EWU at WSU GDT

That was a gritty win. I have to admit, I didn't think we had any chance in that game starting a brand new QB and replacing the entire offensive line. Kudos to Coach Baldwin, the staff, and the players. Wow!

Honestly, I felt the same way. That was part of the reason I decided to not make the trip to Pullman, along with that town being a shitshow on gamedays. Regretting it now for sure.

While the Cougs definitely gave us some gifts, the refs did not, and Eagles came to fight. Hell of a first win for GG and the OL. Defense gave up a lot, but they made a lot of encouraging plays as well. On to the bi-sons! :thumb:

I'm completely blown away by the heart of this team to grab that win. How much does it suck to be WSU right now, losing the home opener to Big Sky teams in back to back years?

I'm always very surprised by the negative expectations folks on this board have when we are about to play a Pac-12 school. And I'm talking solid, intelligent posters/fans. Hopefully that changes soon. Great win against a really good team. Go Eags.

I didn't make a prediction on this one...seems like every time I do, we lose.

That said, all indications pointed to us getting waxed in this game. I think most would be surprised to see the way we controlled the game in the second half, despite the pick in the endzone that would have put us up 45-28, and the late TD by WSU.

I'll never count us completely out, but c'mon, 5 new starters on OL and first-time starter at QB with how improved WSU was last year, on top of the yearly defensive struggles? Today's performance was definitely at the upper-most end of expectations. :twocents:

Hate to say it, me too. If there is any indication this is an elite program, this is it. This team does not rebuild, it reloads. Wow!!!

Vegas had us a four TD dogs in this one. I always know we have a chance, but I really think WSU is a team on the rise, and they would be so aggressive compared to overlooking a BSC team like last year. Our players earned this win in every way. This was not an FBS team overlooking another FCS team. This was as high a quality win as I've ever seen. I personally think, if WSU can regroup mentally from this loss, they will contend for the Pac 12 crown this year.

Made a nice wad,,,,,got +28 overseas....vegas had it at 76.5 for over /under

“The best player on the field was Cooper Kupp,” admitted WSU coach Mike Leach, “and the second best was their quarterback who’s got a name I can’t pronounce.”

Takeaways:
  • Great intensity and focus throughout the game; huge improvement in all facets
Gabrud showed great poise and patience, overcame a late error with the pick in the endzone and made the throw to Kupp and run for daylight that sealed the deal.
    OL was better than expected.
Antoine Custer got his first touches in big time moment and scored early TD. Pure excitement to watch the celebration!
Shaq and Bourne were GREAT compliments to Kupp and Gabrud with several meaningful catches making it hard to key solely on Kupp.
DL was beastly with great effort and making plays against the run and pressuring the QB
Havili was AWESOME with a middle LB mentality and tenacious pursuit
Reverted to soft play after early slant to Marks went the distance in the defensive backfield, teams will take what we give them
    Great tackling throughout game
Looking for a leap in performance in the next game and the BAR is set high!
    AWESOME TEAM WIN!!!

Addendum: Mitch Fettig played lights out and the DB's had good coverage against some very talented WR's. Nothing but upside for this Defensive unit.

EWURanger,
I am with you. Sometimes it sounds like we have a bunch of "Johnny Comes Lately" In the years I have been following this Team, I sit up in the stands and listen to people who are there for the Eagles, and the negative things coming out of people mouth. I just sit and swallow what I would like to say to them. I had a friend who was a B-52 Pilot, he comes to all of the practices, he lives in Cheney. One day after a practice he came to me and said "see this team has a lot to learn". I calmly asked "why do you continue to come to the practices, and never have anything positive to say about the team, instead of the negative statements. He replied FU, I then lit into his old ass, forgetting of my age:). He still comes to the practices, but ignores me. Should he talk to me, I will reply, but will not sit and listen to anyone running down this Team. We have an Outstanding Coaching Staff, and very smart Players. W/O you think I am blowing smoke, I think we will defeat NDSU this weekend. Was nice seeing some of out Players getting their 1st College TD. BTW, I have been talking about Gage Gurub about his being the type QB, along with Reilley Hennessey, and Jordan West, any one of them can take this team all the way. Now Gurub has it all in his hands, it is his job to lose. I told most of the team before they left for WSU, my daughter Chris was 40 on Aug 31, my birthday is on Sept 9, and if they could come back with a Victory from WSU, would be the Greatest "Birthday Gift" for both of us. THE TEAM DELIVERED" Thanks Coaches and Team. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

Hi Vic;
It has been tough to keep my fingers off the keyboard this summer. Some so called fans on this board are so negative I wonder why they even post here. Opinions are great but know what you are talking about first. People who had never seen a practice making predictions about the team.
Well maybe now that the Eagles have made a statement the negative Neds will go away.
