Baseball opening series

Just thought you might like to know that the Lobos of New Mexico have just finished taking 2 out of 3 from the number one Texas Longhorns. Impressive indeed! A fair showing against the Loobs (not a typo) would go a long way to add to the Bears' program.

Our team has done great against some top ranked teams but we just don't seem to have the pitching to consistently win. I don't know anything about baseball but it seems like a few quality pitchers could make us competitive with any team in the nation.

It's always about pitching. Plenty of hitting to go around in D1 baseball but premier pitchers are hard to find. In the WAC most of the teams can stay with top programs but pitching and pitching depth is lacking and that's one of the reasons only one team got picked to go to a regional last year. This same depth will enable the top programs to end up in Omaha and win out. That's why it was so beautiful to see Fresno State win it all two years ago. They are the class of the WAC and usually have the best pitching (except last year when it was SJS). Same this year. We'll see how it all pans out.

More on pitching. This works only in baseball but a good pitcher on an NAIA or D3 team can dominate a fair to good D1 team which would never happen in football nor in basketball. With, say, a Tim Lincecum pitching for State Tech Institute how many runs do you need?

Looking at UNC's roster they do have quite a bit of lefties, and two of them are 6'7", but ya pitching is everything. I know in high school all you needed was one dominate pitcher, and you could probably take state or come pretty damn close.

So does anybody know if we should be excited about any of our pitchers? It would be awesome if baseball could have a surprise year like basketball and volleyball have had.

I have no in depth info about the current pitchers, the only one I've heard about is that Scott Cure from Hutch CC, looks like he spent a year at K-State too. I remember hearing about him when he was still in high school. I know Wallace pitches too, but I don't know how much UNC is going to use him there.
