Alliance with Portland Timbers Army?

Portland Timbers fan club (The Timbers Army) has been talking about PSU on their web site. The want to team up with PSU to get the City of Portland to install new turf in PGE Park. They are willing to start coming to PSU games in the fall if we ally ourselves with them and lobby Portland for FieldTurf in the Stadium. I say we do it! Let's team up with the TA. They are awesome and it would be great to have them at PSU games.

Yikes that is a long thread, I like the idea but turf scares me a little, I know people who have nearly died beacuse they had cuts exposed to the turf, if it's turf, NO astro! just field turf, if so, I'm all for it

I have played on turf and what we have now is worse then what new turf would be! Turf actually simulated natural turf alot better then the practically indoor-outdoor crap that we currently play on. I think it would be great to get the timbers fan club to come to the football games!! They are the rowdy group that we need to amplify the in-game atmosphere and help build a house of pain!

However I don't think the Beavers would be all that excited about it, they would be the opposition in support of the city in rejecting the addition.

I think what they are proposing is the same turf as our practise field. The current turf at the stadium is horrible. If we ally ourselves with the Timbers Army, they have offered to come to PSU games as a group. If you have never been to a Timbers game, they are a very large, loud rooting group. We could sure use them at PSU games.

The realistic folk are asking for the same turf as the PSU practice field. Many (especially the purists) want real grass. Unfortunately, the Beavers have a thing for hard surfaces.

If you notice on that thread, I'm kind of skeptical that we can make it a point of emphasis with JG. I've got my second wind to understand that he'll probably respond to what us Timber fans have mailed to him.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

April 5: Monthly gathering of Timbers Army at the Bullpen Tavern.

April 14: Second annual Timber Jim challenge at the Bullpen... it's a long explanation to explain how the first one was in England.

April 21: Season opener, Timbers v Puerto Rico, 7 pm... for the first match, we usually set up a pub crawl and work from wherever to the Bitter End and Bullpen prior to the match.

My thing to you: I cannot teach this on the computer. You have to be there to know. There's a lot of chants we use that you can use. There are others that are too profane for the NCAA, though I'm not sure I see them enforcing anything. Given events from the end of last season, I'm not sure if I should warn you about smoke bombs and what-not... but every game is a party at PGE Park. Be there!

That would require adding more seats. We need to fill the seats we have before we add more. I would put them in what use to be the student section, right above the Widmer beer garden.

Why not stick them in section 107 (the end zone). That is where they sit for Timbers games. They love it there! Imagine the whole end zone filled with fans!

Kerry Eggers wrote a piece in Friday's trib stating that the turf is being safety tested soon and that he expects it to fail the test. It's the city's responsibility for capital improvements to PGE Park and new turf would be just such an improvement.

There are many in Timbers Army that are excited about PSU Football and plan to buy season tix for the fall. Come join us for a match when the season starts April 21.

I don't plan on buying season tix, but I do plan on attending 3 or 4 games. I have attended only one college football game since I graduated in '99 (and that was Ducks @ Wazoo last year), but now that the Vikes have The Man In Black at the helm, I intend to see what's up.

If we can get GA seating I'm certain there are enough Timbers Army that want to come to PSU games and make a lot of noise. Hopefully the presence of Glanville can help get something done about the state of that wretched playing surface.

Glad you are deciding to go, you won't be dissapointed

Just thought I'd bump this thread.

Portland Timbers have three home matches this next week.

May 9 v. Necaxa of Mexico (exhibition) 7pm
May 11 v. Seattle Sounders (hated rivals) 8pm (live on FSC 401)
May 13 v. Rochester Rhinos (perennial power) 7pm

We'd love to host some PSU folks in or near section 107. Check out www.talktimbers.com to get the scoop.
