'Cats Lose To BYU

BYU looked damn good and made few mistakes. It really hurt us having Bullinger out for the game and Otis going down in early in the game and never coming back also was not good.

We did get to see Wheelwright play his first ever college game and he got quite a few minutes. He looks like he is going to be a good player for us. Dame had 10 rebounds and Wheel had 6. Those were the top 2 on our team.

I hate to say it but it was our best officiated game of the year I thought, shocking for what I expected. Low fouls in the game, lots of shooting. That is how it should be. BYU did nothing wrong and look good without Jimmy playing.

Any status on Otis?

Both our losses are too good teams, SMC has top 25 votes. I don't feel down about what I have seen so far. I wish we could have won but I'm very optimistic of what this team can be this year. It is still early, we have unfortunate injuries but they should have time to heal before conference starts. Gotta tear it up in conf.

We can still go 3-1 in the state of Utah. We haven't done that in a decade.

I hope Im not sounding like I have low expectations. It does suck really bad by lose to 30 to these idiots (byu fans).

Though 1280 the zone dropped to commercial during Rahe's interview, Arkey recapped saying that Mook is out with a knee - probably several weeks. (I really hate the streaming coverage and the disrespect 1280 shows with their commercial breaks - I hope this is not a long term association. I live in Brigham City - 25 miles from campus - and the radio signal is gone a dusk leaving me only streaming to listen. Not big time coverage by any means.)

I think you hit it right on the head. The officials didn't hand BYU this one, for a change. Weber flat out sucked. Terrible shot selection, and terrible defense, even from Lillard. Having both Bullinger and Otis out killed WSU's toughness. I was hoping this was going to be a big night from Mahoney since he got the start, but he looked like a scared little turtle out there among BYU's bigs. No aggressiveness on the glass or with the ball. So disappointed, even though I think getting a win there without Bullinger was a lot to ask, I didn't expect them to simply lay down and give up like that. That's all on Randy. I love the guy, but he's starting to build a reputation of not being able to win the big ones.

I am eh? Outside of Rahe's first season, list off all the BIG games WSU has won. He's good and the classiest guy I've ever met, but he won't be truly great until he starts winning a few of these games against bigger schools and FINISHES Big Sky tournaments. I can only hope he proves me wrong, but up to this point, he hasn't. :bad:

I never see half-time adjustments. I think he's too reliant on his sets. Don't get me wrong, he's a great coach, but we're not going to see the Weber magic of past with him.

i also blame randy that we had 2 starters go down to injuries so we lost the big game. he should have paused time to avoid them.

I won't go as far as to say that. I think Randy still has the potential to take Weber to great places, but you are right about adjustments. For the most part this season, WSU has been terrible in the second half. The San Jose State game really has been the only one where the Wildcats did what they needed to after the break, and that was mostly due to Lillard's herculean effort, not so much due to adjustments.

you give no credit to byu who played a phenomenal game.

Injuries are a poor excuse, especially because this has been a problem for WSU before either one of those guys went down. Randy would tell you that himself. He doesn't make excuses. However, Weber will certainly miss having those guys on the court until they heal up.

Of course they did. That goes without saying. God knows all the blowhard BYU fans and broadcasters will give them all the credit they deserve and some. I'm not interested in praising BYU on a Weber State fan board, I just want to vent about Weber's poor effort. :wall:

I give a lot of credit, but we lost by 30. That is getting taken behind the wood shed. I'm getting used to us being beaten like that against good teams lately, & I don't like that at all.

yeah played really welll defensively. game plan was smother damian, clog the lane don't allow him to drive,,,and make the rest of the team beat you. They were almost perfect shooting, a lot of weapons and he were cold or otherwise covered very well. BYU won, plain and simple.

It was like everyone was scared to get blocked. terrible shot selection, hesitation in the post, and bad passes. We needed to mix up the D a bit. Double the post and make them hit the 3 or outside J before we go back to straight up man.
And I agree, show me a big win and I will shut up. This game would have put us over the top and not only did we choke, we got ran over in the process..

It seemed to me that Lillard didn't really have control of this team today. It looked more like Bamforth was doing whatever he felt like and forcing a lot of things. I don't know if Lillard was trying too hard to not be selfish, but this is his team and he needs to own it from beginning to end especially for big games like this. The ball needs to be in his hands more often.

We had 7 assists to byu's 20!! last year we would swing the ball and pass for an open shot. not even a thought this year.. no one runs the pick and roll either, our big men stand at the top after they set the pick. pass pass pass and an open shot will come. even if dame drives and dishes or we post up and pass back out. This low assist numbers says that we are playing alot of 1 on 1 basketball...

I never thought we would win, but that was embarassing.

We have serious issues, and we need to sort them out now.

BYU played like demons last night, everything they threw up went in, hard to guard that.

Not having Bullinger was huge. I think BYU had something like 13 second chance points in the first half. With Bullinger putting a body on hartsock and fighting for the rebounds he usually gets, they would not have scored so much off of offensive rebounds for sure. Still don't know that we would have won though. BYU couldn't miss, and when they did miss, we weren't getting the rebounds.

Good hell, it was 1 game. this team isn't dead and DOES NOT have serious issues. Say what you want but WSU missed Bull and Mook.
BYU is hot right now and are almost un-beatable at home. How bout you all just chill, and realize this WSU team is still playing very hard and will be just fine.
How many teams will WSU face that have that many big guys that can shoot like that? NONE.
Big Sky Champs is all that matters. Win the Conference tourney and you go to the Big Dance.
GO WILDCATS!!!
