REALLY physical team, they always have been. Coming out with a win, at Weber, is a good win, I don't care what their record is. Right now we are 1-0 in conference and 2-1 overall, can't complain at all. Winning the Big Sky is the first goal, and the most important goal in moving towards a championship, last night we started off in the right direction.

As far as the QB situation, it was a surprise that Adams started last night because the coaches had not said anything, but from a talent standpoint, I don't think anyone should be surprised. He was a Freshman, starting in his first game, on the road, and led us to a 17 point lead at the half, no complaints at all. Adams and Padron are both studs and they bring a different element to the game. I think Weber was completely caught off guard by Adams. They started the game dropping a lot of guys into coverage and this opened up a ton of running lanes, and Adams is the perfect QB to have in that situation. I also think Baldwin saw that Weber was absolutely torched on the ground last week by Mcneese and felt that we may be able to run the ball better with Adams starting at QB, and we did run the ball much better.

I think both QB's will see a lot of action from here on out and it is nice to know we have two capable QB's. If anyone is surprised by Adams starting, they shouldn't be, he was lights out this fall in practice before the season and he was a stud last night. He is going to be a GREAT QB at Eastern. I'm not throwing Padron under the bus, I just think Adams is a stud too. Bottom line is, the QB who gives us the best chance to win is going to play.

I do think Padron may start against the Griz. The Griz are suspect in their secondary, although NAU ran through their defense like they were playing a highschool team, and I think we will throw it more early against the Griz and that would favor Padron, but I'm sure we will be fine with either guy, they are both great. The Griz are going to come in hungry, this is a HUGE game for them and for us. We will be playing at home and I think if we jump on them early, we can really control this game. The Griz are not a very good passing team this year, so if we can take the lead early and shut down the run in the first half, they will be forced to try and throw it. Hopefully our D-Line will be able to get more pressure on Mckinney then they were against Hoke, if we can pressure Mckinney like we are capable of, the Griz are in for a long day as our secondary has been lights out for the most part.

I can't wait for the game on Saturday! Anyone going to the Turf tailgate Friday night?

Was never really worried in this game for two reason: We have the abilty to get on top big time then coast orrrr we get behing by three td's early in the third qtr and sears puts in his patented pass prevent defense which would have assurred us a win....I've seen that maneuver before.

It did say bro not boy and IMHO I read it as an affectionate request.

I can change my post right now and say that Vic is in his thirties instead of the original "man in my sixties". He changed it, you read it too late, I already admitted that I misinterpreted the tone, it's over. I apologize for hijacking the thread.

I have to say that I'm embarrassed that I wasn't thinking very much when I was at practice last Wednesday. I saw both Padron and Adams taking turns in goaline situations with the starters, alternating every 4 downs.

Although I guess that's a good thing, because I wasn't able to leak the info like an idiot. :D

Agree....however, everyone now has game film. They know Adams won't stay in the pocket and is more likely to run than pass.

The first half of that video made me think we should put him at runningback.
