Athletic Facilities

I agree it is still one of the best deals in education. Just pointing out some people will just look at the percentage increase and not be happy with it.

The transfer to another CSU is an option yes, the CSU charter emphasizes serving the local population. This includes lower entrance standards. Most CSU’s even have some guaranteed admissions for local high schools, just maybe not into impacted majors.
It’s time the CSU redefines itself. It is not 1962 anymore obviously and the state JC’s now fill this role. UC’s have too much power through unquestioned guaranteed funding. CSU funded just like the DMV. Why can’t CSU offer terminal degrees, why can’t CSU be residential in nature, why can’t CSU have extensive research?

Because the California Master Plan for Higher Ed restricts what they can do by assigning certain functions (like doctoral programs/professional schools and research) to the UC system. Over the years, the legislature has been slowly loosening some of the restrictions, but it's not nearly enough. Even then, campuses like SDSU have managed to work within the current system and achieve R1 status. SJSU can be next to achieve it if it manages to award enough doctoral degrees in the next cycle, since they already have more than enough in research expenditures.

Edit: the residential part is purely a historical remnant where most CSU campuses were in or near cities and served a commuter student base. Again, certain campuses have made much more of an effort to shed this image than others.

Obviously, I think we are all hyper focused on just wanting to see a stadium get done regardless of location at this point. But I would really hope to see a true long-term master plan for Hornet football facilities. A true long-term commitment to not just a stadium project but at some point now that we are FBS our facilities in general will have to begin to get a facelift. If our hope is to one day be a PAC school we would need some serious improvements to The Broad and our locker rooms to compete against the teams in our conference for quality.

Nothing in the CSU BOT March agenda, so nothing is gonna get done until at least June/July. Time marches on.

Need shovels in the ground ASAP. Something about how quiet things are makes me think things are in motion. Sort of how quiet Wood got last fall when the MAC invite was falling into place.

Some chatter about the location being the Republic FC stadium. But that doesn't work if the stadium maxes out at 20k and is soccer specific in design. You'll never make it out of the MAC.

I wanted to post this on the new site but I seem to be having trouble just even signing in over there constantly. It’s odd.. I even had to change my username. Anyways I try and keep in contact with Dr. Wood for information on any Stadium news. I sent him a screen shot of a conversation some were having about the Cal Expo stadium not happening and all the things that were being said. I then asked him this “Good morning Dr. Wood, is there any information coming on Stadium at CE and when will the temp upgrades start at Hornet Stadium. Some fans beginning to question stuff cause it’s quiet.” He replied “ Update announcement planned for late this summer. You’ll be happy.” Some fans believe they end up at the new Soccer stadium. I honestly believe they are really working on CE site and something is about to be announced.
