Athletic Facilities

Yes.., ticket sales, concessions, advertising. All terms and conditions we hope he has plans to lock into our contract.
Don't forget parking, that will be a big ticket item that is negotiated on. All of the revenue streams will have to be negotiated and ultimately whatever revenue projections from events at the CE venue will have to make the CSU bonds pencil out or an agreement and subsequent project isn't happening. Both Sac State and CE have a stake to make this agreement beneficial to both entities as Sac State can revert to an on-campus option (which is probably dead in the water) and CE will have to find a new primary tenant (probably horse racing again). We'll see what, if anything, comes together over the next 6 months.

I’ve never been to Cal Expo Grand Stands so for those of you that have what kind of facility are we talking about at this very moment? Are we probably putting lipstick on a pig? Or is there a real chance here to truly make this feel like a real college football stadium?

Given Dr. Woods comments about conversations happening since January I’m surprised there has not been any leaks prior to this month, and I wonder if populous is now just completely off the table or if they will have any involvement in what is built at Cal Expo.

This whole year I feel like I have heard Dr. Wood use phrases like “cookin” and “big things ahead” which have led to I feel like what most might call letdowns, and he stated again that they’ve been cooking things up and there should be exciting news over the next 1 to 6 weeks. Oh boy…
Depends on how much money they are willing to put into it. Lots of concourse space and open space around the grandstand to work with.

Mark Orr confirmed an initial capacity of around 25k with future expansions to 50k or more. Mentioned tailgating would be a key piece to the new stadium given the amount of space and parking available. Sounds like we haven’t paid for any architecture work yet, which was a curious tidbit. If we don’t have formal plans yet, how the fuck we’ll be ready for 2026 is beyond me.

In the interview with Dr. Wood, he asked about the status of football going to FBS, or more specifically, moving football to a FBS conference, and he said there would be new "information this semester, but not towards the end of the semester," and again emphasized the FBS or bust.

It's not Sac State's facility so CE would have to commission any movement on formal plans and designs. Not sure why anyone would move forward with those prior to yesterday's initial agreement. If games in '26 happen it'll likely be the grandstand with maybe a fresh coat of paint on it and a field slapped down in front of it. Not really an enticing image to lure in fans.

This was the biggest tidbit in the whole interview… conference USA for football only… book it.

It gets them into the western time zone.
With Conference USA, currently at twelve, losing La Tech to the Sun Belt and UTEP to MW, and being down to 10 by 2027, it seems likely that Tarleton will be granted full membership.

But would they stop at 11?

Adding Sacramento State for football as an insurance option is possible, given the looming prospect of future realignment. The ACC could lose Clemson, FSU, Virginia, and UNC, and may look to poach from the American Conference, which in turn could do the same to Conference USA, for example, like Liberty, who is ambitious.

It appears to be the most accessible and viable path for Sac State.

Wood said everything will be modular. Doesnt take Leonardo de Vinci to design dropping off a trailer behind an 18 wheeler. Get ready, a temporary modular facility, off campus for the next 30 yrs. Woohoo!

Modular seating, just like home!
Modular bathrooms, Modular concessions, Modular Offices, Modular weight room.
Everything can presto magic disappear within 24 hours.
