I know it's easy for me to sit back in my lazy boy, while drinking a cold one and know exactly (ha) whats wrong each and every weekend.

But before (some people) start firing everyone in sight this week. Lets take a look at the game.

O-line-- very good game. At least a much better game. I even saw a few traps out there.

Receivers- very good. Rb's- very good. Good to see Andre back. Sewell even had a decleater on a defensive end.

Orms- impressive. Made the line look good at times. Best game I've seen him play.
Orms- more later.....

D-fense- much better. 92 had a crunch. J eddy had some fierce hits. Askew did his thing.
Hewitt- blew Jones up- what a hit!!

Did yall see Downing yelling? I liked it! Biddel was yelling and screaming. Emotion- finally...

Now for the bad points..
Special teams- load it up with your best players. If any of these guys are gonna make it to the next level. They'll have to play special teams then. Get them ready now. Cannot be a charity... Cannot continue to give away points!
I know the D got burned with a run blitz, by blitzing to the wrong side and giving up a long run. It's gonna happen.
O-line-- like I said earlier much better. BUT BUT BUT
when the game was on the line. 3rd and 12, 1:18 left, 28 to 28,
Yall choose to go 5 wide and not protect. Orms was stripped from behind with only 4 pass rushers and you all know the ending.
Go 3 wide- send out 10,11 and 25 and max protect!!! No reason for this team to send out 5 receivers......

Orms, Baca, Lobata- yall get together and find a play to audible to the next time your coach leaves you naked in the pocket. Gotta pull it off or you'll get some wrath. Pull it off and tell your coach a LB tipped a blitz so you audibled.
Peterson- called a great game! Until that last call. If you can't protect for it- don't call it.

I really thought DaBears would win this one. I was the only one to pick the Bears. Should've and could've but didn't.. On to next week!

Good analysis NewBearsfan. I like Orms play and I don't blame him for the lose. He's gotta protect the ball though. He made the offensive line look decent because of his scrambling ability. They're still really bad. I know we still lost but we played better than I thought and like I mentioned before I have an inkling of hope we could pull out a few more wins and possibly save Downings job.

Why on Earth would you WANT to save Downing's job??? The best thing that could happen to this program is for the current coaches to be shown the door.

Yeah, I am to the point where I almost hope we get destroyed so it forces Downing out. I hate the idea of us winning 2 of the last 3 games and having Jay think that the team is heading in the right direction.

Clean house is what needs to happen. What difference will make? We clean house and end up winning only 2 games next year, what are we gonna say? Downing would've at least gotten us 3 wins? I get tired of being in these close games and we never can escape with a win. Ya I'm glad to that UNC hung in there, but we shoud've won that game.

Tough game this last week, I though UNC was going to hang on for the win. We were in a similar situation with Moosh. He decided to get competitive in his final year of his contract and he pulled a 4-7 season out of his ass. Fortunately Wanless still made the right decision and got rid of his sorry ass. If you guys have an AD with any sense and a spine, he will see through the BS and make the right move which in this case (and ours 4 years ago) is to go in a different direction. I think you guys have a legitimate concern about Downing being extended. Given the economy and the tight budgets, the AD could take the easy and cheap way out and just stick with Downing. Hiring a new head coach requires a “nation wide” search as well as the AD and his collective staff to get off their asses and actually do stuff (interviews, background checks, etc.). Best of luck and you guys definitely have my sympathy. I hope you guys come out of this strong (just not strong enough to knock us off our upswing). Hang in there.

There is still a lot of football to be played. We still have what three more conference games. If we can win 2 of those games, I wouldn't mind seeing Scott back on the sidelines. Plus, South Dakota is a very winnable game.

No. No. Just, no. Under no circumstances do I want Downing as UNC's head coach in 2011. He has only two redeeming qualities: the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and the ability to have his team completely unprepared on gameday. He must go, and he must go NOW.

Being 8-43 doesn't qualify you to be a head coach anymore, not at the FCS level, or any other level. If it wasn't for Hinrichs getting rid of the Darnells, Downing would've kept them and we would've been even shittier than we are now. Guess where one of the Darnells is at? A CC, and looks like he isn't doing a good job there either. Proves Downing doesn't know how to higher a coaching staff. I'll give him credit for the talent he has brought in here though. I don't see us winning another game this year, I don't think we'll beat South Dakota on the road, I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it.

I have news for you. We don't have the money to hire top assistants. You think top coordinators are going to come here for the peanuts we offer? I'm doing my part and I upped my B and G donation in order that we might be able to get better assistants.

I know the easy thing to do and say is fire them all... BUT-
what does that solve?
Does that solve the bad o-line recruitment of Darnell for the last few years?
Does that put more wins on the board?
Does firing everybody make your special teams cover better?
Will the 0-line be magically fixed?
Like it or not- this team is close to being a good team.

With the dozens of seniors graduating and leaving this year-
You really want a whole new group of coaches in here?

Why not? Like I said before, what difference will it make if we decide to clean house? If we bring in a whole new staff, and only win 2 games next year, what are we going to say? Downing's crew could've got us 3 wins? Downing himself and the coaching staff, just haven't gotten it done, Period. I don't know any other college that would keep a guy that had an 8-43 record. At the college level its all about the Ws, and Downing hasn't been producing those. I know this team can be good, but thats the thing, if we're close to being a good team. Then why are we still getting the same result on the field? That falls back on coaching.

I'm not saying Downing hasn't done anything for the program, he has, but I think its time to move on and give the next guy a chance. I know we don't have the money or the resources to bring top quality coaches in, but when you're brought in to coach a D1 school, you're brought in the to produce. If you don't, you get your walking papers, it's just the nature of the business.

So you are aware that we can't pay top notch coaches. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE WILL BE COMPETITIVE WITHOUT GETTING BETTER COACHES. WE NEED MORE MONEY SUPPORT IN ORDER TO BE COMPETITIVE AND THAT MEANS GETTING BETTER ASSISTANT COACHES. THE STATE OF COLORADO AND ITS TAX PAYERS DO SUPPORT EDUCATION, ESPECIALLY HIGHER EDUCATION. THUS, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE JOINING THE BLUE AND GOLD CLUB. TAKE A LOOK AT THE BUDGETS OF THE CONFERENCE MEMBERS. MONTANA HAS THE BIGGEST BUDGET AND THUS, THE BEST PROGRAM. WE ARE NEER THE BOTTOM IF NOT THE VERY BOTTOM, ALONG WITH IDAHO STATE. THE UNIVERSITY NEEDS PRIVATE DONATIONS MORE THAN UM AND MSU, PSU, ETC. BECAUSE THOSE STATES SUPPORT THEIR UNIVERSITIES. COLORADO DOES NOT. WE NEED MORE BLUE AND GOLD MEMBERS IF WE'RE GOING TO BE WINNERS IN THE BIG SKY. THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE. IT'S ABOUT THE BENJAMIN'S.
WHEN AND IF DOWNING IS LET GO WE WILL NOT GET A GOOD COACH IN HERE UNLESS THAT GUY IS WILLING TO WORK FOR CRAP MONEY. I BET MONTANA'S TOP ASSISTANT MAKES WHAT DOWNING MAKES. WE'RE A LAUGHING STOCK WHEN IT COMES TO COACHES SALARIES. IT IS EMBARRASSING. I JUST HOPE YOU GUYS WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE COACHING STAFF ARE ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND GIVING TO THE B AND G CLUB SO MAYBE SOME DAY WE BRING IN TOP NOTCH COACHES. IF YOURE NOT WILLING TO DO THAT, THEN YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN!!!!!

This team is NOT close close to being a good team. It will NEVER be a good team as long as Scott Downing is the head coach. The man is a loser, he coaches with a loser's mentality and has brought a culture of losing to the program. While they may be talented, these players just don't know how to win. If they did, Saturday's game would have ended differently. The culture of losing at UNC has to end, and the only way to do that is get rid of the one who created and perpetuates it, and that is Scott Downing.

Not trying to piss any of yall off BUT
some of you donkeys are depressing.....

I don't know Downing personally- but to verbally bash him that bad
seems pretty low. I know I crossed the line once and talked bad about his ability to coach special teams.
BUT wow- yall are going overboard!

You really think you can just up and replace the new OC with somebody better?
You really think you can find a better O-line coach than Bedell? He has NFL experience.
He played under Alex Gibbs. Don't you think his recruiting abilities, with his background, might just come in handy- especially for this team/this school. All UNC fans should be kissing his butt.
You really think you can find replacements for your defensive coaches that can come close to the coaches UNC has currently?

THIS TEAM IS CLOSE TO BEING GOOD!

BTW- they didn't get beat by 100 like some of yall predicted last week.
They did play hard.
Offense did play better.
Defense did play well.

Scott Downing is 8-44 in 5 seasons as the head coach of UNC. I'm quite confident that I could have won 8 games in 5 seasons as UNC's head coach. Downing's problem is not recruiting or talent, he's a hell of a recruiter to get ANYONE to come here to play. He just doesn't know what it takes to get the job done on gameday. I'm sure he would be, and has been, a wonderful assistant coach, but he just doesn't have the mentality to be a head coach, not unlike guys like Dick LeBeau and Scott Linehan in the NFL.

The thing is, is just because we don't have money to bring in a top notch coach doesn't mean we still can't bring in a quality coaches. There's some D2 coaches that would take the head job at UNC with little pay increase just to coach at an FCS program and pretty up their resume. On the other hand there might be some assistants at an FBS program that would take a pay cut just to be a head coach. Look at Peterson, he might have been making more just being a recruiting coordinator at CSU, or the pay could be about the same. I'm not sure. Point being is Peterson has a pretty good resume (better than what was here before) and probably could've anywhere else but choose UNC because they offered him to be an OC. Same with Bedell, quality coach (pro experience) and didn't have to break the bank for it. We don't need a big time head coach right now that's going to cost a lot of money, we just need someone that knows what they're doing. Like I said before you have an 8-43 record over 5 years, you don't deserve to be the head coach anymore.

It was NOT Scott Downing fault that we lost to Sac State 3 years ago on a hail-marry and it wasn't his fault we lost on a similar play to UC Davis two years ago. It wasn't his fault we lost on a Bryan Waggener fumble on the last second of the game two years ago. It wasn't his fault that we lost on a bad special teams snap against NAU the same year. It was NOT his fault Dylan Orms fumbled the game away against EW on Saturday.

I named a lot of games there (I'm sure I'm missing some too) where it was just dumb luck we lost. Some games like Weber this year and Sac State this year where he should shoulder the blame.

I'll be honest with everyone that I'm on the fence with Downing being fired. I like Peterson and that was a good hire. Our offense has improved and he can recruit. Same with Biddel. Lots of mixed emotions right now.
