Buy or sell;
Baldwin and staff will be gone before the Oregon game. After a NC run again in 2013 and VERY strong season in 2014 he will be offered the big bucks and be gone. Sad but true.

Going to sell that one for now. All that remains to be seen.

Buy or sell: EWU has a 1,000 yard rusher in 2012. :D
I think I'll have to sell that one. I hope it happens but I'm thinking we have become sooo focused on passing it will take some time to get the balance back. Old habits die hard.
Buy or sell, we'll have 2000 fans at the Idaho game.

Sell on 2,000 fans at the Idaho game. I'm sure we'll draw that many in Pullman the following week, though. But for a Thursday game in Moscow? I doubt it. Plus, never underestimate the apathy of NW sportsfans... I doubt Idaho has more than about 5,000 non-student fans at this game either. I'll bet they're hoping for 12-13,000 total gate.

Don't you mean after EWU Victory?, I will rush the field? Victory will be great, rushing the field "NOOOOOOO,
these bad knees wouldn't let me.   Vic

Oops, you are right. Should have typed "after the victory AT Idaho" Vic will rush the field.
Heck after that victory I'll carry you, that would be quite a sight!! well, maybe after the victory AT WSU!

That, or we could just rush the field twice, once for Vic. We have experience at that.

Games I most want to win this year... in order:

Idaho--- I still hate them from their Big Sky years... plus, they are still more of a regional rival than Montana so far as the local media is concerned. Lastly, I think our season really hinges on this first game; a win means momentum early on, a loss probably assures us of an 0-2 start and we'd even have a possible 0-4 or 0-5 start.

Montana--- beating the Griz is always a blast. I'm sick of playing them tough... time to go on a winning streak ala early 90s.

Montana State--- arrogant program that we used to stampede every year and have now, almost inconceivably on a historical basis, lost to twice in a row. The 'Cats aren't the Griz. Losing is unacceptable.

Portland State--- why? Because fuck them !!! I hate people comparing Eastern to Portland State and their shitty, no fan, no win program.

That's my exact list as well. Well done!

My list would be as follows:
Montana- Hate those bastards!!
MSU- lose to them 3 in a row? NO WAY
WSU- Don't care much for Moos and the pirate. Can't wait to see him come to Pullman, take their booty and run
Idaho- We get no respect from them so lets show-em what Big Sky football is nowdays.

Well, well, well. Aren't we a little pissy? I can only assume your venom stems from the fact that since 1968 the Vikings have won 56% in the series. Does it frustrate you that the mighty Eagles haven't been able to dominate the Viks, or is it that the Vikings are now in the midst of a serious upgrade and this upsets your perceived Big Sky perch, along with your butt buddies to the east?

You know what it sounds like to me? The blisters on your ass are beginning to fester from last year's spanking.

PSU got the best of us last year, that's for sure... but it certainly was no spanking. Now, 2009 and 2010? THOSE were spankings. :dead:

Yes Screamin Eagle, they were indeed spankings - but as the world turns (and indeed it does) the Viks will now be part of the upper echelon of the Big Sky for the foreseeable future. LDopa just needs to put this shit into perspective, and accept the fact that more than 3 teams can share the roost. Portland has arguably the most difficult task of attracting large throngs of fans because of the nature of the student body (avg. age is 28), a large metropolitan area with LOADS of things for people to do, the f****ing Ducks, and a history of average (Walsh) to below average (Glanville) coaching and support since it's induction into the Big Sky.

We VIKS haven't felt animosity or jealousy towards the Eagles because of their success, but have felt frustrated that we haven't had a coach that could raise the bar. Now we have that asset, and personally I consider it an honor to be considered on par (or close to) with EWU at this early stage of the Nigel Burton era. If LDopa can't handle it he/she needs to get out of the kitchen - cause it's gonna get hot!

Good luck, hope everyone stays healthy, and we'll battle November 17th.

Scooter, I don't have any animosity towards the Viks and usually root for you guys when you're playing one of the Montana schools. It's good that PSU is rebuilding the program and hopefully this will turn into a good rivalry.

You guys got the best of us last season, but I would hardly call it a spanking. You got the benefit of playing a team that was literally decimated by injuries by that point in the season.

And no offense to the Viks program, but I wouldn't put them quite on the same level as EWU's right now. We're talking about a program that has a National Championship, 4 National Players of the year, and multiple playoff appearances all in the past few years. I don't think that can be ignored.

Ranger pretty much hit the nail on the head. PSU is on the rise under Burton so far, but still no solid foundation yet. You guys had two (or was it three?) drop down games last year. Still middle of the pack IMO, but closer to the front of that middle pack (similar to WSU) than toward the bottom. It will be interesting to see if Burton can sustain last year's success with new key players this year.

Scooter... I get it. Portland State is like the bane of our existence. PSU will limp to a 3-8 season, but hold a win over an 8-3 Eastern team (which was the case in 2004). D-II Portland State beat us in '92 when we won the Big Sky Conference for the first time. For whatever reason, they just give us fits even when we are 4-5 TDs better on paper.

I don't like it when people in Portland compare all FCS football to that of PSU. They draw so poorly (the last time they played Eastern in Hillsboro, Eastern had about 50% more fans) and their basketball court (scheduled for improvement, thankfully) wouldn't even be above par for a high school gym. For a casual fan that thinks this is what the FCS looks like, it completely lowers the value of guys of this caliber.

We beat PSU in 2004. You're thinking of 2007.

Thanks for the feedback LDopa - guess after years of struggling, when you see the light at the end of the tunnel the last thing you want is someone raining on your parade. The addage "Don't hate me because i'm beautiful" should, in this case, be "Don't hate me because I want to be beautiful!"

Regardless, the issue with attendance really began after the jump from Div II to the Big Sky, in large part because of the springboard success of Oregon & Oregon State during that time. Because PSU has traditionally been more of a commuter school with few "on campus" students and more continuing education, it has lacked that away from home college feeling, and thus student involvement lacked. That means we have had to draw adult football fans, and many of those are also UO & OSU fans. The PSU Admin has done a very good job recently of building more dorms and attracting more 'on campus' students, but we still have a ways to go. It has also been the case that for decades the political pressures to improve academics has left little resources for the athletic department, and that is now beginning to shift.

The 43-26 win against you last year was special for us because we too had previously lost our RB (McCaffery) and a stud DL. We in fact ended up using DB's at running back by the end of the season because our backfield was decimated. This year we are very deep at all key positions, so we're excited.

Truth is, I actually like a lot of things about Portland State. Pokey Allen, for one. Guy is a legend, and of course, has ties to Eastern. Tim Walsh, awesome guy, bought me a beer once. Glanville? Glad you guys ran him out of town. I've never met Burton, but people say nice things about him and clearly he's done more right in two seasons than Glanville did in three (despite the UGLY truth that Glanville was 2-1 v. Eastern).

And yes, SE, I did mean 2007. The Wulff years... eh...

Portland State has access to fans that Eastern can only dream about. The entire population of Spokane County is only about 1/3 of metro-Portland.

I equate Portland State's football program to an ex-supermodel who developed a bad meth habit. I remember PSU routinely drawing 14,000 to D-II games and being the toast of Portland in the Fall. Then they joined the Big Sky and didn't really handle the transition up very well... the fans and media all turned away.

Now she's kicked the meth habit and is going back to the gym again. If PSU keeps winning, the fans will be back. The stadium is very nice and the proximity to downtown makes it an attractive Saturday option. I want to make sure she stays fat and in the closet shooting up.
