Big game tonight at the Stott. Dunno if we have a playoff spot locked up yet or not, but a win here definitely helps.

Yes, PSU does have a playoff spot locked down. If the Viks win tonight against Eastern they lock down 3rd place. Go Viks!

Eastern Washington (13-15) at Portland State (14-13) (ET)

GAME NOTES: With a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament now secured, the Eastern Washington Eagles can turn their attention to sizing up the Portland State Vikings on the road tonight at the Stott Center.

Eastern Washington is just 7-7 in conference play this season, but that's good enough to get the group into the postseason tournament. On Thursday night, the Eagles won for the second time in the last three outings with an 85-78 victory over Idaho State on the road.

As for the Vikings, they seem to have hit their stride in the last few weeks with four wins in five games, the lone loss coming out of conference last weekend against Idaho on the road. Two nights ago, the squad picked up a 94-88 win over Sacramento State, again on the road, in order to move to 8-6 in conference and third place in the league standings.

They needed overtime to do it, but in the first meeting of the season the Vikings captured a 78-76 win over EWU on the road. With the victory, PSU snapped a tie in the all-time series and now leads 19-18 over the Eagles.

One of four players to score in double figures for the Eagles last time out, Cliff Colimon turned in 21 points and pulled down six rebounds before picking up his fifth personal foul in the win over Idaho State. Parker Kelly tacked on 17 points, Laron Griffin 15 and seven boards and Jeffrey Forbes 13 points for the victors as they slipped by the Bengals even as the ly, the team as a whole i but at least they are giving themselves a fighting chance by holding the opposition to 61.8 ppg.

The first round has the 3 and 4 seeds hosting games against the 5 and 6 seeds. Seeds 1 and 2 get a 1st round bye. The remaining games are all hosted by the conference winner.

Oh, OK. I guess that since the Men's team was ineligible last season, I didn't know how everything was structured.

Dare I say this was the biggest crowd of the year?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that we wrapped up a home conference tourney game, but good gawd we continue to win ugly. We always seem to get to a point where we're up by 10 or so and just can't pull away. Up 10 with 8 minutes to go, and we let them right back in it. There were a lot of long rebounds in the second half that you really can't do a whole lot about, but regardless, we seemed to get killed on the boards late.

Some notes:

- Tapscot. Beast. Again. What can I say that hasn't been said before?

- Parker was great, double/double, but tired late with Nate on the bench after being fouled out. He was toast at the end, and I don't blame him. High minutes as of late.

- Nate. 5 fouls in 11 minutes. Ugh. Too many minutes placed on Parker due to this.

- Five shots for Harthun. Three questions on that. Why, why, and why? Open this guy up with screens, oh, wait, never mind, we're 28 games in. I suppose we'll not be doing that.

- Overall, good job on the boards tonight. Weak late, but overall, we got it done.

Let's pack the place next weekend.

Ugh, what was with the FT shooting last night? We missed a lot of foul shots and let the Eagles stay in it. Also, how many times did we come just short of having an "And 1" situation? It felt like a broken record when EWU got fouled and made the three-point play, but on the other end we just couldn't get the ball into the hoop on a foul.

Oh, and Renado Parker is a beast. But he gets worn down, which is why Cataldo is needed off the bench once in a while. Nate's night was forgettable at best.

Nice crowd last night. I was genuinely surprised that we got so many. However, I think part of it was due to all of the other athletes coming to celebrate the Dam Cup win, and they won't show up again. Kinda like Freshman Frenzy in football; they show up to one game, and then don't go again.

Now we just need to get a win on Senior Night and go into next Saturday on a roll.

Great point about Cataldo. It's easy to armchair coach, but just two or three minutes from him would have been two or three minutes more that Nate could have been in, meaning a breather for Parker.

If Parker's performance last night is any indication, we might have a go-to guy in the post next season. But that means that Cataldo will have to step up and provide solid back-up minutes.
