Any thoughts on who might take Petersons job?

As great as they have been not so sure they are a huge step up. Also you have to ask yourself what is left in the cabinets before you would consider taking this job.
FINALLY . . . It is still Boise. I enjoyed my short stay their, but it's still Boise. . . . and last time I checked it is still in IDAHO. :coffee:

No question that this job is THE job for coaches from the FCS.
Having it open is scarier than hell in terms of losing Beau.

But like I've said all along with Beau.

1) Chaves, open up your wallet
2) Beau will be busy until early January and most schools want to move fast
3) Beau and VA have a great relationship. Ala Saban and McCaron. It would take some kind of opportunity to make him want to leave before he sees just how far VA goes.

That said, I have no guesses as to who will be candidates.

Seriously???
In the article it noted Peterson would make 2,348,000. in 2014. I could live in Idaho for 1/2 of that even 10% of that. In fact 1/2 of Petersons pay would still almost equate to a 10 fold increase in what Beau makes now.
Scary but I wonder if a program like BSU would be willing to take a chance on an FCS coach.

Coach Harsin at Arkansas St was the OC at BSU and graduated from Capital HS in Boise and played at BSU and has indicated he wants to be back in Boise and back in Idaho.

Let's face it, Boise has had some missteps in the past few years with conference alignment, missing the chance to move up to Pac 12 and is now being hammered in recruiting by WSU, UW, CU, Oklahoma, USC etc... Every time they offer an outlier recruit, the big boys are back dooring them. It has got to be tiring with the elevated expectations. Not to mention asst coaches leaving every year, killing recruiting. Money isn't the issue, winning is the issue and Boise is struggling to reload at key positions like DL, WR and now O Line IMO.

Who should Boise go after? Former/current Boise coaches Harsin, Kiawatkowski or Wilcox? Take a flyer on old dude like Dennis Erickson (schnellenburger type hire)? I think young and hungry. Doubt the Boise fans think FCS is the answer per their board, they are talking Dirk Koetter (sucks). Desperation is a stinky cologne with that one. Who knows? I do believe that Petersen is a superior hire for UW and not a step back from Sark in any way. He will take them to the next level. Expect him to maybe steal Wilcox back or go after someone like Nussmeier at Alabama as Coordinator's. (pure speculation)

Ok when you put it that way maybe. . .only if he donates a mill to the gateway project as he heads out. . .but I honestly thinks and knows that he will never coach for a Chipper there . . .as a coach that is what would drive me . . .as well as the :twocents:

Perfect spot to transition to !! Has School recognition nationally, great facilities, still could recruit the northwest and he would love the turf ! I hope not but he is up and coming and young enough to relate to players and family alike ! GOEAGS :twocents:

Or he could stay at Eastern and build an FBS-ready powerhouse over the next 10-20 years. Just saying. BSU has incredibly high expectations.

Just to be clear, Boise State is nowhere near meeting the academic requirements of the Pac-12, so joining that conference has never been an option. One of the deciding factors for the Big 12 schools staying put when they were extended an offer from the Pac-12 was that there would be no cost associated with adding academic programs and research money by staying put. Of the schools pursued by the Pac-12, I believe only OK State actually met the academic criteria of the conference. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Baylor fell short of what was required and would have needed to make a sizeable investment to join. Of the Western schools, only Colorado State is not in the Pac-12 and presently meets the requirements to join.

BYU could eventually be considered, as they are extremely close--- they'd only need to add a couple of programs to meet the criteria.

But Boise is not even remotely close...

Thanks. Nice synopsis. This type of administrative shit boars me to no end, so a concise explanation like this is welcomed.

Guess I should have made it look like this:

Let's face it, Boise has had some missteps (IMO) in the past few years with conference alignment and is now being hammered in recruiting by WSU, UW, CU, Oklahoma, USC etc... Every time they offer an outlier recruit, the big boys are back dooring them. It has got to be tiring with the elevated expectations. Not to mention asst coaches leaving frequently, killing recruiting. Money isn't the issue, winning is the issue and Boise is struggling to reload at key positions like DL, WR and now O Line IMO.

Fair enough. The fact is Boise is sort of stuck being barely more than a JC, and regardless of whether they win or not, conferences want to be relevant for more than just athletics.

He would be crazy not to apply and crazy not to accept an offer...unless he's truly committed to staying in Cheney for the long haul. BSU is one of the few proven west coast commodities outside the PAC-12 with the financial support, branding, and facilities to have a long term competitive advantage for both recruiting and winning.

That being said, I'd still be surprised if they didn't go after a name with FBS pedigree first. They obviously have the budget given what Peterson was going to make.

Oh...and x 1000% on opening up the checkbook. Beau should be one of the highest paid coaches in FCS and his assistants need to be paid enough to not want to jump ship - especially to another BSC program like Weber or UND.

The U has benefited more from these guys than the red turf. Sometimes you have to make a human investment too.

It will be interesting to see what the AD does here. FBS pedigree makes the most sense, not sure how many HC's in FBS who are being successful already would consider BSU a step up. Borderline names -- Bobby Hauck, Dan McCarney (North Texas, may be to old), Bob Marlin ULL? Isn't speculation fun?
