Chalk Talk: the Run-and-Shoot

Interesting article chronicling Mouse Davis and how the R&S is incorporated into the NFL on some level today

The run-and-shoot has no place in the current NFL, but many of its basic concepts are still used today. Every team has a four-receiver package and many, like the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals, use it frequently and with great success. But if you want to see the purest form of the spread offense, tune in to a Portland State game

I hope he is right, except for the 75 sacks in a season part

We will be the only team at any level using the R&S offense with no tight end, Hawaii will feature one next year.

I like the point that our D better be well conditioned, because they will be on the field a lot!

JJ has never used a TE consistently at UH. Only on a few occasions to confuse the defense or run a trick play! He also used our big fullback, last season, as an H-back and lined him up at TE for blocking purposes on a few occasions. I think we'll use a TE a little more this season as well as having Colt work under center but mainly for short yardage plays only. JJ will continue to have us in the usual 2 wideouts, 2 slotback offense 95% of the time!Last edited by on 2007-05-31, 20:17; edited 1 time in total

Yeah, especially that the time rules from last season were a one-and-done deal, we will return to the old rules, meaning longer games....
