Another Beau Baldwin scare

What about Coach Taylor as a replacement for Beau? Look how much he has helped the offense this year, compared to last year. His work with Gage has been tremendous. He also has Asst. Coaching experience in the PAC 12 at 2 different schools, plus PAC 12 & NFL Playing experience. I would hate to see Beau go but I think Taylor could slide right in and we wouldn't lose much.

Each year I expect it to be CBB's last. Too good of a coach not to get a Div I Off Coordinator gig at a Power 5 school or HC at a mid-major.

Even if EWU doubled his salary to $450K per year it wouldn't change the dynamics other than keeping him from a Univ Of Nevada which he can do better.

This day in age, it's hard to understand, but for some people it's not all about making more money, fame and all the flashy things. Coach B will probably leave SOMEDAY, but in my opinion, it's not going to be to the likes of a Nevada.

Say his salary triples to over 700k...if he took the Nevada job. Cool...that's a lot of money. Then what? He builds the program up to a possible bowl team after a couple years. He's now living comfortably with a competitive team in a crappy conference. If all goes according to plan, maybe he opens enough eyes and then is able to take a P5 job. What if it doesn't? Look at Bobby Hauck...he was a good coach at Montana and he left for the UNLV job. Same state, same conference, arguably better name brand than a Nevada. He failed miserably! Who's fault was that...hard to say. Very good coaches have gone to bigger programs like Hauck at UNLV and failed, maybe not because they're a bad coach, but because it's really hard to survive in the no man's land of college football. Hard to fund, hard to get fan support, and hard to recruit. So, if things don't work out after 4-5 years.. you may have a couple million in the bank (not chump change) but then you're out a job and you can't live out the rest of your life on 2 million bucks...especially raising a family and being as young as Coach B.

Yes, he's severely underpaid here at EWU...to no fault of the program, but due to lack of budget ability. But, he what he does have is reputation, the proven ability to recruit top notch players, comfort in knowing his job will always be safe and a comfortable, very livable wage for any area....let alone this area. Also, he can win National Championships. I've said for years on this site, that Baldwin isn't going to leave just for the money. If the PERFECT job opportunity comes around, he's going to consider it and he should...but it isn't Nevada people. And let's be real....as much as I believe in Coach B...Oregon isn't looking to pay an FCS coach 8+ million per year to come take over. Phil Knight is just too "prideful" for that. If I'm wrong...I'll be the first to admit it and wish him luck. Until BB is announced as the new head coach somewhere else, I'll stay focused on what a fantastic coach, leader, and person he is here at my alma mater!! Go Eags!

It's being rumored that Sonny Dykes from Cal and Mike McIntyre from Colorado will interview for the Baylor job, with McIntyre looking like a serious contender. I could see Beau waiting to see if a PAC 12 job opens up.

I'd wonder if McIntyre would be interested in the Oregon job? If he doesn't see his long-term future at Colorado, this would be the time to parlay his success into a bigger job.

Strangely, I could see Colorado potentially reaching out to Beau Baldwin. That might be the kind of BCS job that might look for a top-end FCS guy.

Why would they want the dumpster fire that is Baylor?

According to this article, Baldwin is one of two candidates for the job. This sounds less like speculation. And Beau's resume is much much better.

If Beau moves on, I hope they strongly consider Coach Taylor. That's assuming he doesn't go as an OC.

I hate these distractions during playoff season.

I hate the thought of Beau Baldwin leaving. His culture is one of my favorite things about the team. It is crazy to think that, like the Bison with Bohl, we could find out Baldwin is leaving before the next playoff game. Talk about distraction! More than that, I love what he brings to EWU football in every facet.

I heard that it was said on the news Baldwin was actively interviewing with Nevada, which makes sense with the article below. I could also see him at Boise St if there is an opening there, especially if Zak Hill has any sway with the AD.

Hmmm, I hadn't heard that. Figured he just found some upward mobility and took it, in which case, I would imagine he would still speak highly of Baldwin. But I am sure there is a lot behind the scenes I am completely unaware of.

Hey dude;
I was surprised to read that speculation as well. I've talked with Hills father numerous times at coaches shows and he always alluded to how happy Zak was @ Eastern but the opportunity @ Hawaii was too good to pass up.

Ditto.

As I read more about Nevada athletics I wonder why so many think this is a great opportunity. They are and have been the lowest budget in the MW conference. Sounds like money and lack of facilities has been a big issue there even why Ault was the coach and considered successful. Speaking of success, a 7 win season is considered a big success and a 6 win season is pretty good. That culture SUCKS and it does not appear it is going to change.
I still contend both Nevada schools are a good place for a coaches career to die.

clawman,
This crap comes up at playoff time every year, I wouldn't put nothing behind the rumors until I see it in writing. I know one thing it is going to be cold again this weekend. We are going to a store on East Trent, 40 North and find some more warm clothing. I along with many people froze out Butts off. If Coach get a new University to coach, I will say he deserves it. I am not going to worry about the RUMOR MILL. Why is it after every game, our bloggers always talk about the other team? Our team have played their butts off every game, and get better each game. Play to our potential, no one will beat the EAGLES. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

It's true down there. The HC at Indiana State is a former HC for UNLV, and I believe he's the only one to every get a D1 HC job after coaching there. I used to live in Reno and there's no coaching history there outside of Ault. They've only had one recent coach move on and that guy coached Nevada for one season. What school did he leave for? UNLV.

Other than that. You have to go back to the 40s to find a guy who actually left for a better job.
