EWU @ Fordham GDT

Sorry to dredge up an old forum... but this should be a pleasant memory at least. That was a good old fashioned ass whippin'!

I'm new to this board .... because I'm moving to the Tri-Cities in January, from Texas .... and I happen to be a Fordham alumn, booster, football fanatic. And retired, so this weekend I took the time to laugh through this entire discussion string! LOL... some things in FCS are the same all over
-Watching your team on streaming, internet, ESPN+, and Stadium is hell on earth.

-Several noted the Fordham announcers... that is a school tradition going back to Vin Scully. Their 50,000 watt FM station and major have churned out 20-30 major league broadcasters
-Whoever noted the police sirens in the background, "NYC feel" .... yup,
-I wasn't at the game... anyone hear how EWU fans traveled to NYC? I hope they were welcomed well by Fordham fans
-Sorry we didn't give you a game... program fell down when Joe Moorhead left for Penn State OC job, now in the first year as HC at Mississippi St
-We were on a roll when we scheduled EWU, and the upgraded competition would help our ranking and chance at an at-large bid (that was the idea at least)

-There was a good discussion about the Patriot League. The PL has kinda cratered the last 2-3 years. Only Colgate looks good this year. Fordham, Bucknell, Lehigh are down... Lafayette, Holy Cross, Georgetown have been down awhile.
-The PL has 4 big problems competing in FCS ... and the last one is effecting FCS all over. PL only allows 60 schols, we don't redshirt (the big problem in the playoffs, you guys are bigger and stronger), we have an academic index system (only a few of our schols can go to below level students, we need top students to offset them) .... the newest problem is what the Ivy League is doing. I explain it... but it is actually impacting all over.
-The PL and the Ivy League were competing for years for some of the same kids. If he was a scholly player, and good grades, he's going to the PL, or the CAA, because the football was better, and there was an athletic free ride. Now, with the enormous endowments at Ivies, they are throwing tuition grants at kids aggressively AND having 100 kids getting this money. Unbelievable ... 20 more scholarships in effect than FBS. I know for a fact that FBS level talent from Texas is saying yes to places like Harvard, Yale, Princeton rather than play for Toledo, Bowling Green or Fordham. Smart kids saying... "I'm not playing in the NFL, I might as well walk out of school with a kick-ass diploma and bigger earning power". It doesn't hurt Nick Saban, but it is hurting the CAA, PL .... and you are probably leaking a few players as well.

Does anyone know if EWU and Fordham agreed to a home and home over some length of time? I haven't on my end. I bet you'd like us in the early season :D

Sorry for the long note.... congratulations on another strong season, and I hope I meet some of you at a game down the road... like January 5th in Frisco TX at the title game. I've gone to that and I'm damn sick of seeing 3/4 of that stadium filled with ugly yellow parkas from North Dakota. Spare me that! Go EWU

Welcome, Scott! I think you made a bunch of friends on this board with your last comment.

Just my luck .... EWU is going to Frisco a week after I move to Richland WA, from Dallas/Fort Worth. And I had promised to wear red in that sea of sickly yellow at the FCS Championship if EWU makes it.

Maybe I brought you good mojo! Best wishes on Jan 5th. I'll be watching from the Tri-cities. Frisco is a great place to see a game. I recommend the trip.

I hope I'm at the first home game to see the FCS Championship flag get hoisted up.
