Collins is Out

“Northern Colorado (FCS): Update — We understand our information on Earnest Collins is premature. The football banquet is later today so stay tuned.”

Text of email:

Dear Fellow Bears –

After yesterday's football game, I met with Earnest Collins and informed him that he will not be retained as UNC's Head Football Coach. In his nine seasons leading the Bears, Earnest has mentored hundreds of young men helping them find success both on and off the field. He has been a great partner, a strong community advocate, and a leader in the athletic department. As an alumnus of UNC, Earnest has served his alma mater with pride, always putting his student-athletes and his university first. I hope you will join me in thanking Earnest and his family for all they have done for UNC. Click here to read the official release, which will be sent to the media shortly.

We will immediately begin a national search to identify our next head coach and plan to move swiftly in that process. Once we hire this individual, the UNC football program and its outstanding student-athletes will need your continued support.

Thank you for all you have done to support Earnest, his staff, and our student-athletes.

Go Bears!

Finally. He should have gone when Boyer was fired, because they were a 2 headed monster. They were vindictive towards the players and played favorites. I also believe there was some underhanded things going on, when it came to playing time. I know we are looking for head coaches that have proven themselves, but the administration needs to look deeper into the next coach. A head coach doesn’t need a position guru. He needs to be a leader that the players will respect and fight for. He should surround himself with good assistants and let them coach their players. Collins would meddle in every position and an HC can’t do that. He needs to focus on the overall team. Just saying Coach Armour is a strong coach, the players love and respect him and will walk through fire for him.

Celebrate everyone! I can stop updating that stupid thread of mine. I'm so very happy right now!

Thanks for maintaining that thread, it was a mix of fun and horrific.

Wish nothing but the best for the man. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere that he will succeed at. I met him only once, but he was very kind to me and my wife.

He will land on his feet just fine. I do not think anyone challenges his knowledge of the game, I just think his ability to recruit and see the whole picture as a head coach wast right for UNC. Timing is everything in this game. The man will land a group of 5 position coach gig and be making twice as much money in 12 months time.
