Bad start for men's basketball

I know all about all the injuries we're dealing with before the season even started, but geez. Losing to Seattle Pacific (D-II) in a home exhibition game..............really? Might be another long year for Eagles hoops. (hope not)

How discouraging is this? 1) Injuries again 2) letting a DII player score 38 points on DI players(no matter what the injury status is) 3) losing to a DII team(no matter what the injury status is). 3) Thinking already that this is going to be a long season again(no matter what the injury status is).

I went to the game last night and the offense looked pretty bad without a true point guard. There was no movement. Also, the defense was really bad! We looked slow! The point guard for the Flacons was just too fast for our guys. We tried to put TJ on him. That was not good.

We do have some athletes on the team though. After we were down by 17 points early in the second half, the D stepped upped and three players on the offense decided to show why they are playing on a D-1 school. TJ, Cliff Colimon, and Kevin Winford all stepped upped. Colimon, a JC transfer and Winford were the only
guards that we had to play the point last night. Neither are true pg. You can tell that Cliff is a 2 guard. I would say that the season is not lost yet if we can get healthy and that these players can learn to play with each other. IMO

How many players are out, and how many are supposed to be returning for the majority of the BSC schedule?

From what I understand, there are 3 injuries. Forbes, Dean and a freshman who was expected to contribute this year. Forbes will be back on Monday, Dean will be reevaluated soon to see if he is out for the year or if he can come back in time for BSC play. The freshman is out for the year and will be redshirted.

I'm really confused as to why we kept Earlywine for another year... it's like rinse, wash, repeat.

Every year we start the season with about half a roster. I just don't see any signs as to this thing getting turned around. Hope I'm wrong.

Well, Seattle Pacific beat Nevada Saturday night, 84-81. And they did it without one of their starters because of an injury suffered vs. EWU. The Banchero kid scored 33 to lead SPU, after getting 38 vs. EWU. I don't know why Big Sky schools missed on that kid (he's from O'Dea High in Seattle), but he was obviously the best player out there in the SPU/EWU game and must have been again on Saturday at Nevada.

While I agree that a D-1 team should not lose to a D-2, the fact is that SPU has a good team regardless of classification. That EWU stayed as close as they did, minus their two best players, could be seen as a positive. Guess we will know for sure at the end of the season in early March.

Well it looks like we have some players back tonight. Let's see what they can do when they at their right position.

Was earlywine down at the bar during the game? He does know we are supposed to beat the teams from lower divisions right? Thanks for scaring off all our recruits and turning us into a losing program mike burns and kirk earlywine...ewu had a very good basketball program when I was at ewu...looks like we are headed for another 20 loss season

Hard to watch last night. I gave them two games and that was really tuff. EWU could not buy a basket in the paint at all. Fundamentals are lacking and so is toughness! They play hard for 5 minutes an take 10 minutes off. They were without a true point guard last night and it showed. Hopefully, they can mesh together and win a few games before the BSC.

Looks like Dean will be back in two weeks!! That is great news. Cliff Colimon is doubtful this Friday, but should be back next week in time to play UW.

EWU is lacking several things: 1. A healthy Point Guard 2. Fundamentals (time to go John Wooden on their ass's and teach them how to put their socks on and dribble a basketball without carrying it) 3. Toughness (not a lot of hustle, TJ dogs it up and down the court unless he is scoring) 4. Leadership (no pg is hard to have a leader but the kids need to have the personality of their coach, don't see it). What they do have: Length, long arms, lots of bounce off the floor. They have two legit scorers with Dean and Johnson. 8 people deep. An easier schedule compared to the last 2 years. If we do not win enough games to make the Big Sky tourney, it is time to change leadership and end the transfer U cycle with someone willing to build a program. Hironoka (misspelled), if you hear me, please help us...

and we should have done that before we resigned our drunken basketball coach.
