Dec. 11, 2011 update on Scout:
Glendale Community College DE Jason Link visited Southeast Missouri State this weekend but has committed to Northern Colorado this evening. Link says, "I feel very happy with my decision. This weekend gave me a chance to think about everything and clear my head. It was great to see SEMO and get a whole other perspective at a different university. Utimatley, I just feel that UNC is the best fit for me. It will be nice to be closer to family."

Since the coach mentioned a commit back in November, and Link didn't commit until after he visited another school and confirmed UNC was right for him...

that means we have at least one other commit out there.

Still can't find it, and no confirmation it's Rebhun. Maybe Isaiah Hendrix from Denver East? There's that "East" connection going on ...

Northern Colorado Adds First Known In-State Commit

It's a premium story and I can't see the names. But since it's from the Colorado Prep Report, it has to be an instate Colorado high school player(s) who has committed.

Going out on a limb here, because I have no confirmation, but I think we have a commit from Michigan prep standout Shane Barron.
10009380-large.jpg

[If the commit proves true] what position he might play for the Bears is unknown, as he is very versatile. Barron is a unique athlete whose talents were used to the fullest extent possible. Barron almost never left the field, playing running back and receiver on offense, playing cornerback on defense and returning kicks.

The high school coaches descided Barron should play quarterback his senior year.

Here's some trivia for you:
Flint Carman-Ainsworth senior Shane Barron gathered 337 rushing yards on 23 carries in the Cavs' 43-20 win over Flushing on Friday night. His performance broke the school-record set by Terrance Robinson in 2000 and fell just two yards shy of the Big Nine record set by Chris Bartlett from Swartz Creek in 1984.

So, if I'm reading that correctly, Shane went to Coach Robinson's school and broke his record. :thumb:

Shane Barron is a 5-10, 170-pound Wide Receiver from Flint, MI. He is ranked No. 1945 in the country by 247Sports.

Barron is the No. 60 recruit in Michigan (MI) and is the No. 253 Wide Receiver in the nation.

Barron has a 247Sports rating of 71, making him a 2-star prospect.

He has 4 Offers: Central Michigan, UNC, Toledo, Western Michigan

BC football

Dogins played strong safety the last two seasons at BC after a standout high school career at Ridgeview.

Dogins, who's 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, ranked third at BC with 73 tackles last season and he scored two touchdowns on defense. He had one sack, five tackles for losses, four interceptions and broke up five passes.

OL Tyler Olker

High School: Richmond-Burton (Illinois) class of 2010

junior college: College of DuPage

R-B grad to play D-I football at N. ColoradoBy JOE STEVENSON – [email protected]
Created: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 11:50 p.m. CST
Tyler Olker was persistent in chasing his dream of playing NCAA Division I football.

When Olker received only preferred walk-on offers as a senior at Richmond-Burton two years ago, he opted for the junior college route. After two years at College of DuPage, Northern Colorado found Olker, albeit from some of his high school videos.

Olker was set to leave today for Greeley, Colo., where he will start classes in time to join the Bears for spring practices. Olker (6-foot-3, 295 pounds) will receive a scholarship and play some position on the offensive line; he played a year at guard and the past season at left tackle for the Chaparrals.

“Since Day One, I was always working toward this,” Olker said. “It shows that hard work pays off and my dream has come true. Coach [Earnest Collins Jr.] called me Monday and wanted to get me out there. I told him if they want me out there in January, I’m coming.”

Northern Colorado plays in the Big Sky Conference, a league of Football Championship Subdivision schools. The Bears were 0-11 this season, but Olker looks forward to the opportunity.

“They want me to come in there and make an impact and help turn the program around,” Olker said.

Yeah, not sure I like all the JC commits. I would rather not go there and offer more hs kids and let them develop. We haven't had any really good JC players with the exception of Doug Steele. None have really made a difference.

I don't want to go 0-11 ever again so although I agree JC's aren't the long term answer I think we all agree this team needs an infusion of talent that can get on the the field ASAP.

Yeah JC players are iffy, but those were the ones Downing recruited, and obviously the players he recruited weren't as good as we all thought. Lets see what Collins brings in, but I understand all the JC players as this team a ton of immediate needs and UNC can't afford to go 0-11 again next year.

Poster on Rivals Colorado Prep Report says we have two Valor Commits.Valor Christian won the Colorado 4A state championship this year. Both Isenberg and Miller were named to all-state teams at their positions.

Two Valor UNC commits- WR Stephen Miller and LB AJ Isenberg.

A.J. Isenburg
Ht/Wt:6'0"/205
Position: MLB/WR/TE
player_261.jpg

Early highlights, senior season:
http://youtu.be/KsWXoRsdWCY

Background: Valor Christian High School's A.J. Isenburg is a good linebacker, and is a player that just may be beginning to scratch the surface of his enormous potential. Isenburg is a fine athlete whom possesses excellent size and speed. He shows top range on the football field and is a highly physical player. He is also very intelligent and seems to recognize things quickly on the field. Even though Isenburg plays the middle line backer, he has the size and athletic ability to play any of the linebacker positions. A.J. Isenburg is a complete linebacker prospect, who should draw more than a few scouts to Valor Christian this fall. Honors: All-State, All Colorado, 4A Defensive Player of the Year.

Stephen Miller
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 180
Position: WR
Also offered by Temple.
He caught 30 passes for 613 yards and 3 TDs as a junior.

found this article on Dogins, mentions that he is a January enrollee.

I read somewhere that Leilon Willingham is already on campus, too.

Any other guys who will be here for spring?

At this point it's important for this program to balance winning now a well as developing kids. That makes jc recruits an important part of whatever plan this staff has. I am curious about red shirt possibilities, who is expected to produce now, and who they will develop.
As far as linemen go, I am a big fan of players who have the good feet as well as the size to play at this level. I think those are the guys that you bring along in the system. The biggest difference in the big sky linemen and the players who go to bigger schools isn't size, but feet.
