Bears vs EWU Gamethread

I wasn't able to watch the game but was able to catch the last drive by EWU. Gotta say, super impressed that we were able to hang with a top 10 FCS team, and even be in a position to win it. The offense really seems to be clicking.

The only person here that isn't a damned asshole.

Slenz, Blofed, and Bear Fan, ...if we won every game by 20 you would still find something to complain about. There have been a lot of good things this season, and, we are progressively getting better. What a great game today. Even though it was a heart break ending, it was a great game. UNC special teams #1 in Nation. What a a great honor. If we continue to play as we did the last 2 games, I'm guessing there are at least 2 or 3 wins left this season.

Thank you, and Brian as well, for bringing some much-needed perspective and being rational. This team that has been awful for the past decade just took the No. 7 team in the country down to the last play of the game. Sure, losing is a bummer, but that was a damned fine effort and the Bears have nothing to be ashamed of. For the sake of reasonable discourse, not to mention the team, I'm glad you're willing to give them the credit they deserve.

As for the folks you mention, Slenz, Blofeld and the like, y'all are a bunch of no-good, bitch-ass haters that want to see this team fail so you can continue constant bitching and moaning because you've got a personal vendetta against somebody. Guess what? We know what you think and we're sick of hearing it. FORGET YOU. GO AWAY. GOODBYE.

What, are you 12? "Bitch-ass haters"? There is one person on the team that I dislike and its Collins, and because of his demeanor and coaching record and I have all the rights to be.

Fact, since I first attended UNC I have yet to see a winning season.
Fact, while I was in school I attended all home games, and a few up until I moved out of the state.
Fact, I would love if this team won- that's the reason I tune in.
Fact, I was heartbroken when the team lost today and that field goal went through.

Honestly, you coming in here and name calling and not actually bringing any constructive posts to the game thread is pointless. I have every right to be cynical about this team and not be all sunshine and roses. There are a lot of people like me who are frustrated by this team, and you can see that by the low attendance and lack of enthusiasm in the community (especially the student body), but I'm still hanging around and participating with fans and watching the games. And your suggestion is for more fans who are disgruntled to leave. You have every right to be optimistic and happy, but you have absolutely no right to criticize and name call those of us who are not.

"Perspective" and moral victories have been the norm for way too long now.

This game was the quintessential example of that separates winning and losing programs.

People get all butt hurt that everyone isn't all excited that they almost won.

Face it, we were losing close games 8 years ago when Downing was here.

Until you actually win these games you are still a losing program.

There is a culture of losing here. If the tables were turned EWU would have blocked the kick, UNC would have missed the kick, or they would have intercepted a pass, caused a fumble etc... bottom line this is a losing program with a losing culture and 8 years from now do you still want to talk about "oh they played hard and almost won?"

When you accept and justify losing you only perpetuate this losing culture.

Winners don't talk about "oh we almost won" and instead they just win... sort of like EWU did...

You are right gobears2010, I am a hater I hate Collins, but you are the bitch. When we lose he always has an excuse. After this team beat Davis who didn't even show up, Collins was gloating. Do your 1/11, that is the dumbest thing I have heard. This is a team of about 90 players.

Not to sound too much like a moderator, but can we quite with the personal attacks? Stick to talking about the good and bad of UNC sports, have constructive debates without the name calling?

Collins sucks and shouldn't be the coach here. And who cares if we almost won. Almosts don't mean shit and screw that moral victory stuff. The one thing that I realized is that the Attendence absolutely sucks. Saturday there were almost no students at the game and almost more ewu fans. I don't know who is to blame for this whether it be the AD, Collins or the marketing. But that was flat out embarrassing, especially against a great opponent.

I agree with Brian here! That son of a bitch cunt gobears2010 and mccandyvagina need to go when Collins goes. He's gone at the end of the year no matter what. I think once the season is over we have a death match at Monfort park anchorman style.

I'll bring my trident.

We were lucky to have it close. Two special team TDs and a tipped pass to a receiver for a TD, that ran the wrong route. Bottom line is we will be 10th or 11th in the BIG Sky at the end of the season, and we will be stuck with Collins for another year.

How are the two special teams TD's "lucky"? We've got two of the best return men in the conference.

Our return guys aren't the only ones with 4.3 speed. How often do you see kicks run back for TD's? We shouldn't have rely on special teams and defensive TD's to win games.

There's another team in Colorado coming to mind that has gotten to 6-0 relying on special teams and defensive TDs to win games.

I also agree with you on this Brian, however I believe that numbear1 needs to shut his cock-holster. That being said, UNC has covered the spread 4 out of 6 games this season (no line on the first game). We were 17.5 dogs against EWU and almost got the W. We were picked to finish last in the conference, and obviously we will finish above that. We have the #1 special team unit in the FCS. Any way you look at it, this team is exceeding expectations and moving in a positive direction. Its time to stop tearing them down and start building them up.

Bear Fan,
I do not agree with you about being "lucky to have it close." Special teams is 1/3 of the game and our special teams outplayed the EWU special teams. Spectators need to understand that there are numerous small things that are happening all the time during the course of a season (meetings, practices and in games) that actually determine your so-called "lucky" plays. Even former players tend to forget about these "small things."
Speaking of Special teams, I think that the improvement of our special teams is an indicator of how Coach Collins is improving as a head coach. Though Collins was not ready to be a head coach at UNC when he was hired, I believe that he is getting better, as evidenced by his hires in Coach Kerr and Coach Cummings.
Unfortunately he has not done a good job in hiring a capable OC. If Collins is to be a winning coach at UNC, then he needs to find an experienced OC with experience and with a winning resume (e.g.like Kerr and Cummings). Boyer has had 7 straight losing seasons as an OC (3 at D-2 CMU and 4 at UNC), and it shows. At this point in his career, Boyer is not a winning OC! If he intends to stay in coaching, he needs to re-evaluate his abilities and realize that his employment as an OC at UNC has not been successful and he wants to get better, he needs to leave UNC. I believe that if Collins gets rid of Boyer, UNC will have a much better chance to be a winning program.
Speaking of Boyer, I believe that his lack of time management skills definitely put our kids in a disadvantage to win this past Saturday. His use of Tempo just before halftime allowed EWU to score just before half. We should have had a lead at halftime. And he still is responsible for getting the plays in late that result in delay of game penalties.

Wow. I have not been on the Board for a while, but I can see that the level of discourse has sunk to a new low. Obscenities and personal attacks apparently pass for debate these days... pathetic and sad... the children need to go back to sucking their thumbs.

That said, I must say I was impressed that UNC hung in there, even though ECU has a well earned reputation for playing at the level of its competition. I am not sold yet on the Bears as their wins have come against some pretty miserable losing teams, but I not totally embarrassed by their performance either as has been the case for what seems like decades now. The Big Sky isn't exactly tearing up FCS either, so our conference and non-conference opponents are mostly weak. Maybe NAU, no for Portland... I worry though that the team will beat just enough losing teams so Dunn and Norton will come up with a justification for keeping Collins...

We will see what happens moving forward. Our trend has been to get blown out after these kinds of games and NAU has our number...

A trend? After these kinds of games? I don't recall us taking enough top 10 teams to the wire and losing in heartbreaking fashion to create a trend.

If there is one poster around here worthy of obscenities, it is you.

"These kinds of games" refers to close games little bear fiend... There, there... Here's your pacifier. Now it is time for your nap as you are apparently a grumpy little fiend.... You are so cute when you try to talk like a big boy...

Coach Collins must be afraid of this kid Boyer or just have zero clue how a good offense is coordinated. Does not add up how he talks about how young and talented they are but yet it's like they just discovered talent magically appeared in the locker room. They had a guy break V. Jacks records and have had players go into the NFL. What's different between those players and these? Doesn't add up.

After watching the press conferences for Boyer, Kerr and Collins, I was impressed by Collins acknowledging the impact that special teams Coach Cummings has had on the team. He also manned up by admitting that he should have defensed EWU WR Kupp differently at the end.
And Boyer...
He has no clue, and the players will tell you the same thing. Most of the players can't stand him, whereas all the players say that they will run through a wall for coaches Kerr and Cummings. If Collins fires Boyer at the end of the season, then he will truly show that he is growing as a head coach. I never thought I would have said that.
I think we can win consistently with Coach Collins, IF, he replaces Boyer with an experienced OC, AND he does the same with Dinky the strength coach. Those are the two weak links of the program.
