Canzano

I think that Oregon and Oregon State do not want to risk an upset early in the year. Both programs will have their struggles in the coming years. The Ducks are defiantly on the decline with the bowl loss to BYU. Despite the Duck fans egos they could return to the bottom of the PAC-10. Oregon State also was not a good football team until they beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Before that big win they were the BSU. Always at the bottom of the PAC-10. So even a potential loss to Portland State is a potential loss in fan support in Oregon. Not to mention they will never play the Viks in PGE park.

my thoughts exactly, I don't see alot of games with UO or OSU, I do know JG is going to keep bugging them though.

Canzano was just stirring things up. Some fun reading, but I really don't think Donald Duck or Bucky Beaver are that worried about playing the Viks.

It is a shame to see some of those large pay days go out of state though in a place where we are struggling for school funding.
Go Viks!

Yeah, I think he was just trying to stir the pot a bit. He was on The Fan today and caught a lot of flack from the idiots that host Primetime. They kept on focusing on the statement about the two D1-A teams in Oregon being 'afraid' to play PSU.

In my opinion, that's not at all what the column was about. It's like what bigvik said, it's about them playing other D1-AA teams (in the Big Sky Conference) and not playing PSU. Is it a matter of who will win? No. It's a matter of Oregon paying dollars to other BSC schools when their fellow in state D1 program could use the money. It's a point that most UO/OSU supporters won't understand unless they drop their egos on the comparision of a Pac Ten program versus a D1-AA program. It's not about that. It's about money going out of state for the same game.

Yeah, yeah, I know it's not D1-A and D1-AA anymore. ;-)

Canzano's got a couple other columns (the latest one on Zach Randolph specifically) that are really just desperate in attempts to stir the pot. I'm starting to think he's on the short leash at the O... and maybe the short bus.

Oregon has been nailed in recent years for strength of schedule at times when it could really matter.

Both Pac-10 schools only dip into the Big Sky these days when another game on the schedule falls through. Since these things are usually negotiated years in advance, it's not that easy to rearrange schedules simply to accomodate Portland State, though I do believe both Oregon and Oregon State have made that accomodation in the last few years.

All I can say is why the he_ll is OSU playing Idaho State this year? Those schools should never play another Big Sky school when they can schedule PSU.

Unless I'm mistaken, Oregon State will play PSU in '09. . .

EDIT: ok so it's '09 and not '08. . . /users/31/07/37/smiles/537744.gif

"m being told to "embrace" the bobblehead experience. So I'm going with it. Also, I've guaranteed the Beavers their largest Saturday crowd of the season... so in the spirit of Jerry Glanville bring 2-3 of your friends and be on your worst behavior on Saturday, or something like that.

Seriously.

Come on down. Love to see you there."

We should all try to make it down there for the JG press. Could be fun. :-)
