Dotson makes LA Chargers initial 53-man roster; Mapu makes the Patriots roster

Who knows how long this will last? Things can change tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. But Dot has made it for now. And that's quite the accomplishment.

There are several here at Sac Buzz that just knew there was no chance for Dot to make it to the next level. Who's laughing hard now?

Congrats Dot! The hard work and talent paid off.

Among the top backs in the programs history.

Also gotta give props to Marte Mapu for making the Patriots final 53. That was somewhat expected, as he was a 3rd round pick. Reports are that Patriots are very high on his versatility and he's looked good in training camp.

Also, as of 3pm I haven't seen DeAndre Carter's name on the list of cuts by the Las Vegas Raiders.

So it seems there are 3 former Hornets on an NFL roster. That's pretty cool.

Did I miss someone else??

I don't understand why the SID team is recognizing Dotson as a former Hornet in this weeks notes, but doesn't recognize DaRon Bland.

DaRon Bland was a massive oversight on my part. He was on the Cowboys roster last season (a starter IIRC) and essentially went the same path as Dotson. 3 seasons at Sac State then 1 season elsewhere. He most definitely should be recognized as a Hornet. That’s where he developed.

That’s 4 former Hornets currently on an NFL roster.

Dotson graduated and earned a degree during his time here before finishing his eligibility at UNC. This makes Dot a Hornet for life. I don't think that is the case for Bland.

Here is that magnificent thread. Another OSH banger. Not sure why anyone would count out a talent like Dotson. Glad to see he made it to the highest level. :notworthy:

Edit: Dot had 272 touches at UNC last year totaling over 1,567 all purpose yards. That equates to over 35% of all of UNC's all purpose yards last season. His gambit to showcase his talent paid off, no way he gets that many touches had he stayed here.

Yep. I remember. The dude that knows next to nothing always being critical of those that clearly have more of a clue than he does. It’s always easy to predict failure, as the vast majority never make it. It’s much harder to go out on a limb and predict success.

Moving along … it’s great to see the increasing number of former Hornets in the NFL. Who’s most likely to be next, Skattebo? Who else??

Bland was an NFL guy who moved on because we cancelled our season. Dotson quit on the team. I’d take Bland over Dotson based on that. Bland didn’t want to go but had to. Dot quit.

Skat isn’t a Hornet

Dotson graduated and wanted to play elsewhere. It worked out for him, so in hindsight he made the right move. I think we all would have loved to see him complete his collegiate career here, but he didn't, nonetheless he is a Hornet for life. His departure allowed Skattebo to step into the spotlight and shine. It worked out for the Hornets as well since we won a title in the year he left, and followed it up with another title last year.

Not sure why there is bitterness involved with a player deciding to move to a place where they perceive it to be a better opportunity. Given the portal and vast opportunities in the collegiate landscape, we all should expect more of this to happen with regularity.

Be bitter all you want, but he helped us get 2 more BSC titles. I hope he does well at ASU and makes it to the next level.

Hope he enjoys playing in a bowl game this year… oh wait.

Skat made it about him. We have guys who will take his place and be just as successful. He’s going to struggle at ASU. He abandoned a good situation for a pipe dream. In three weeks you’ll agree with me.

And according to ASU’s pronunciation guide he’s changed the pronunciation of his last name after already changing his first name. He is now Cam SKAT-eh-boo

Probably had a publicist tell him to do that. Like Joe Theisman changing the pronunciation of his name.

I specifically stated “former” Hornets.

I’m aware he’s at ASU now, but like Dotson and Bland before him he attended Sac State for at least 3 years and spent his formative seasons as a Hornet.

I get that they have other universities attached to their names now, but they still spent more time in the Hornets program than elsewhere. That qualifies them as Hornets in my book. Regardless, those that see it differently can’t deny that they were former Hornets.

I agree wrt to Bland.

As for Dotson, I don’t see it as quitting. No more than I’d agree that Skat quit by moving on.

Far as I can tell, Dot just didn’t agree with how he was being used compared to his usage under the previous staff. So he moved on to a place where he was used similarly as 2018 and his numbers reflect it.

Taylor’s goals were clearly different than Dot’s. Taylor was coaching to win titles while Dot was playing to advance to the next level. Both ended up getting what they wanted.

As a fan of the program, I personally didn’t agree with Dot or Skat’s choices to leave, but it was their choice to make. Not mine.

As you essentially said, “next man up”. The Hornets moved on and succeeded w/o Dot and they’ll likely do the same w/o Skat.

I’m excited to see what Fulcher, Tau-Tolliver, Moleni, Burnett, Borders and co. can do next season and beyond.

Dot left mid season. The paperwork would say that he quit the team. That’s why I said he quit. It’s factual.

Dot leaving midseason after discussing his role with the staff (and allegedly having a family issue) is indeed factual.

Positioning it as “quitting” is merely your opinion.

There’s a big difference there.

The NCAA compliance paperwork would say that he “voluntarily left the team”. To me that is the same as quitting. I don’t think that’s a crazy jump.

Without question I WAS WRONG...and I'm happy to be wrong. I sincerely hope Dotson has a great NFL career.
At least I didn't bet $100 on it and then welch. I'm curious SD, how come you never called Buckeye out for being wrong and not paying up on a bet that he called?

Why would I care about a bet I wasn't involved with.
