EWU @ MSU Game Day Thread

I would like to be more confident in my team whooping the Eagles ass, but here's reality, I'd put the Eags chances way better than most are thinking and here's why:

MSU's Defense is beat the fuck up we are down linebackers, safeties and D lineman which Idaho took for advantage of and ran ball control offense we could not stop 3-4 yard runs because we never played the run or spied McCoy. We sat in mostly a cover 2 and 3 Zone defenses, The Eags should take full advantage of any 4th short and run the ball because no one will be covering the HB and it will be up to the front 4 to stop the run. If the Eags can control the clock MSU will be in trouble.

We seem to have the same issues especially in the secondary. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see MSU throw the ball a lot more than usual.

God I hope not, the stadium may riot. I wanna see a power run game for a least the first quarter.

The 117th rushing defense against the 2nd rushing offense in the FCS? Its going to be bad, its going to be very, very bad.

The best we can hope for is a high scoring game.

Just wondering why you think a shootout favors Eastern? I guess it's possible but I doubt we throw the ball much in an attempt to try to keep our defense off the field as much as possible.

Well for one I don't think it favors Eastern, I think its the best chance Eastern has to not get embarrassed. For two, I don't think Eastern beats Montana State at its own game. Not really how the offense is built. Eastern could try to copy Idaho but it isn't Idaho. I'm sure the defense will keep themselves off the field.

I assume you meant to say "the defense keeps itself on the field?" I'd love to say your comment is right, but I have a great fear this is one of those games where Montana State puts together a lot of 10+ play drives. Montana State plays like NDSU... they'll be content to blast us with 4-6 yard runs all the way down the field. Those types of teams always cause us enormous problems. I didn't think Portland State was good at all, but they were so committed to running the ball, and we just can't stop teams on the ground.

The concern I have with Eastern darn near every year is we just aren't physical enough to compete with teams that just line up and smash us. We always seem to do OK with teams that want to out-talent us, but we can't get over the hump against teams that play murderball. Montana State is built to do the latter. We'll need to play our best game to have a shot in this one.

Last game our offense almost gave Cal Poly more points that Cal Polys offense scored.. That means our D played good ...don't care who we played. I think this game is the highlight of the year, we win this one and players have something to hang our helmet on. We will give them a game until our depth is exposed and still a chance the backups at this point play hard and we will be in this game at the end.

Good thread, lively discussion.

Gotta say I loved Bobcat's take that MSU can be out coached... Huge belly laughs on that one. Talent? Eastern has more than enough talent to compete except where it counts... coaching staff. I will say when they go against the Aaron typical play calling, this has been a fun team to watch and the effort has been good from players. But games like ISU and PSU outweigh any good...

I suppose if Eastern gets enough TO's today anything can happen. Which team shows up today? Can't say. Hope to see lots of penetration from the defense and many TFL's and lots of running from the Eag offense (RB's should be rested and ready to carry a load) and if Visperas can hit enough plays to keep the defense guessing, should be a fun one. Special teams should be a concern.

Oh, just wait my man. I guarantee at some point in the game today you'll say to yourself, "WTF are they(bobcats) doing?". Just wait.
