Another Beau Baldwin scare

It seems these articles never seem to manifest into an actual hire, but Beau Baldwin is listed as a coaching candidate for Nevada in this article:

This writer actually believes Beau Baldwin is the favorite.

I have such a hard time believing that Beau would go to Nevada. The other candidates have close ties to Nevada and would energize the fan base. Yes, Beau's salary would double, but Nevada has the lowest athletic budget in the MWC.

Also, I grew up in Reno and their fan base was always so annoying. It made it hard to root for them.

When I saw this on Football Scoops yesterday, my first thought is this is the kind of school for Beau to go make hay for the P5 job of his future. Not saying it's optimal, but a better landing than Wyoming was a couple of years ago. Wouldn't be surprised at something like UTEP, Tulsa or similar situation opening if CBB is OK with a move off the west coast. Do we need a website: Don't Go Beau?

:? Wulff went to The PAC 12 and he was mediocre imo. It would be a waste of time for Beau to leave Eastern for Nevada... but that Oregon job might be tempting to him. How much does it pay?

Doubt Coach B will be considered for an Oregon position unless it's OC. Nothing personal, but no FCS coach will be considered to make jump to P5.

IMO schools like Nevada and UNLV is where coaches carreers go to die. The best scenario for Beau would be to stay near his recruiting base of the northwest or at minimum the west coast. That would be Oregon but to jump to HC at a Pac 12 is more than a jump it is a pole vault! If Jim McElwain wanted to get back to the northwest or west coast the Oregon job would be a great fit and hire Beau as his OC.
Bittersweet- Bitter for us sweet for Beau

UNLV will be a program to recon with thanks to the Fertitta family. They pledged 10mil for a Football training complex and 16mil has been raised of the 24mil complex. They will also be playing in the new National Football League’s Raiders franchise's stadium. There is a real movement to make UNLV football relevant...stay tuned. http://www.reviewjournal.com/opinion/columns-blogs/ed-graney/fertitta-football-complex-will-make-unlv-relevant-college-arms-race

movement to make UNLV football relevant
Apparently that movement started AFTER Bobby Hauck's career took a big setback, and relegated him to special teams coach @ SDSU. He is a very good coach but still could not revive that train wreck. Years ago I was at a luncheon in LV where John Robinson, the HC at the time, talked about the difficulty recruiting to the LV area. He said, "Would you send your son to Las Vegas to college?"

I think you nailed it.

My two worries would be:

1.) If McElwain goes to Oregon and takes BB as his OC

2.) If Oregon hires the Boise coach, leaving the Boise vacancy as a possibility.

BB could go to Nevada, but really, Reno? Smallest Budget in the MWC, not the best fan base, it would be a nice bump in pay, but not sure its something I could see BB taking...

clawman, you are correct on all counts. Changes are coming out of UNLV as we speak. The biggest problem with UNLV football recruiting is the facilities which are the worst in the MWC. There is true excitement going on with that program...keep your eyes open down the road. I'm not trying to legitimize the program just pointing out positive changes.I personally don't give a rats ass...

Not worried. Beau will do what's best for he and his family.

Agreed. If the decision makes sense for him, so be it.

That said, I think Oregon is looking to spend ridiculous money, so it's unlikely they'd go to an FCS coach. I don't see Nevada as a school with real potential. My guess would be, if he leaves, it'll be to somewhere like a Boise State if it were to open up. Maybe a lower tier BCS school that can't afford a big splash hire.

If McElwain went to Oregon, which may be a remote possibility, I suspect he'll want to run the offense.

The job that ought to open up in his favor, if he wants to be an offensive coordinator, is Stanford. They've been Gawd awful offensively forever now, and have enough money to spend whatever they want to get whoever they want. I don't know, though, how he'd take to being a coordinator. Once you steer the ship, sometimes it's hard to give up the wheel.

And as much as I bash Chaves for his crappy scheduling, hiring and retaining talent is clearly his strong suit. If Baldwin leaves, I'd think he'd make sure to get the right guy. I believe Coach Best would have the inside track, but you never know who might come knocking.

Agreed, Chaves has done an incredible job bringing in great coaches to the school.

I shake my head at all of the articles circling social media, especially this time of year, because I think it can be a distraction for our guys heading into a crucial part of a season. While, the talk is flattering that Beau is on so many schools "Wish Lists", I don't believe he will interview anywhere. I'm not in denial, I know he will leave someday, but for now, he and his family have a good thing going here.
