BREAKING NEWS (for real): SMU QB Kyle Padron...

Kidding. :D Worth the read though.

http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncf/story/_/id/7552534/smu-coach-june-jones-right-let-players-transfer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Former SMU quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell transferred to Eastern Washington after losing his starting job during the 2009 season.

It worked out well for Mitchell, who won a Football Championship Subdivision national championship in 2010 and was one of nation's premier passers in 2011.

Kyle Padron is the latest SMU quarterback to transfer -- he's still looking for a home -- after losing his starting job during the 2011 season.

...

not sure about Padron but I am certain we will see another qb for spring ball either JC or FBS transfer. I would think they'd like to rs the Freshman and add a 4th Qb to the roster so that we are three deep for 2012 in that position.

Dude, wtf? Don't do that sh#t!
:D

It's slow as hell around here, need to liven it up a little bit.

Been following his twitter, nothing new yet in regards to visits or decisions. :|

Not surprising, though. Doubt we'll hear anything about any of this until it shows up in the paper.

I am thinking this is the plan. They are probably wanting to bring in another Qb with some game experience so that Merin can get the benefit of a RS. I gotta think that they would have signed two HS Qb's if this weren't the case. And it makes sense to bring in someone with experience who can compete right away for the job. Otherwise they are not going to be able to RS Merin as there is simply no way we could only be 2 deep at Qb.

when does Spring ball start? one would think the coaches would want to bring whoever it is in prior to then.

End of March. We'll hear an announcement one way or another before then, guarantee it.

Raises the question of whether or not a kid who potentially transfers from a school that is on the semester system would be able to make it out in time for Spring ball......

so what does everyone think? fbs or jc transfer or neither and the Merin kid doesn't redshirt so we have three active qb's for 2012? the suspense is killing me!

Well Baldwin has said that he'll be adding a 4th for sure, and possibly a 5th, so I'd say we're more than likely getting a transfer and Merin will be redshirting.

You open camp with all three, and only pull the redshirt(Merlin) if things go real bad. We have not used our backup QB much the last two years except for mop up duty.

We were attempting to redshirt BK his freshman year and then the injuries kicked in at WR and we pulled it after 5 or 6 games. So we always have options!!!!

That could definitely be a worst-case scenario option, but the reason we've never really used any backup Qb's since Meyer is the fact that we've been damn lucky not to have any lost to injury. You have your starter go down, you pull the RS off the Freshman, and you're still only 2-deep in that position, with your backup having zero playing experience outside of HS. I just think having only 3 QB's, one of which is a True Freshman, is not the ideal situation. Are RS players allowed to "suit-up" for games? I.E. - you suit them up in case you have to make an in-game decision to pull his RS? Just curious.

Been trolling the SMU board a little.....it seems Padron has a GF at TCU. Not sure if that would be a game-changer or not.

Either way, can't wait or some Spring Ball updates on how Vitto and Adams are progressing, as well as what the team is going to look like in general for 2012!

Sure RS players can suit up and think all do for home games and some even are on travel squad. I guess one really isn't a red shirt for sure until the season is over.

To be honest...I think we are going to be fine at QB no matter what....We have Herd, Edwards, and Kauf at receiver, any QB is going to love having those 3 to throw to. I can just see the play calls now...Herd go deep, Nick go deep, Kauf go deep, whoever has single coverage, the ball is coming to you. I think we will be just fine at the QB position.

We have to many great receivers for just just one QB, we need two.
We should go back to the wing tee but with a running back receiving the ball from center. Then he has a QB on each side that flares. He can run or pitch right or left to either QB, and if one of the QB's is a runner all the better.
I know, but it is silly season, isn't it?????

As long as we can have a running game early in the season, I'd agree here. In 2010 we were lucky enough to have Jones so that took pressure off Mitchell in the early season as he was still adjusting to EWU.
