Pretty sure I caught it at work. Students tend to be petri dishes for diseases.

I'm on the downhill coast now. Every day I get a little better. Now its just a vacation at home.

EOS glad you're feeling better. Four of us here at home all got it. Three felt real sick while I was asymptomatic (but was positive).

Sorry to hear about the Covid infections... I've literally kept my life the exact same (travelling, hotels, etc) with the only limitation being I haven't been on planes much for the last year. I am actually quite shocked I haven't been diagnosed with Covid, although I think I may have had it early on and just been asymptomatic.

Back to football, I'd rather win ugly than lose while playing well, but Eastern was *really* poor yesterday. Our defense looked like the improvement we saw over the first couple weeks must've been because Idaho and NAU are miserable on offense. Idaho State had a good QB and he murdered us.

A couple of observations... I hate the RPO. I feel like the concepts are confusing our offense and they aren't making goods reads. For the RPO to work, there needs to be a threat of running the ball, and we just don't do it. There were times- especially late in the first half- where ISU was just showing dimes to us and we wouldn't run into despite it being the obvious read. And when we did run, we used Merritt, and he struggled to find gaps. Pierce should be our load horse, and he gets good yardage per carry every game. I don't know what he needs to do to get more carries, because we didn't even give him a single carry in the second half. It feels like we settle into using him exclusively as a blocking back. Give this kid 15-20 carries a game and he'll get you 100+ yards behind an OL that's playing pretty well.

Defensively, holy shit, did we look bad. The D rose up and played well in crunch time, but most of the game was downright shocking. The spaces between the linebackers and the DBs is just too damn much. There's like a full acre of open space in the zone and ISU kept throwing into it. It's almost as if we want 6 guys stuck in tight and then the other 5 guys so far back that we go from having three layers of defense to only two. It's just too much damn space.

As for the game itself, let's be frank... we should beat Idaho State by 4 TDs minimum every time. We're recruiting on a level much higher than them. We beat them by 43 points last year in the same building. Our talent level alone should put us head and shoulders above them. But, for whatever reason, their overlooked receivers made our DBs look highly dubious. And, by the way, it's really helpful when your receivers can catch balls in traffic, which they did all game long.

Agree with you Dopa.
I get why they want EB to stay in the pocket but man there was so much running room for him. I wonder if it is a precautionary thing for potential injury...saving it for playoffs or for next season...either way...tough to watch and not scream...RUN THE BALL EB.

Funny, my wife and I were reliving the SUU game we attended he started a few years ago, when he took off and made the entire defense look slow. Those were the days :-) Glad for one of the ugliest win's ever and EB3's accuracy late in the game. A loss may have ended this season and next..

The big piece of that puzzle is Eastern switching to an RPO-based scheme from a zone read scheme. This is why I put in my comments that I don't like the RPO. We've got a highly mobile QB and we never let him work the edge. There were so many games in 2018 where he just watched the DE flow outside and took off for a massive gain. I don't understand why we moved away from it, because it was ruthlessly effective. It's also an easier scheme for the offense to make reads.

Barriere played very well on Saturday, so credit to him is due. But we could make more of his talents than just having him drop back and throw 50+ passes. While we've scored plenty of points in the last two games, we also had a lot of inconsistency. Plus, we've got a bunch of receivers that have had a case of the dropsies, and being able to run the ball would certainly lower our risk and keep us moving the ball.
