Been stew'in over this the past 24 hours. Yes, the Vike's played MUCH better against EWU, but there were still some big mistakes made...the high snap, broken coverages, etc...fortunately, EWU wasn't able to capitalize and shift the momentum. It's good that the guys could show that they're better than a powerhouse team like EWU, but there's still much work to be done this week. Drew & the receivers need to get in sync to reduce the overthrows, and miscommunications. Even though 44 for 73 is nice, there were easily another dozen or so "gimme's" that were lost.
Don't take this as raining on anyone's parade. I'm EXTREMELY proud of the team and the game they played Sat. Drew stepped up and showed what the R&G can do once our motor gets running. With a rough start this season, it would have been easy to let that get in their head and mess up the rest of the year, yet they put it behind, came out and played the game they've been capable of since day one...a great sign of the whole team's strength and committment. A big hat tip to the D who've been struggling with controlling the run, and stepped up to play a hard-hitting game against a power offense. Very nicely done.
But they need to put this win in the drawer, get back out this week, work hard and get ready for NAU. (Remember..."Perfect Practice Makes Perfect Play"...make every movement count this week...every step, every motion...condition yourself to move "Perfectly" and it will happen naturally in the game.)
Nice win, Vikes.
