Can our defense slow them down? I'm confident our offense will score but can the D slow them down enough to keep us in the game?

They lost their quarterback, right? That could help. I think we'll win by 10.

I think I'm making the drive up there for this one. Anyone else planning on attending? Lubbock is beautiful that time of year...

How does film exchange work? Will our coaches get film from last year? Would that have been part of the contract negotiations?
Yes, I can not wait to get to beautiful Lubbock. Fly in Friday afternoon, out Sunday

Generally, coaches just send all their video to the other team. Otherwise, the opponent has the right to request any video they want and I think the NCAA has a time limit on how quickly the video must be handed to the opposing team. Most coaches just send them without asking en masse to get it over with.

Texas Tech will score points. They'll throw the ball a bazillion times and most of their rushes will be draws. No surprise there. Much like WSU, this plays into our defense a little better and a zone read/ spread option type of team.

Given Texas Tech's talent, it's an uphill battle and they'll be deserved favorites by a healthy margin. But we've beaten better teams before.

We're doing a fall road trip which includes games in Lubbock and New York, possibly another heading home. IMO limiting Gabe's "running-scrambling" ability the latter part of the '16 season caught up with the Eags against Youngstown. Certainly his run threat should open up receivers on passing plays and is preferable to a sack or forced pass. EKOF should produce an exciting 2017 season that ends in Frisco. Go Eags!

We lost to Youngstown St because the defense allowed them to drive the length of the field in the last two minutes :ohno:

You are correct Clawman, but I also recall the Eagles failure to move the ball in the second half which resulted in successful drives and scoring opportunities by Youngstown.

I would also remind you, 60s, Eags would have scored an additional touchdown and likely put the game out of reach if not for an interception in the end zone that should have been PI against Shaq. Horrible non call that gets me every time i see the replay.

We are flying to Lubbock Friday, coming back Sunday. I'd like to think we will start AND end in Texas this season!! Really looking forward to this game; offense heavy, but our defense will be in a different place compared to last year. They are hungry and more experienced. Gage, will be Gage and the rest of the offense will continue the high-energy style. I say we win by 10+!! Go Eags!

Flying into DFW Thursday morning, spending the night there checking the city out. Then will be driving to Lubbock and staying there Friday-Sunday. Definitely would like to meet some of you guys, Scotty will you be making it down there?

"Only one Tech player had more than one sack last season, that being Kris Williams, who was a senior."

I hope this remains true in 2017, the first game anyway!

TT's defense is small, quick and horrible. OL should actually dominate, GG's ability to move will keep plays alive against the blitzing TT will do and our Defensive backfield is better and deeper than ever. Outside of the fact it will be 100 degree's in the shade, Eag's have a good chance to be victorious.

All this, the defense let us down against YSU is BS... Coaching let us down, on both sides of the ball. Believe the defensive coaching should be much improved after being together several season's and the wildcard is on offense. The OK St kid should keep us lighting it up, but a tough schedule isn't going to do him any favors... TT, NDSU, Fordham, Montana... ouch. Not looking for any run quota type stuff, but with our OL, we might be able to grind out a couple of victories early..

Lot's of leaders on Defense, besides GG, who steps up on Offense?

Not questioning your statement LITO; I'm new to the BLOG, and appreciate all the great current and past information and EAG emotion immensely. Could you share a hint or two as to how our coaching let the team down against YSU? Thank you.

It's become a tradition for us to attend the season opening road game ever since the National Championship. The Eagles are 3 and 3 in those games, not incidentally! So, we've got our tickets for Lubbock, and will be there!

The wife and I cannot make up our minds as to whether we want to make it to the UM, Fordham, or TT game. I feel most partial to attending the TT game because I love seeing the faces of fans who expected an easy W after FBS vs EWU games. However, the UM games are always such a good time. Everytime I ask about Lubbock, I am told that the city is in the middle of nowhere and is nothing special. NY or Missoula (all of that craft beer :D ) just sound so appealing. I will keep you updated though.

EWU takes the W with 10pts+. TTU fans will demand the head coaches head on a pike but then continue on with a successful season against good FBS teams. I've seen this episode plenty of times before.

Well on a semi humorous note, there are a billion TT fans in this area and none of them has a clue about what kind of team they have this season except.... "they're gonna be good". When asked anything specific... "they're gonna be good". When asked how they will replace Mahomes or the state of their defense (dead last in FBS last season) or patchwork OL... "they're gonna be good". OK, I have yet to find a knowledgeable fan, but they are passionate.

On the funny side, one TT grad did tell me that the air raid offense would probably be difficult for our defense to stop. I asked if Mike Leach ran an air raid, they agreed he did and pretty boy Kingsbury learned it from him. When I pointed out we beat WSU last year, they didn't know that's where Leach was coaching... Once informed, they admitted we've seen the air raid and would not be able to cover their athlete's... wait for it... "they're gonna be good". Anyway, this is a microcosm of Texas as I have found it.

So, TT fans aren't even considering this game and fantasizing about being 7-0 facing Oklahoma. (some are anyway)

If this was strictly fan v. fan, I think EWU wins by 80 points.

Lubbock is approx 3200 ft of elevation, the campus should be nice per most people, it is in the middle of no where and a Highway 2 type two lane drive from Dallas, so give it 6 hours. Game is at 3 pm central. Temp's are usually in the mid 80's in september and it has been a temperate summer thus far.

Greetings all,

Tech fan checking in. To the poster above, it appears you spoke with an incredibly uninformed Tech fan. The consensus among most fans is 5-win team and a December coaching search. Vegas agrees and apparently has our win total in the 5 - 5.5 range.

We're just not very good. Serious concerns on the O-line, and our running game should be nonexistent. We couldn't run the ball last year with the best mobile QB in the air raid era. While there is some optimism on defense (optimism is relative--for us, it's fielding a top 75 defense), most Tech fans are not buying in to the hype. We have a former walk-on that no one on scholarship can beat out at one safety spot, a grad transfer from Washington is apparently backing him up, no pass rushers, many juco transfers in the secondary expected to play. You guys will score in bunches.

I saw EWU play in Lubbock in 08. That was a once-in-a-generation Tech team, and you guys gave us fits. I think it was a two possession game in the 4th quarter. Anyways, much respect to your program. I cannot stand Mike Leach, and it was awesome seeing you guys whip him a few years ago.
