So nice to hear that we have added another alumni at EWU, good work Vernon. We wish you well this season with the exception of game one. You earned your degree, made some lifelong friends and certainly entertained Eagle Nation with some amazing plays on the football field. We all look forward to you joining and supporting the Eagle Athletic Fund once the paychecks start coming. The Big Sky will miss you but the PAC 12 is lucky to get you for one season. Our best to your family and young son. Go Eagles!

The announcement is supposed to be made on ESPN tonight and they currently have him on Oregon's roster. Either way it will be nice to finally have some closure to this saga and I'm hoping he has a great senior season.

As of 6:10 the Oregonian still says there is no word.

It's official...posted on twitter. Congrats Vern.

*Edit* Here's a link to an article on Oregonlive.

As disappointed as I was that he bailed on us to go with the ducks, I'm glad he passed his test and he now can get to work. He's got a up hill climb that's for sure. How about Eastern upsets the ducks and the following week they make Vernon the starter and they go undefeated from there on. I would be okay with that!

EWU got two more minutes of coverage thanks to VA on the Brock & Salk radio show this morning out of Seattle. Just great for recruiting. I am sure the same is true in the Portland area.

I don't think our recruits listen to the radio or watch the news on TV, they are into social media, where VA and EWU took a beating yesterday.

This was not good for PR from EWU or Oregon's side.

Yes, so glad this will help the recruiting for kids who truly have no interest in playing for EWU and are just using us to get to greener pastures.

VA is gone and has been for 6 months. Now he's just another Duck who won't win a National Title.

VA took a gamble on himself. It is that type of self confidence and belief that contributed to his success at EWU. I'm happy he's going to get a shot on the field and hope he's hugely successful (even though I don't care for how the whole thing went down and really hate the Ducks).

I also think Baldwin and company handled this as well as possible under the circumstances.

Onward Eags! Go Eags!

I too wish VA the best and am happy that we have another EWU alum. If football doesn't work out long term, he will now have something to fall back on. That's important and real-life! That being said, I believe that he has everything to lose and nothing to gain by starting against us in Sept. IF he does indeed start at QB, he will be expected to lead Oregon to victory against us by a wide margin. I know he won't be expected to carry the team in order to do so given how talented Oregon's O-line and running game is. What I'm saying is that if for some reason he goes out and throws 3 picks (against the team and coach that know him better than anybody) and turns it into a close game, those fans will be second guessing him in a hurry and EWU fans will have a huge grins on their faces. I personally don't believe he will start the game, but we'll see....

go eags!

So, this is the last time I will comment on this subject and I encourage others to do the same as I think it's time for EAGLE NATION to move past this.

First off, congratulations to Vernon for earning his degree. Above all else these guys are student-athletes who are here to earn an education and sometimes I think that gets lost. Being the first in your family to earn a college degree is something to be commended.

With all that being said, call me "bitter", call me "butt hurt", call me whatever, but it's going to take a while for the bad taste that's been lingering in my mouth for the past 7 months to leave. Everything from Dean Herrington's questionable involvement in dealing with the U of Nike, the media's biased slant and agenda, and finally Vernon's handling of the situation himself, has left me completely baffled and incredibly disheartened with college football in general.

And I can't help but feel that Vernon, at some point later on in life, will regret the way he handled things with EWU. No, I'm not mad at him for leaving, because every player leaves eventually and he fulfilled his end of the bargain by being a member of the program for four years and earning his degree (eventually).

Rather, by how he disrespected the coaches, administrators, fans, and fellow teammates at Eastern Washington by wearing an Oregon sweatshirt to an EWU basketball game, ignoring the local media, and never once coming out publicly and thanking the program that gave him a shot out of High School and the people that backed him for the past four years. By doing interviews with national media where he claimed his former teammates were "butthurt"...while at the same time never granting local media any access during the entire process.

Vernon, you recently said you "never wanted any of this attention", but you absolutely did. If you didn't, you wouldn't have gambled so big and risked almost not being able to play your Senior season. You absolutely wanted to be in the spotlight, and I guess I can't blame you for that. I just wish you could have handled the situation, all of it, a lot better than you did.
