Big Sky Tournament - Boise

Go ahead and get to Boise! If your staying home because you don’t think this team can compete. I promise this team is playing with heart and tomorrows game will be a battle worth watching.

A swing and a miss. Didn't see much heart or a battle worth watching. Probably the most underperforming Wildcat team of the last 20 years.

Agreed. What’s even funnier is Coach Rahe lobbying to get an invite to the CIT or CBI after their worst loss in conference tournament history. Also made sure to call Montana a veteran team to justify having their butts handed to them.

Five more years of this brand of passionless and selfish basketball, and the Wildcats can move back to playing home games in the Swenson Gym due to lack of interest.

Rahe not only failed to see and correct the selfishness of this team throughout the season, he rewarded selfish players with playing time so he got a predictable outcome. Sad to see a formerly great program get embarrassed by Montana.

I feel bad for Braxton. He could have been used better and I'm sure this team of selfish quick shooting the 3 is not what he signed up for 5 years ago.

Agreed. Been thinking that all season and even into last season. I was very excited for Braxton to come to Weber and have been somewhat disappointed. It's really not surprising though that this coaching staff was more than likely not able to use and develop Zach to his full potential. The excitement of Braxton & Chapman gave way to disappointment and the thoughts of next year's version of the Wildcat post is just depressing.

Hey, what are you worried about? You still have oldrunner's favorite, Jordan Dallas....

Haha Olds has a hard time admitting when he is wrong about a player. When interest in a supposed three star player drops and they aren't getting any real offers, that's generally a sign that they're a bust. I never thought Dallas was D1 talent. Weber's problems run much deeper than missing on Jordan Dallas.

I’m sorry if anyone traveled to Boise for the Montana game on account of my optimism. I’m glad I went because I really enjoyed the win agaist PSU and Boise is a place worth visiting. I still believe in coach Rahe and the talent coming in. Maybe my expectations should be higher, but I don’t mind dancing every 3-4 years on average.

Well, Rahe is now averaging the Dance every 4.33 years. I guess you’re okay with being mediocre. I have a feeling you haven’t been following WSU hoops for very long. I also assume you don’t have a grip on the advantages that WSU has on every other program in the conference? You have seen how much Rahe makes a year compared to the other coaches? You have seen the dumps of Sac St, ISU, etc? Have you seen the recruiting advantages WSU has over the other schools? If you’re okay with being mediocre, they you’re part of the problem I guess. I feel bad you watched first hand that embarrassment of a game verse UM. We need a new coach with a better vision and passion.

This is the mindset that's killing the program. Instead, we should be expecting a WIN in the NCAA every 3-4 years on average.

This..... We have a drought of 20 years since out last win. In since then, we have only been to the dance 4 times. Rahe has been the coach for 13 of those years, with only 3 appearances. Since our last win in 99', we have been only once every 5 years, and that is not okay. Rahe hasnt had a seed in the dance better than 15, and obvious reasons are due to his lack of desire to play good teams, and never taking OOC games serious. He needs to build a better schedule, take games serious, quite recruiting kids just to show them the door at the end of the season, and quite telling everyone that only conference games matter, and dismissing in-state games are merely academic. The best thing to do would be retire. After no thought, I am pretty sure Rahe came up with #justweber. I think they break huddles with the chant, "Go Just Weber."

I'm glad you went and applaud your optimism and faith in Randy Rahe. Once again, I am not against Randy and feel he is a man of high ideals and character. I really like him as a person and feel he is a good coach. However, here are the facts when it comes to Weber State Basketball vs. the rest of the Sky.

1. Randy is paid almost 200K more than the Big Sky average.
2. Weber State has the absolute best facilities in the conference and that includes a brand new court at PSU. We have our own weight area for basketball and it is only a matter of time until we build a practice facility exclusive for basketball. But, along with basketball Weber has awesome overall athletic facilities. Thanks to Coach Graybeal, VP Tarbox, our coaches, and the AD.
3. We have the biggest fan base and with a little innovation and a lot of hard work, Weber could average over 8K a game. If you are the student leader of the "destruction" you didn't work very hard to get students out. Next year is a new year and you should start planning now. Start by getting a new name for your organization.
4. History is on our side and we have such an amazing legacy. The Sky, in the 70s and 90s was a far better conference than it is now and our average of going Dancing was every 2-3 years. At one time we went 4 years in a row.
5. No one else in the conference has the professional connections like Weber State.

I could go on, but due to the above 5 points, Randy should be expected to do more than what he is accomplishing. IN the same time period, how many times has Montana gone dancing? They now have more tournament championships than Weber. Something we should be absolutely ashamed of. Randy doesn't really have a plan for next year either...this is what worries me. Next year will be more of the same.

We, as fans, should expect more. He was given an 8 year contract. At one time there was talk that we were going to "follow" the Gonzaga model (I argue they followed the Weber model from the 70s). If you have followed Weber State Basketball for a while you would know that this program has always been at the top of the Sky; and that we aren't, when the Sky is bad, is frankly sad. I use to use Cravens as the example of what we didn't want, but he coached against far better competition than where the Sky is at now. If Randy played the same competition, would we see the same results?

I dare say no. I think if Rahe was coaching at the turn of the century, he would have been fired long ago. I am so tired about Rahe trying to recruit the next Dame. He needs to understand that basketball is more than just one player. I might be minority, but I would trade Dame's legacy at WSU for a few deep NCAA runs. Nothing recruits better than a proven team at the dance. Cravens was handed a team that beat UNC, and he did very little with it. Rahe needs to get back to the basics, if he still is the coach. He needs some hardworking players that want to be here. The Panos, Pattens, Harris, Henry type players. We have recruited all wanna be three point shooters and ball hogs. We need change really.

i went to boise. based on the team's results i didnt want to go. it sucked seeing our team get served by the griz. we had about 15-20 fans. it was pretty pathetic even as a 4 seed being 4 hrs away. ive never seen us have so few fans. i also attended 0 home games but heard this yr was unlike any other. i think boise is a decent place to host it if vegas isn't possible. weather was ok and it shouldn't matter if there isn't much to do because there are a lot of bball games and you are there hoping your team can make it to the final. overall attendance wasn't good but the crowds were huge compared to reno and at least felt like a real game.

2019 big sky champ game had 3,737. Arena capacity 5,300

i went the final 2 yrs in reno. reno my 1st yr was ok. it was fun to place bets on all the games then walk into the arena. :) but there were no people. it was like the purple & white game. the last yr in reno we lost in the quarter final. that was really lame and we were the 3 seed. we were blown out by unc in front of supposedly 1,100. we have finished the last 2 yrs being blown away by a big sky team.

2018 champ game in reno had 1,378. Arena capicity 7,000

i cant imagine going to boise next yr. the other regulars from reno also looked depressed. i am not sure they would return.
