Depth at the five spot would be nice.

I hope this is a real possibility.

Wow, I was just watching a GU game a couple of weeks ago and wishing that he had stayed in state! He would be a really nice addition at PSU, but I wouldn't be surprised if he went to UP either. The Pilots will be needing some frontcourt depth in the near future, and Andy might view them as a better option.

Good point about UP, but last year he got to see PSU do two things that UP couldn't do. Beat Gonzaga and go to the NCAA tournament.

Excellent points. There's also the fact that schools sometimes prevent kids from transferring within the same conference, so it is possible that GU would prevent him from going to UP.

It is certainly a real possibility. He was on campus today--may still be in fact. Having a mobile big man to go along with the strength of Lozeau and Cataldo would definitely be a welcome change.

Andy Poling ready to transfer, considers Portland State, Portland and Nevada

Redshirt freshman forward Andy Poling, the former standout from Westview High School who was granted his release from Gonzaga on Tuesday, is considering transferring to Portland State, Portland or Nevada, and said Wednesday afternoon that he hopes to make a decision by the end of this weekend.

“I’m still in the process of taking everything in,” Poling said after watching the first half of Portland State’s practice Wednesday afternoon at the Stott Center. “I'm getting calls from other places, but Portland State, Nevada and the University of Portland are the three main places I'm looking at.”

The 6-foot-11, 232-pound Poling was disappointed with a lack of playing time at Gonzaga and told Bulldogs coach Mark Few about his intentions to transfer after the team returned to Spokane following Saturday's 85-83 overtime victory against Illinois at the United Center in Chicago.

Poling appeared in six of Gonzaga's first 14 games, averaging 1.8 points in 3.8 minutes while playing behind Rob Sacre, Elias Harris, Will Foster, Kelly Olynyk and Bol Kong.

Interesting, sounds like he would be a great pick-up for us. Hopefully he'll notice the success that other transfers have had here recently.

Has anyone heard any updates on Poling?

This is all I could find:

http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/sportslink/

"Spoke with ex-Zag Andy Poling’s mom, Jenny, for a few minutes this morning. She said Andy hasn’t decided on where he’ll transfer. He visited Portland State and is expected to visit Nevada sometime this week. She said there might be other schools involved in addition to Portland, Portland State and Nevada, but Andy is still deciding if he wants to stay close to home. His intention is to enroll this week so he’ll be eligible next January."

Ex-Gonzaga big man transfers to Seattle Pacific

Andy Poling, a highly touted forward from Portland, has enrolled at Seattle Pacific after leaving Gonzaga.

"I just think it should be a really good fit, I really liked the coaching staff, they're all really good guys and the team is really competitive, top 15 (in NCAA Division II) right now," Poling told Jim Meehan of the Spokesman-Review. "I lived in Seattle until I was 9 or 10. It's a great city and it's a little closer to home. My family can come watch me and it's a smaller school, and I really liked that about Gonzaga."

Poling, a 6-foot-11 redshirt freshman, played just 23 minutes for the Zags this season and was buried in the big-man rotation behind Rob Sacre, Elias Harris, Will Foster, Kelly Olynyk and Bol Kong. He will have three seasons of eligibility at Seattle Pacific.

He is. Apparently no D-1 teams could offer the PT Poling was looking for. If he had come to PSU last year he most likely would have been happier with their situation.
