Per ESPN and whether that may vary or not, still awesome that we packed Roos for a non Montana school game. Such an improvement from when I started going to EWU in 2007. I love the atmosphere at the games now; tailgating is packed, tons of people are coming out and supporting the boys. This is how it should be.

Also, the new lot behind the stadium is awesome!

Go Eags!

100+% attendance... very nice! If you guys have pics, can you please post them.. especially the new areas.. thx :thumb:

9,734 for Weber.
10,235 for SUU.
MSU should draw an even bigger crowd.

Can't remember what the number was for WOU before school had started, but it wasn't all that great. Take away that game and we're averaging almost 10k for the season.

WOU (6349) will bring us down considerably, unless we can get around 10k for MSU and PSU.

We should. The MSU game is already sold out and we should get a good crowd for PSU since it's the last regular season home game.

On another note, didn't we get close to 12k against Montana in 2010? We don't we bring in more seating instead of having to turn people away? I know several people who cannot get tickets to MSU.

Me too. I think we could get over 12k

I remember buying tickets just before the 2010 griz game and sitting on temporary bleachers near the track just diagonal to where the band sits now on the north end zone. I wonder if temporary bleachers could be put on the east side near the north end zone.

Was there bleachers on the South end zone where the wine-and-dine tent is now?

IIRC, there were. For that game there were definitely more temp bleachers set up than there are now. As you mentioned, they had diagonally facing bleachers set up in both end zones. Can't put the diagonal ones in the south end zone now because of where the beer garden thing sits now.

The last regular season game last year (UC-Davis) was one of the worst attended... think there was 6-7k there.

We could build a new building on the east side that would hold about 10k fans to bring our seating total up to maybe 18k. It could also have new locker rooms, athletic offices, some public space, some retail and lots more. And maybe we should call it "The Gateway" i.e.gateway to the university.
If you build it they will come!

I'm planning to head over to Montana for the game. This is my first time going to watch a game in washington grizzly stadium is it nice? I've heard it can fit up to 26,000 in it that is pretty impressive for an Team in the FCS.

WGS isn't fancy compared to the FBS stadiums like uDub or even Wazzu, but it's the cream of the crop in FCS. It's simple metal bleachers throughout the entire stadium with the exception of the club level seats that are the newest addition. Yes, it holds about 26k and it gets loud, although not as loud as Griz fans claim. All in all, it's the best at this level and it'll be even better to hear it dead silent this Saturday.

I would not agree it is the best in FCS. Having been to North Dakota and NDSU recently I know Wa Gz is behind them. It is very plain yet when it is full any stadium looks good. Having also been to Ap State that is better as well. My understanding is that JMU also has a better facility.
So there are better facilities around FCS but not many that pack them in like in Missoula.
If the Gateway gets built as drawn it will be the envy of Big Sky and almost as good as any in all of FCS.

At 18,000 our stadium wouldn't be one of the biggest in the FCS but the AD stated that it would be one the top 5 im terms of quality. Can't wait to see this become a reality.

You are out of your mind.

EagleNation, glad you're making the trip to Missoula for the game. You'll love your experience. WaGriz is truly the best atmosphere at the FCS level. Fly your colors and hit the tailgates. You'll be welcomed.

We are all entitled to our opinion. Personally, I agree that WAGS is somewhat overrated but the Griz faithful will never admit that anything could compare so why waste time arguing. It's kind of like arguing who's the better composer, Bach or Mozart; better scientist, Einstein or Hawking; better artist, Rembrandt or Van Gogh, Kidd Brewer or WAGS? - everyone has their own opinion.

As for flying your colors, EagleNation, I'd use some caution with both my vehicle and person. While most fans will be just fine (just like most of ours) there's always those few, usually young and drunk, that can do outlandish things. Of course, once again, no Griz fan will ever admit such a thing ever happens.

Can confirm this. One time while visiting Montana, I walked into a Target with an Eastern shirt on.

Some lady (40s, 50s?) yelled, "Go back to your f*#&%( ugly turf!"

There are jackhole fans in every population. I wouldn't risk my vehicle going to such a high stakes game. Try to keep the Eastern vehicle-ware to a minimum.

Making the comparison to fine art is quite a stretch, more like debating whether Keystone or Natural Light is better.
It is interesting that a person that has probably never been out of Missoula county knows which venue is the best in the nation.

I've been to Missoula three times for games and had a good time each time I went. Sure, there are some simpletons there, but it is par for the course. Unless you're amongst the uber-sensitive it really isn't that big a deal. We have those type of folks as well at our games.

Perhaps the most ridiculous response I've ever read. And I read bcn. :o

First, I live in the great state of Washington. And I've traveled to all 50 states and all 7 continents. Not that that is really worth two $hits either way when it comes to ranking football stadiums.

Second, I've literally BEEN to each of those stadiums you referenced, because the Griz have played games in nearly all of them. I went to the JMU game when Montana beat Super Man to go the finals: I was in The Rock last year. I was at UND the past two years. And I used to go to NDSU games fairly regularly when I lived in that god awful state for a brief spell.

And none of them compare with WaGRIZ. The Rock is close -- very close -- and may even surpass WaGriz but for the track surrounding it. JMU has grandstands and a track. Not even in the ball park. UND?? Please. That's not even the 4th best facility in the conference. The Fargo dome is a fine facility. But it's a dome. A stale dome at that. And not even on campus. No domed facility not on campus can compare with WaGRIZ.

Wear your colors. Unless you're a complete dick (and yes, your fanbase has 'em), you'll be welcomed warmly at the tailgates. Yes, we have our share of idiots, too; just ignore 'em. That's what I do when I'm in Cheney.
