Dylan Garrity Nails Shot to Beat Weber

Hell of a shot, but got to say, your play by play man is a serious tool. Crying like a whiny bitch all night.

Check out your own play by play idiots that called the women's game today? Great effort by Dylan and the Hornets despite the poor officiating. That game should have never gone to overtime. It's one thing to get jobbed by the refs in football where there is no review. Another thing entirely to get jobbed when everyone sees the same review that the officials do.

Go Hornets

No, I don't watch ladies ball, especially Weber's ladies. But they probably did sound like idiots. And they were probably students. They don't play the ladies games on the radio. Still, no excuse for the way your radio man called that game. Would be surprised if he isn't reprimanded by the league. But then it's the Big Sky and nothing would surprise me.

exactly.

The Weber State announcers during the womens game were something else.

Saying that the Sac State women played horrible basketball and that any team could beat the Hornets. Did not make any sense. They were talking about a 14-5 team. So odd. Do not get it.

What an amazing finish tonight in Hornet Gym At LONG< LONG last the dramatic ending goes our way. It has so , so oftne gone the way of our opponent

Roll on Hornets!!

That was probably the most exciting basketball game I've ever attended and I've attended several hundreds.

I was dreading a usual outcome for the Hornets tho, losing at the end again and especially after Katz lost his cool and nearly cost us the game. Wanless wasn't very happy with his coach from my observation of him, but Weber State's coach made the same mistake a minute later and bailed Katz out. Wanless was even down on the floor pulling fans off the dog pile prior to the refs making a final ruling on Garrity's miracle shot.

It was a wild scene for sure. Berry deserved being the goat twice for Weber St (missing two of four free throws with 15 seconds left and then calling time out when they didn't have any left) for all the trash talking he was doing and gestures to the crowd; it came back to bite him in the end. There were over a thousand, probably 1100 in attendance; I don't think they counted all the late comers that filled in the student and G.A. sections after the game had started; certainly more than the 770 or so they posted.

I have to agree with SWeberCat02 about McElroy; he's the worst hoop's announcer I've ever run across in 50+ years of listening to games. I always look to find the opposing team's announcer's when Sac State is on the road or if I'm not attending a game & have to listen; he just doesn't have it & there's no hope for him to get better. The Sac State's women's announcer is much better. I do hate having to listen to that arrogant Montana play by play guy who acts like every shot they take is good, but I even listen to him over McElroy.

I just listened to the game and watched in the BSTV archive... If Steve was on Al Michaels' stage, then folks would have a complaint. Perhaps he did stretch the issue by talking about UM and Weber getting all the calls with the refs 2 feet from him... But, he's right! And he's the Sac State Announcer and he can be a homer all he wants. All in all, I thought he did a good job . But if you ask him, he'd probably go with a different game winning shot call. Something other than "godddddddddddddd!!!" Lol...

I watched the replay this morning…wow. Gutsy performance by the Hornets in a historic win. Great defense for most of the game. Not sure why Katz put in 2 cold players off the bench for that final possession in OT, not sure why they even let Weber get off a shot in that sequence but oh well, Garrity bailed us out last night. Great win, with the event center dead I honestly thought I would never live to see another win over Weber. Hats off to the coaches and players for this huge win. :notworthy:  :D

McKinney had a huge game and has continued the tear he has been on all season. Solid performance from Stuteville. He made some clutch FTs and some key shots and clutch boards down the stretch. If he can be less hesitant on his mid range shot and make more of them I think he will be a solid front court player for years to come. It would be nice to see him log more minutes, especially as Tiffin remains ineffective on both ends of the court.

WSU board is having a mini-meltdown over this game. Pretty entertaining. They are still in control of the BSC race so I think some of them are going a little overboard with the pessimism (yeah I know, look who’s talking).

As far as the calls go I think this was one of the more consistent called games. There were plenty of crappy calls to go around but at least they went both ways. I agree with TGH’s sentiments on McElroy but he only said what is on all of our minds. Granted it shouldn’t come from his mouth but rather on places like this board but I have a hard time disagreeing with most of what he said. It looked as though McKinney was fouled at the end of regulation, and I agree with McElroy that WSU and UM get that call. I think McElroy’s rant was mostly just pent up frustration of the crappy BSC ref calls that typically have gone against us over the years not just in hoops but football as well (since he announces that too).

Saw some people question whether or not Garrity got that desperation heave off in time. They ran multiple replays of the shot, there is no doubt that he got the shot off in time and that the clock started as soon as the ball hit his hands on the inbound pass. If anything there should have been more than 0.7 seconds left on the clock for that final play, but it turns out it wasn’t needed.

Amazing home stand this weekend and suddenly the Hornets are back in the BSCT conversation. They need to keep at it and land some more wins to make this season mean something. If they bring that ferocity every game then I think they can make the post season. Pretty amazing since the Hornets looked dead in the water just a couple weeks ago.

I have attended every home game and a couple road games this year. Last night was definitely the greatest win as far as I can remember since Coach Katz has been here. Some might say Oregon State or Utah (both on the road) but for my money beating Weber is much bigger. I honestly thought we had a good shot at Weber before the game started but I also thought we would probably get jobbed at the end again. The team and coaches deserved that win. They have been progressing steadily all year. The front court has improved immensely changing what started as a weak point to a position where they are rebounding and scoring far better than any of us posters anticipated. We got 25 pts and 15 rebs from two true freshmen last night against a pretty strong front line. We held a small lead at the half without a single pt from
Garrity or Mills. In the second half Garrity picked up his offense and even though Mills still didn't score he definitely contributed on the boards and on defense. This team may have finally got over the psychological hump that has seemed to keep them from winning the close games against the Montanas and Webers. I am still optimistic about the remainder of the season but there is not any more room for error. I truly left the Nest proud to be a fan of this great group of young men. As far as Steve McElroy is concerned, he was still pretty upset over the jobbing we got at Northern Colorado. If any of you watched the UNC game, their announcers seemed to think that they should have been getting even more calls, even though they shot 19 more freebies than we did. BTW .... We rank in the top 7 in 15 out of 21 catagories for team stats....movin on up...

According to Deadspin:

".....But wait! The clock still has 0.9 seconds left. Sacramento State quickly inbounds the ball, and Dylan Garrity hurls a 75-foot shot to try and avoid a second overtime. As Weber State fans celebrate, Garrity's heave is good for the 78-75 win. The announcer's voice cracks as Sacramento State enacts the tiniest court-storming in recent history."

It was awesome until the camera panned the audience and it was six deep.

Still the best Hornet BB moment I have ever had. That shot is dreamed about by every kid who has picked up a BB.

I agree GCM and I guarantee when the Hornets go to practice today Dylan will go to the spot and try to heave up another one.

I forgot, SD, I think they brought in Dreon and Joey for defense on the last play. Joey has been used almost exclusively as a defensive substitute for the last 8 games and Dreon is able to stay with opponents 3pt shooters pretty well.

That’s good to know. When Berry rolled off the high screen Tresnak set I guess I thought the Hornets would have double teamed Berry since he was the only one making perimeter shots. Instead Quigley stayed with Tresnak and Berry had a 1-on-1 with McKinney and he sank the tying shot.

GCM as soon as that shot went in it looked as though staff went out and kept people from running onto the court. Isn’t the NCAA trying to eliminate the “rushing of the court” for safety reasons?

Who was the stocky man in the white short sleeve shirt, he seemed pretty pissed at something, Couldn't tell if he was security or a WSU person?
