Anybody hear Chaves?

EWU put in a large bid for a first-round game. He thinks they still have a chance if everything breaks right.

The ONLY miracle in which I could see it happen:

1. Portland State MUST lose. They could have 8 wins, we could have 6. Plus, they beat us. It would be pretty hard to take us over them. Nay, it would be impossible to take us over them.

2. Either Youngstown or Indiana State MUST lose. If both finish 7-4, at least one gets in.

3. Probably at least two more bubble at-larges must lose, possibly BOTH Delaware and JMU.

"So you're telling me there's a chance"

Didn't hear Chavez, when did he say this? It is a real LONG shot for Eastern to make it, but that would be fantastic if it somehow happened.

Agree with you Dopa, no way it happens unless PSU loses for sure (Weber won't be an easy game) and several bubble teams lose, even then it is a small, small chance but would a great surprise that would be.

He was interviewed by Larry Weir at halftime of the b-ball game. He admitted it is a big longshot, but has had some convo with the NCAA.

As much as I'd take whatever to get in, it would be a bit of a sham for any 6-5 team to get in, let alone a 6-5 team with no marquee wins. I really don't like 7-4 teams getting in unless they really did something special at some point in the season. If we somehow, miraculously slip in, it would be because of last year's resume not anything from this season. But again, I'd take it.

Probably need South Dakota to beat North Dakota as well... if UND wins and goes to 8-3, they probably look more attractive as an at-large even with only 6 D-I wins, and light work D-I wins at that. At 7-4 with 5 D-I wins, even beating us, it would be unlikely USD would get a look.

Probably a very minimal chance we get in, but I think it's great to see our AD being proactive. It also sends a powerful message to the team that the school is doing what they can to reward their efforts. Kudos to the AD, doesn't hurt to try!!

Come on , we know that Chaves is just trying to make amends because he lost the first four games for us. (sarcasm intended)

Ya, some people would like to blame him for the entire season, like he was out there breaking legs. I do not recall him passing, receiving, blocking or tackling...hmmm

Ill. ST. Loses, In. ST. losing big, Wofford losing, Furman losing...ain't gonna happen but interesting.

Not that they had a chance anyway, but PSU is out.....they lost to Weber. Larry is discussing playoff stuff right now. It's going to be 6 from the CAA and two from the BSC.

Interesting, Idaho got in at 6-5 in 1995 as the second team in from the BSC. I really wished we would not have screwed the pooch against PSU.

Looks like JMU will be the last team in at 7-4
They will have the same number of D1 wins as us...if we win this game.

No, they have an all DI schedule with UNC, CCU, and Liberty OOC. Delaware would be the 6th CAA team in but they only have 6 DI wins. So I see 5.

What conference is Central Connecticut in? http://www.northeastconference.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
answered my own ?? I do not believe they are D1 and Central Connecticut is one of JMU's wins.

The NEC is DI with an auto bid.

The game that will haunt us is the Montana game. They played awful against us, but we just kept matching their shitty play with shittier play of our own. Remember that "jump pass" on 4th and about half an inch that got picked off and ran back? We made so many boneheaded mistakes in that game and still were right there to win it if we only made a single play late.

Given how many times we've played our best games against the Griz only to see them make one extra great play or get a call, it sucks that they actually giftwrapped one for us and we didn't take it this season. A lot of old Eagle football players I talked to were stewing about losing that one.

Still, the 4 games walking of the plank to start the season just didn't work out. Hopefully, we'll learn the lesson... but I fear we won't. It'll be interesting to see what Chaves does on the Admin side to shake things up next year to ensure we don't have two FBS opponents on the road back-to-back and fix the problem of us not playing at home until week #5.

It's official, we're out. Just watched the selection show on ESPN. Next year....

Montana (seeded 4) and Montana St. (unseeded) are in the same bracket and have the potential for a semi-final matchup.

North Dakota St. is the 2 seed. Someone please beat them early!
